I just want to say i have also recorded the nico broadcast (whole) with a view annoying parts where nico premioum account teasers were poping which I cut. I will upload when Im done cutting it :)

I only saw the part of the premium member only talk thing where they sung La La La Love song acapella style and … KEIKO SENPAI. She was so cute haha "because I sang Wakana's part!" Very gorgeous singing from the girls.

listen here:

11,800 copies only!! for the first day
Unexpected sales just like one light >_<

And... One Light has 11 708 sold copies in the first week not in the first day. If FOW will be bought in 5 ooo copies every day in this week = it will be 30 000 in the first week! and FOW will be the best selling album of Kalafina in the week of release. So score 11 800 in the first day is a really great result!

Love the performance. Gogatsu & FOW were beautiful . Hikaru's little dance sort of thing in FOW's 1st chorus was really cute. Now I really can't wait for my copy to arrive, and the inevitable special final for the live tour.

AE and Consolation did around 20k on the first week. If it doesn't grow to hit that 20k mark (after all that marketing too), I blame the fsn songs + one light. The sooner they move away from that song base the better. There's too many of them consecutively. It is likely hurting their public image (everything sounds the same accusations). Heavenly blue is, much to some people's dismay, actually very very popular but the inclusion in the best album, which sold really well, probably means that it won't add to the album's appeal. As for whether Gin no Niwa deserved that spot more, it's hard to say since it has the same problem (alr in best album).

Popularity wise, HB doesn't necessarily lose out to Gin no Niwa. HB is gold certified digitally. Whatever sales difference it had in physical, it made up for in digital sales. Physical HB sales hit 18k overall despite it being 1. a single with no b-sides and 2. included in the BEST BLUE album which was released before the single. Gin no Niwa probably hit the 100k mark with combined phy (60k) + digital but we'll never know. We do know that HB did at least 118k combined (gold certification + phy). So HB is still one of their more popular entries. That they decided to do a PV for it out of the blue (pun not intended) says a lot about its unexpected popularity too.

On another note, Keiko said during the nico live "just one copy will do". This was in response to some comments stating that they were going to buy several more copies. Wakana then goes on to say that what is important is that you listen to their music. So money doesn't motivate them. What motivates them is that you listen to their music. It was evident in the Kalafina Kadokawa book too. Keiko wants to be able to touch people's hearts with her music. That said, every artist will need sales to survive. Sony isn't going to let them go on if they don't make money.

Kalafina is well loved by its fans. This much was obvious from every live I went to. You don't get that kind of applause otherwise.

ahhh omg they sound AMAZING! I'm so glad Hikaru is back to normal. I'm so excited for live dvds!
Also THAT ACCAPELLA :nosebleed::nosebleed::nosebleed::imdead::imdead::imdead:. I saw someone request all the accapellas they've done on Kalafina Club and I was going to request them later too! Just...My mind is blown. If there's nothing I love more than acoustics and lives it's accapellas.
Thank you for uploading these everyone :chuu:

All I've seen is a few snippets of them talking at that A cappella, but it was beautiful.

I totally agree, and I hope it sells good on the next few days. We all know that the girls don't get that much from sales, but as you said Sony won't support them if their sales decreased. Who should be blamed (Sony, Kajiura-san, or the girls)? tbh I don't know. It maybe because they released a lot works in short period?, but isn't that normal for Kalafina since they do an anisong every one or two anime season.

Thanks for this write up. I always wonder about the group's popularity over in Japan. It's surprising to hear that HB did so well.
That being said, I do feel like this new found popularity has put Kajiura in an unfortunate position.

In the beginning, Kajiura wrote very niche songs for the girls-songs that she had wanted to write but would never have been able to sell to a mainstream audience; however, with their new popularity, I get the feeling Kajiura is now writing music for the fans instead herself.

Maybe Kalafina fans in Japan like the more anison approach to their songs. In FotW, there's not a single song that has a completely different structure from the verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus structure.

It really is their most "anison" album thus far - most songs from beginning until the end of first chorus are about 1:30 - the same timing for an anime OP or ED.

I like the songs, but I'm just not wowed yet (Usumurasaki is close, though).

I finally watched it and IT WAS THAT GOOD. I loved Hikaru's faces, and Keiko was so happy... The three were so good here. Can't wait for a dvd release of a full concert or something. ANYTHING.
So good.

Except for Seventh Heaven... but I think you (Kirito) were saying that anyways.)

Also I want to watch the live so bad but I also want sleep. I will watch tomorrow though. I did however watch the Blu-ray on the FotW album. It's amazing! I mean, I don't really enjoy HB all that much, but the PV is kind of fun. I just wish they would have put in more of a flowing light pattern (like in believe maybe?) instead of the strobe lights. Far on the water's PV is stunning. I love this song, it makes me happy just singing it. I love that each of them smiled at different points singing it in the PV and were really enjoying themselves. It did look like an actual beach, but maybe they focused it after filming? I know that's done a lot (like in Pushing Daisies, to make something pop or stand out). But I was waiting to see them on top of a tower when they showed them in the city. They seemed up high, so I was just waiting for it. heh Love it.

Budokan performances:
ring your bell: Absolutely amazing. This was a fairly new song at the time, so I give them so much credit and Hikaru sounded really good here. They all did in fact. Wakana nailed everything. Keiko was awesome. I like that look of pure joy that comes over their faces when they sing something so well and know it, like they did here. I can't imagine what it must have been like to be there (like Hatou was *sigh* So jealous right now.) and see that joy.

far on the water: Wow. Simply incredible. This was a completely new song, and they rocked it! Wakana was maybe a little shaky, but I like it when the one not singing will kind of mouth the words, like Hikaru was doing in this. It's truly amazing and with the small string orchestra. And Rie! Her dancing made me smile as well. Like she wanted to start singing too but then thought "no, I have to play!" lol They are just amazing. I will watch both of these performances multiple times since I love them so much.

I am liking identify a little more. It's just that weird guitar/drumming and that choppy chorus. I like the part leading up to the chorus though, that Hikaru sings. I really like Musunde. It's nice and refreshing. Hokage will be every once and awhile though. Oh and on the subject on "anison" I think it's the director's call to tell Kajiura what kind of song to write. I think this has been known for awhile now. But One Light actually was different imo, I just did not care for it that much.

Do anison, popularity... Kalafina is changing, yes.
But thanks popularity they can make their performance better. E.g. live in Budokan and maybe more amazing performances in future. i have a dream that Kalafina will have live with full orchestra - it's only possible with big popularity.
I know that some of you are saying that in large venue it's less connection between Kala and audience. Large venue isn't a problem. (Nana Mizuki has lives in big places and she has a great contact with audience, even if it's a lot people there). Kala-girls are too shy in relationship with audience (in small venue it wasn't a problem but in largest places: yes). During RM, AE, Consolation lives I have a feel that they were avoiding a little looking on the people in the most of live. In Budokan was a little better - I saw that they're trying - but still it was no directness. Maybe Kalafina must accustom to large venues like Budokan (if they want to follow this way... Now thay will have live in Forum Hall A so maybe they gave up doing lives in so big places? But Kajiura-san said after Budokan that she wonder what will be next target. And Kalafina actually endeavor to this target - this prmotion of their album isn't accidental).

Maybe their next target is to hit mainstream. Far on the Water, more so than the other albums, have a wider "appeal" by having a more mainstream J-rock and J-pop sound with a hint of that Kajiura flavor.
