Sword Art Online Movie "Ordinal Scale" (YK on music)

Lmao it's indeed to the beginning v2029292 so typical Kajiura anisong some of the melody lines are exactly the same as ttb....

But dare I say I'm liking it more than One Light, blaze, believe, and ring your bell aka the Kalashitanisongs. It at least has Kajiura flavor and I like the Kajiurago part, not as bland and generic as the loathsome One Light and blaze.

Hue, the beginning and end are ttb2.

The kajiurago doesn't sound like Remi. Sounds like Sayaka and maybe someone else.

how absolutely... AWFUL. hahah how laughably bad. not just the character song but also the rest.

I think hear Wakana? but maybe someone else too.

I know Kajiura doesn't care at all about these shows despite what she might have said earlier. However, the songs are copycats of each other. Any self-respecting composer would be opposed to that despite lack of emotional commitment. THE SONGS ARE ALMOST THE SAME NOTE BY NOTE. Beginning and end is ttb2 and the middle is some other song.

Something's up with her or she thinks she can get away with it. ah it's really heartbreaking.

Sounds like only Kajiura singing in the intro? Second part has Yuna.
Btw. The first insert song doesn't sound like Kajiura so maybe not all insert songs were composed by her.

The first could be from one of the other character song collections. The ones sung by Yuna should have Kajiura involvement

I know, this is where i got the music samples from the other time (it was a bigger video that that)

Btw there are worst shows than sao around, but yes the scenes in the movie were nothing out of the ordinary, i just hope that ttb 2 song doesnt end up being the movie's main theme or something lol

She could get away with the shizuka na yoru ni- like song, but ttb ? Seriously ? Its only 2 years old and kalafina perform it on every single live and dvd/bd they release. =_= this is an insult to our intelligence and memory. About the chorus i think its Wakana or Hanae

I noticed this series has a lot of incidental background music. I remember there being a couple of unreleased tracks that played in bars or cafés, and now there's the little jingle playing during the talk show.

Even though the character song is super derivative of ttb, I still enjoyed it. It has a lot more energy than her recent anisons, and it worked pretty well with the battle scene.

Yes there are alot of musics like that in this show (around 8 by now) and its a pitty that they arent getting released because some are worthy i think.

A bland and generic song for a show that has bland and generic as it's strongest element and selling point.

And nobody was surprised.

Wow the character song at the end.... I know songs like Believe and HB took flack for being too similar to TTB, but at least they didn't directly take melodies from it :wai:

Seriously, the kajiuriago and violin solo at the beginning are literally note for note! The rest of the song seems to be taken straight from The Relief (pandora hearts), too, so not much originally there either.

Kajiura stop being lazy :touched:

lol that was adorable :P I'm not really looking forward to the Character songs, in my opinion, are rarely the quality of say.. OPs or EDs anyways. I don't really care to much. The insert songs were similar to other SAOs, but its still SAO so I guess it has to have a similar sound? I'll wait for the full soundtrack to fully judge. I only really watch SAO for the music anyways

Also... to the beginning -2.0?? What the hell?

In Kajiura's case the past character songs were oftenly great quality and better than OP and EDs to name a few:

Fields of Hope, Seijaku wa headphone no naka, shoot!, Mizu no Akashi , Shinkai no kodoku, Himitsu, Aime Moi (or whatever is its name), Lullaby, Yume no Tsubasa, Tsuki no Shima, storm, its only the fairytale, Hoshi ga kanaderu monogatar, there were all more or less gems,

so i really dont know what's up with her recent laziness of making new songs. Its not just Sao, even in Kalafina b-sides we get recycled melodies. And now you cant even say that she is too busy, we havent had true new release for a year, and the only thing she has been working recently was that Chinese movie and Zaregoto, for which we learn that there are only 28 tracks and that she struggled to compose them. Just compare that to the amount of work she did in 2004-2005 with very limited recycling and many memorable melodies on almost every track she composed back then, ost or song. https://canta-per-me.net/discography/2003-2004/ https://canta-per-me.net/discography/2005-2006/

Everything post - knk has similar style more or less, while prior to it she was making unique feel to each work or song to the point that you could hear a song and say " oh this is from tsubasa/ noir etc"

:rain:

Kajiura has gotten to the point of her career where "i already have devoted fans they'll buy whatever i make" -- which is a fact in Kalafina case and "as long as i keep on working on these shitty but popular shows money will continue to come to my pocket"

I mean she's already 51, maybe she just wants to live the comfortable life :p

Anyway yes the song has some exact same notes but I honest to god don't hate it...maybe i'm just weird or don't have any expectation left from Kajiura

Off to listening to Madlax and KnK soundtrack I go. And @george1234 these past few days i've been listening to Gundam seed/destiny character and/or insert songs and I agree that they're brilliant even though mostly kinda similar. Houko Kuwashima <3

^ 51 isnt that much, in greece the retirement age where you get pension now is 65 and will soon be 67
knowing japan's aging population their limit should be rising as well. Also compared to other japanese artists her fanbase isnt thaat big, and her rare works on TV anime now havent increased it that much (with the exception of madoka), so far i havent heard of someone that discovered her from SAO or Bokumachi

There's a saying that composers starts their careers trying to establish their unique style, and then spend the rest of their careers running from it. I think that's what Kajiura's going through right now tbh.

I don't think Kajiura is cynical enough to recycle songs just because she can; but if that's the case, I hope that concert cancellation lit a fire under her.

Although, I don't know why anyone would be surprised that this movie has a mediocre soundtrack. Her work on Sao has always been just barely above average.

I think her work on SAO is below average for her, aside from Swordland and a couple other songs. I've found most of it has parts that are lazily strung together. I hope that this soundtrack is better but it doesn't seem to be so far.

^Yeah, going by Kajiura's discography, SAO is really bad; but as far as other anime soundtracks re concerned, it's good enough to be a solid/serviceable ost.

For me her less good ost is elemental gerad, where if you except the vocal tracks and 2-3 bgms the rest is pretty forgetable. Sao still has some catchy tunes no matter how much you say its not good

And also @sora if you scroll through youtube comments of Kajiura's music (soundtracks) quite a lot of people know her from SAO, Madoka, and F/Z and think that those soundtracks are some of her best while most of us here, who've followed Kajiura's career quite religiously would disagree.

It's actually amusing when i see people saying "this sounds so similar to madoka/zero/sao" when i listen/watch KnK and pandora hearts music video and go as far as accusing her of copying even though they're all her works and it's the other way around.

[Oot]
What amuse me the most is when I see a comment saying "wow i guess Kalafina stepped up their game" on oblivious AMV because it's the other way around too, how far Kalafina has fallen from their debut days glory. Sorry I can't keep myself.
