Kalafina 5th album "far on the water"

After Eden is on the 2nd place in my ranking. It's great album - I think. I love Eden, sanpiper, magia, magnolia, du, mune no yukue, symphonia... It was the best selling album of Kalafina, isn't it?
Well... it did include Magia and a Madoka insert card (which was calculated as fuck of Sony to do). Pardon my negativity.

I agree. Sony's decision was very calculated, though After Eden wasn't their best selling album. If we're excluding the "Best" albums, then Seventh Heaven ranks the highest sales wise, according to oricon and given the link @aki gave in the OL thread, it looks like seventh heaven sold 4k ish more in number of copies (though, AE had a better opening week) and 12k more in the sales category. But yeah, SH had all the KnK themes in it so...

AE would take 3rd place for me, taking the cake right over SH (Least favorite AE song (Snow Falling)>Least favorite SH song (Ashita no Keshiki)). As for FOW, I would think that this would take 3rd place so far, between Consolation and AE. But either way, I love their music and will continue to follow them. Here's how I look at it: even though Kalafina's current songs may not be as great as eariler songs, their harmonies have gotten a lot more complex. For instance, in an older song, if Wakana or Hikaru had lead, the only other person singing would be Keiko. The other member would be standing there for the majority of the time (I'm looking at you, Lacrimosa). Now, it seems there is hardly a time where one member is not singing. Going off of this, remember Kalafina's main claim to fame: harmonization. So, by making their harmonies more complex, and having 3-part harmonies instead of the 2-part harmonies of the past (for the most part), they've effectively gotten better at what they do best, haven't they?

Excuse me for my ranting :XD:

Ok, you're right. Yes, AE had a Magia. However for me it's a gorgeous album. And AE Live was my favourite live of Kalafina. I hope that FOW will on the good place at Oricon.

SH>RM≈Consolation (swings one way or the other depending on my mood) >>AE. Not saying that AE is terrible. It's just that only about 3 of its tracks really resonate with me. As opposed to about half of the songs in RM & Consolation and everything except Ongaku in SH.

FotW for me is treading into AE territory at the moment, but I'm keeping an open mind until its upcoming release.

Same. I was really excited after hearing Sorairo, but it seems as though that's going to be the only song with a Celtic edge on this album. I'll hold out until the next 3 songs before settling on anything definitive, but I'm not super excited.

I totally love the sample of monochrome. It's weird, but it's a little different from the typical "weird" I think of with Kajiura's music. I'm a sucker for accordions and I like the pluckiness of the song, so I think this song might be an album favorite for me. Really happy to hear her compose something this off-kilter again.

Identify is nice, though it's pretty much just some rock song.

But even if it sounds similar to songs that already exist, it's still not something that makes me think "Kajiura," even with the love come down comparisons. In any other context but a Kalafina album, this song would probably be the opposite of "variety," but I think it's kind of different for them...?

Maybe that's just me getting caught up in the harder-sounding guitars. Anyway, it sounds like a song I wouldn't seek out, but that I would enjoy if it came on in my playlist. Maybe it'll grab my attention more after I listen to it enough times.

Musunde isn't getting much praise here, huh? I can see why, but I kind of like it. It has this fresh "falling through the sky" feeling. I'm afraid I might change my attitude after hearing the full thing though, since it seems like a song that I would only like for a short time before it started to grate on me. Even the end of the clip already feels like it's pushing it. I like Hikaru and Keiko better than Wakana in this. She kind of bores me in this one.

Sorairo... It sounds good, but I don't know if I'll be crazy about it. It has potential... Feels like a mix of traditional music and traditional Kajiura, which is always nice. At the very least, it's a respectable-sounding song from Kalafina, and I think this album needed that.

I love Musunde. It's not the newest thing from Kajiura in terms of sound, but I can't help but love it. It gives me the same fuzzies as ring your bell, HnS, YnD and Eden. The girls actually sound happy singing this, and perhaps that is why I love it (even if it is just a sample).

For me, it's Musunde = monochrome > Sorairo = identify > FotW = ring your bell > One Light >>> believe = heavenly blue.

I actually appreciate One Light in this album because it's a song that requires a ton of stamina and good coordination by the girls when singing it live since they're switching between lead and harmony so much. It's also that crowd pumping song which we haven't gotten in a while.

I do love Kalafina's harmonization and it was one of the things that got me into following their group. They have gotten better with their harmonies, more or less, for sure. Sometimes, though, I think Kajiura puts in too much harmony (like it seems like there are 4 parts in a recording and it doesn't translate as well into live shows).

Oh, I just pointing out the numbers, but I do like the AE album too. :XD:The only songs I don't really care for are snow falling, in your eyes, and Eden. Even then, I still listen to them on occasion.

Much to a certain someone's dismay, Hokage might be a Wakana ballad with lots of piano.

I say this based on what Wakana said on FM Northwave. She said that for Hokage, both her and Sakurada recorded the song together in the booth (as opposed to doing it one after another).

I thought they meant that Hikaru will sing the stanza after the sample ends and then it'll go back to Wakana again when they say that Hikaru will sing on the second part of the song. I mean, 1:29 to the song and it's only verses x 2 but the track length is only 3:18. I'm not sure Kajiura will pull another Tsuioku on the song, with Wakana on verses and Hikaru on chorus/reffrain. Ah, only 6 days until the release. We'll just wait and see then. At the very least we could get surprised by Usumurasaki, and Gogatsu no Mahou (I'm pretty sure into the water is another prelude). I'm still bummed Kajiura uses the same lyrics over and over again. monochrome has Gaika's lyrics and identify has stone cold's lyrics and hook. @Hatouchan

Oh. And about Hokage: Copypasting sora, blergh. Plus it seems there won't be any songs with Nozaki on drums. Another blergh point. Kalafina should update their description as Wakana with occasional Hikaru plus Keiko on chorus.

So you're saying that Hokage is a ballad? Probably you're right. I hope that bright ballad like Kimi ga hikari ni kaete yuku.
I hope too that Usumurasaki is a techno/rock/disco song! I really want to hear another magnolia/obbligato.
Often before release were some leaks so maybe we get the whole album earlier :plot:?

actually Wakana's dress "reveal" both legs as the curtain-ish fabric also parts in the middle (just take a look at fotw pv again). it's just the angle of the photo that makes it as if only one of her legs is visible. and this is nothing new. they've been using this concept of left/right/both (or none) ever since the black leather-y Magia live tour 2011 dresses.

Ooh I like how Gogatsu sounds and Usumurasaki sounds totally different from what I was expecting lol but it's interesting.
Hokage is indeed a ballad and ngl I kind of like it.

I like Gogatsu's intro but the vocals are like Iunno, either Distance or some Kalafina I can't pinpoint ATM. iSuck. I'm in for the full monochrome and Usumurasaki. Maybe Sorairo. signal in the meantime.
