Vocal Discussion of Yuki's Singers

You know, I was thinking like wintersviolet (sis ♥) for a while. Wakana seems to be REALLY struggling nowadays. From Magia onwards she seems to have many difficulties reaching high notes, and some of them aren't even that high (Magia's, for example, are relatively easy). Some people say that she has been sick lately, but I'm beginning to have my doubts on this. I was also thinking that her range had diminished, even if I wasn't sure that was even possible. Also, her voice nowadays has been...rather harsh, in a sense.

^ Same here. Wakana seemed to be much more comfortable back before Kala did a tour every other month, in the FJ-only days. And I do find that her voice is a bit harsh - worse than Hikaru for me, actually.

I was waiting till the DVD came in to give my final judgement...I was thinking that if she sang well in it, then her recent struggling could just be credited to the flu again. But to be honest, I can't help but think that something over the last year or so, whether it's the constant Kala touring, her involvement in FJ+Kala+OSTs, or something else, has worn out her voice.

All I can say is that I hope she has time to take a break before it catches up with her. All of Kajiura-sensei's projects wouldn't be the same without Wakana's voice.

Range cannot be diminished :sparkleguy:
Its probably like what Ninetales mentioned, stress from constant performance, and stress from Yuki sama etc etc etc :XD:
Last time when i sang in a choir ( i was high sop using head voice to sing)
and i actually had 5hrs practice sessions straights with only 5-10mins break every 1-2hrs. Within 1 month, i can hear my own voice becoming weaker and weaker... ya soo...
I can tell how Waka chan feels... For Keiko and Hikaru, using chest voice and mix voice respectively to sing is much easier than using head voice...
head voice like what Waka chan uses puts more pressure on the vocal chords cause in order to sing high, vocal cords need to "zip up" normally a singer won't feel strain but excessive long periods of head voice can be really tiring :omg:

I hope after To the Beginning, Kalafina can rest slightly more :XD:

^ :omg: yeah I noticed Wakana's voice has gone off-form sometime during last year...there was that one sick influenza performance where she sounded horrible and grating, and then after that, she just hasn't quite recovered...

It's probably a mix of sickness + not resting enough + stress + straining constantly + maybe too many performances all at once...

Or maybe she's getting old :ghost:

Hopefully nothing permanent has been done to her voice... Still love her so much :TdT:

EDIT: ...but I wonder for example in their tour concerts if she used falsetto more when doing chorus, she would be able to last longer using her chest voice for the songs where she is singing main part? :confu:

I doubt Kalafina will be able to rest for a while. It seems Kajiura has been quite requested these years, so it is highly possible that she will just use Kalafina again in whatever project she ends up in (well, she could use FJ, but it is not that often anyway).

^That wouldn't be a smart decision, given what's happening to Wakana. But I agree, I really doubt they'll get any rest. I don't know a thing about singing, but I see that Wakana was always the the one that gets most tired, even since vol.#2. The big amount of work is not doing any good to her, as it seems, and it's a shame, because I can see Kalafina just continuing like this, when they should take a break to rest a bit (and some lessons, why not). If this continues, I don't know for how long Wakana will be able to handle it (yeah, I'm pessimistic, but this realy worries me). And if she's been getting sick so many times/for so long in last year or so, she must have some serious problem, and should take care of it. But I don't that's the case, because if it was, she would have got some more serious illness, I guess. Anyway, she should take care of her health.

U know i think why Wakana voice is exacerbating...
Last time when i was in the choir we had 5hrs practice sessions in monday wed and fri. So with so training much training, our conductor often said when we rest, we should try to avoid talking and singing...
Sooooo.... If think now... Can Wakana ever stop talking
:uh..:

Yeah, I thought about that too, while responding to another topic...she doesn't help herself. XD

I think that's definitely it. To be honest, I feel my vocal cords getting tired when I sing two or three songs in a row, so I don't even think sickness is needed to make things worse. Then again, I don't have professional training.

Well, Joan Sutherland sang opera up until her 60s or 70s, I think...so if Wakana's training is good enough, she wouldn't need to quit this early :XD:

With proper training and care one should be able to sing into their mid and later years. Lea Salonga started singing at 7. At 41 her voice is as clear and strong as ever. And Yuki's own Emily Bindiger is well along in her years and still singing.

Apparently the Kala members have different warm-up and cool down routines. Maybe this is a crazy idea, but I feel Wakana could benefit from imitating Keiko's since she's a strong singer and good with holding her notes. Plus if Wakana exercised with Keiko she might not tire so quickly in lives and it would help her air support too.

BTW I wonder if Wakana's still drinking lattes... I remember she said she drank them all the time and was switching to water. Dunno if she followed through with that.

I also concern about this issue...it's always Wakana who seems too weary to maintain her best performance for the whole lives...

I think someone had mentioned Latte before...I wonder that what Latte can do with your voice...:confu:..it's just the mix of coffee and milk.. Drinking milk makes you feel not good when you have so much mucus in your throat but it doesn't make your throat condition worse. (BTW, it sounds reasonable if she drinks only iced latte or so...)

I think cold drinks are bad before performances. Caffeine can cause anxiety and sleeplessness, and coffee might be dehydrating.

Wakana has been indeed straining herself, as I watched After Eden, I thought it was kind a hard for her. It's as if she's struggling. I didn't know that it is possible for a singer to diminish her vocal range (health concern is a different situation though).

LOOOOOOL it'd probably help if Wakan talked less :XD: :XD: But she probably can't help it since it seems to be in her nature...I know some people who are naturally talkative feel like bursting if they have to stay quiet for too long :XD:

Dunno if sopranos have different warm-ups to alto singers? :confu: Cos their voices are different? But she should try working out with Keiko to improve her lung capacity and general health and wellbeing :goodjob:

Well I hope this is just a temporary lapse and she'll get back to her old self...eventually...:touched:

+1!!! *__*

Then she has to choose what is more important for her - talk a lot or be a singer

From my experience, I think talk a lot as long in controlled volume level and not yelling doesn't exhausted ur throat.

I do feel my thorat exhausted where I'm in a noisy room with loud speakers and need to put more efort to talk to my friend next to me.

Hmm...Dunno...I think that normally, latte is a hot drink, isn't it...:confu:..unless stated it as iced latte.., I think latte alone is usually referred as a hot one. Having caffeine too much isn't good for health but well...it seems like so many working people in this world are already addicted to it...can't start working in a new day without a cup of caffeine drink... :ohoho: (I got tea instead of coffee..:P.)

^Yeah, iced latte. I think there are a few screenshots of it floating around xD
