on the same day as pixel remaster final fantasy vi and the osts so far are phenomenal!
I'm just looking at the anime. that choir piece when vanitas saves that girl is really nice, there was some really good male choir in the middle. cmon early releasee.
i forgot how the cello+piano melody during that cafe scene is so good too :(
Samples if you can't wait. Don't listen to the last 4 tracks if you don't want to get spoiled on new stuff. Granted only two of them are still unused. :p
Samples make it seem like some SFX tracks are indeed standalone SFX tracks, rather than parts of other BGMs...
001c is one track and the version they played in 2nd cour is a separate one.
016 seems to be one long track after all? After the drama CD, I really thought the acoustic and untzuntz versions would be separate.
I'm glad "a fang of the Queen" is that track, since it's longer than "she sings", but I'm pretty sure it's mostly the intro that will be longer than in my rips rather than the main part. I remember editing the intro pretty hard. ;) well f me right up, the intro doesn't take half the sample - good job editing me lol. unlike what I had it jumps straight to vocal but I expected that, I just couldn't make it sound right.
While I do like some titles, there's also quite a few track/title combinations that I don't like.
Listening and so far i can say I LOVE all the violin / accordion tracks!! <3
making a search got surprisingly misterious after a while. a young noble: same comment as in speech of madman. Crimson Gauntlet: So good <3 but i'd prefer the beats to be toned down a bit they cover the violin ... Fangs of Queen does remind of Duran Shoukan / Mezame in style which is good i think.
my lost friend is so good, first proper violin solo in ages trapped in the past is also really emotional somehow. Seems like Kajiura really got into the characters this time. le chasseur > The transition from e.guitar to harpsicord was really awkard :( the guitar solo kinda uninspired too. Other than that really good track :)
romantic battle > Ah so good! Cant even describe how much i like it. Great combo of accordion flute acc gutar and percussion speech of madman: love the harmonies between the strings. young hunter > Astolfo theme ?! Was kinda chaotic, but understandable. tale of the beast > WTF ? 2:36 wasted on SFX! Come on Kajiura =_= Having 0:25 and looping it on the anime would make no difference. the automatons: Surprised that it actually has a melody carried by the harp/musicbox. the alteration device: Why so much musicbox ? Its killing the hype =_= and makes me think the organ is sampled or something. we can still go together: Also lovely violin solo
I refreain to listen to the last 4 tracks until they re used in the anime, but i do like the Hanae one from the little bit that played.
After Fena's also excellent soundtrack i can safely say that Kajiura was somehow restricted before she gets out of spacecraft, and she was finally able to compose the way we all knew she could ^_^ (if we except that boring SAO Progressive soundtrack)
Also wtf is 'here comes the parade' inspired from ?" is that supposed to be a lattern box ?
HnA has the page up if you use the search engine but for now the file is forum-only -_-
the legend of the blue eyes: really nice melody and arrangement.
Paris, the city of light: like it the flow of the strings. even though it says light, the melody is dark xD hehe
happy moment: happy:) like it.
city of flowers: very nice chamber music. destiny waltz: ok so..... unbelievable. the first strings half is ruined by the stupid accordion notes. it's like a chicken going bawk bawk bawk. super distracting. NOOOO!!!!! thankfully it's short. I also don't appreciate the silence before the strings. eh. still a very unique track and lovely waltz melody. inverse operation: like Hanae, beats, chimes, strings. wow this track is epic. and so strange.... those sounds like something cracking or woodpecker pecking ? ? ? I also like the choir in this. which is rare nowadays. SAO much near the end Kajiura eh ??? thankfully it's saved by male choir (though it's short and barely heard...). that heartbeat in the end is strange too. but overall I really like it. I was moved!: so fun. repetitive but really fun. I will save you without fail: yes of course I love this too. making a search: so fun!! the transition is impeccable. crimson gauntlet: eh the violin gets me goinggg. Hanae is also very welcome. he met her and she met him: lovely so lovely !!! violin+accordion+beats work so well. lolz@title. Is this love: yup love this one also. that cello interlude and then guitar, so good.
she sings: ah yuck. whateevr.
she is a noble lady: boring but soothing category. Beethoven Alle Menschen.... anyone ?
a fang of the queen: see I don't like this at all. hanae's parts are chaotic, cacophonic, no harmony at all, overall not a pleasant experience. not to mention that sampled thing. oeghk. a nobleman and darkness: quite like it. sounds super Baroque. the covenant of blood: love this one. the violin is so melodramatic, the melody just flows and the baroqueness is just spot on. violin+cello duo work so well.
