Kalafina 18th single "One Light" for Arslan Senki [confirmed]

After examining a bit more, the dresses are nicer than ring your bell's, but Hikaru's is my far the most attractive. Keiko's has a weird (gold?) random gold layer and Wakana's looks like it's been made with cut up bits of fabric and stuck together with silver tape :/

And Wakana looks either cold, confused, sick or all of the three where she's holding her arm. But yes, you can see the dresses more. I do actually like these a lot, but I kind of miss the corsettes like in Kagayaku and to the beginning, two of my favorite covers. But I wish to get all the postcards. *sigh* Guess I'll have to wait to see if FromJapan will get them.

Also just saw the latest Arslan episode with One Light at the end and I think it is growing on me. I still can't get used to the chorus yet, but I like almost everything before. The drumming is just so... :...: but at least I am looking forward to the full version.

Kalafina 『One Light ~Short Ver.~』MV :nosebleed:

Just saw the short PV. As pretty as they look in this (Hikaru especially imho) :shy:, I feel like so far it's just Heavenly Blue and Believe's PVs in a different place--their movements, the way the camera moves, etc... There are some pretty good shots of each of them, though. I hope to see more of the map shots in the rest of the PV. The song is starting to kinda grow on me in the meantime.

The PV looks cool but am I the only one thinking the setting doesn't fit the song at all? Think of Moonfesta PV recorded in a jail or in a hospital. Kind of misplaced. I have the same feeling here.

I really like all of the Hikaru shots :nosebleed:

Though I agree with @magicmagiamahou that there are too many Keiko shots. Despite that, I still like it and think it's better than HB and Believe's PV.

EDIT: After watching it again, I have one complaint: The camera is EXTREMELY shaky during a pretty big portion of the PV. It's confusing to know what's going on (well, with Kalafina, there really isn't much going on in their PVs...)

Gosh darn it, no shaky cam Kalafina! Ugh... sorry, it does have a weird feel to it, but maybe being in that dark place is part of the ambiance of the "one light" theme? Also I like Wakana's hair style, and I think she has good projection in this song. It fits her voice well. I like it when they all bring their hands in front of their faces and then down. (I think it has to do with the character in the show that has a mask maybe? I have to read the lyrics of the short version if it is up.)

I think all these lazy songs come from lazy animes tbh, none of these series seem to be high profile, although I could be wrong about that because I'm not that into anime. I loved Ring your bell and Believe but Heavenly Blue and this sound terribly generic. I don't know, it's certainly worrisome to me, I used to love everything Kala released...

^Yay! Someone else that likes Believe! heh Also I like Arslan, I just don't like him I guess? But yes, I can see why some people wouldn't care for it. It takes a little while to like it, at least for me it did. Plus I think it's a remake from the 80s or something? I'd have to look it up.

I actually think the ending visuals play a big part in Kajiura's creative process for ops and eds. I just watched the One Light ed animation and it isn't anymore interesting than the song.

Also I like Arslan, I just don't like him I guess?

Arslan is bae

but I will respect your opinion :)

I see how Arslan is said to be "bad". Of course, its a war anime with actual strategic and very slow pacing, I love it, but I don't think Kajiura makes Kalafina do opening themes for any lazy anime. Fate Zero and Madoka Magica were really good. Aldnoah was acceptable and I haven't seen Unlimited Blade Works, Sora no Oto or Eve no Jikan (I think that's what it's called).

It's to the request of the director and sound director. Kalafina has to make an OP that they would want.

Kajiura needs a good sound director to make good music, aka KnK, Madoka and F/Z. If Kajiura receives only vague instructions or lets her do what she wants, this is what we get.

Actually its when they dont let her do what she wants when we get these
^This. Given the "meh-sounding tie-in A-side with better B-side" pattern we've been seeing lately, I'm pretty sure that this is what's happening. It's a "the customer's always right" situation I think. If the songwriter has clear instructions and enough creative freedom, he or she can produce something that's appropriate for the job and sounds good. If the instructions are unhelpful or too vague, or if people start interfering, that's when you get problems.

I recall an interview with Michiru Oshima where she described a difference of opinion between her and Yasuhiro Yoshiura during the scoring for Patema Inverted. At the end of the day, it was the director's production so she put her misgivings to one side and complied with his requests. Fortunately, the movie and its music were great, so it all turned out okay that time!