I am Vanitas: no. not like the choir. samey samey. organ comes out of nowhere. other parts ok.
my lost friend: a bit repetitive but ok, (are those hand claps or shoe tapping?) la chasseur: I like the transitions. Hanae's part is not so bad either (especially the second half). romantic battle: everything about this track is perfect. not a single split second is wrong. the transitions are superb. the cello, the beats, electronica in the middle.... a speech of madman: nice!
young hunter: ok, but a bit repetitive.
she is our Queen: igk. yuck no. random aaaaaaahhhhh then the screechy queeny noise. no.
a faithful man: would have been a better track if the second half developed somewhat differently. good bgm tho. 53 (hanae track): I really like this one, bringing in the waltz leitmotif really nicely. especially Hanae's second half is really nice. gears of destiny: almost thinking it's going to be sfx/randomness but thennn waltz time. love this one too of course:)
sfx/randomness:
symptom of something wrong, and who are you, trapped in the past, tale of the beast (uh... too long.), automatons (uh... wth), never let anyone steal your name, curse-bearer.
boring but calm/soothing:
there were calm days, the ducal family, sunlight and your solitude, we can still go together, if the time comes I'll kill you, when we three were together, I met him and he met me (lolz@title), another peaceful day, a young noble, let's go on a date, at the ball. what my master said.
boring:
51(spoiler hanae track), alteration device, we can't choose how we live, a snake in the grass, paris city of darkness (tho as bgm could work well), look here comes the parade. our story begins (can't stand the synth brass beginning, if you use synth, at least use it in the middle yuck)
It's not taking anything's place on these CDs (and the OST seems complete) so whatever.
@wat11 I'm perplexed you think fang of the Queen is chaotic (I find it super simple?) but not 53.
I thought 53 was "too much crammed into a track". Have fight to the finish untzuntz, accordion, have some guitar, have cello, have vocal, take them in all configurations and not really harmonizing with anything.
At least that's at first listen. I'll probably end up loving it in a few listens. ;-P
If I don't have any issues with customs, I'll hopefully have the CD tomorrow or Thursday at latest. For ze credits.
Also hoping the hirez goes up for purchase on my shop at midnight. I can't use ototoy. :|
@grunty Hanae's parts sound dissonant to me. ? they don't flow in my ears, al litaaa santi di taa.. I dunno they don't harmonize well in my ears lol. also I have a strong dislike of the sampled vocal :(
imo 53 uses the leitmotif (the waltz) really well Hanae's parts are definitely not dissonant. maybe I should use dissonant instead of chaotic to be more accurate :p in 53 the middle part definitely has more accordion than needed too I thought yes.
this OST is so Kajiura. some mediocre tracks, some sfx, some great tracks, a few excellent masterpiece tracks. Fena >>> Vanitas for sure for me as an OST. but still I enjoyed it a lot.
Iunno, we're gonna just have to disagree on a fang of the Queen. ^_^ (Except that sampled vocal which simply should not be there.)
But I also think Fena was more enjoyable as a whole (and possibly sounded more pleasant on the mixing/mastering front but I'mma wait for notBili with stating that ;p) but when this OST hits, it absolutely hits and/or slaps hard. Very happy with it.
^ I think I actually find myself alone when it comes to recent Hanae tracks. I tend to dislike them but they are usually popular in the forum. I think of tracks like Mezame and my mind immediately compares everything to that. sorry xD
as much as I like this OST, I think I will go easy on my wallet this time xD
I also may review my review when we get the hires stuff. especially I want to hear inverse operation. that male choir part was really quite something, albeit short.
For me so far Vanitas has higher highs but lower lows than Fena which was pretty even in quality.
I think Fena at the very least had a more refined feel to it. The arrangements felt cleaner and the mixing wasn’t quite as messy, barring Helena’s track.
I also think Vanitas could have used more diversity in its instrumentation. The violin and flute are beautiful instruments but they were just way overused here.
^ there was barely any flute if you except those flerty tracks. Also violin is a must for vampire/devil-themed anime soundtracks for some reason. Just look at Tsukihime and Highschool DxD osts for comparison
I heard soundtrack yesterday and for me, it gives me some good vibes in a few tracks somehow Yuki try to resemble the Pandora music style here..like crimson gauntlet feels bloody rabbit in some part, but I am trying to download the Ost from HnA but unable to ..and it showing some reached limit of the forum..so it will be very kind if anyone updates me a link to download OST...
