^ I think also Animax? She did pretty well, I think, but she still sounded different to usual (like...breathier and not as smooth as she used to be)? :confu: And I remember people thought she sounded weird in that Studio live version of oblivious or something... :confu:

Aye aye...

I think that in Animax Wakana was good , but "sorairo no days" is not a song for her tones!
And about her "tiredness" , do not forget that she's a soprano , so part of it , is normal!!

In which performances did Wakana sound strained? I only remember Lisani and AE special.

Yes to Lisani and AE Special. She also sounded different during Animax. Red Moon too. Wakana looked so strained when she's singing "Natsu no Ringo" and "Haru Wa Ougon no Yume no Naka".

Personally, I still think that the situation isn't black and white. It doesn't seem like simply a matter of "Wakana can consult with her management/Sony people/Kajiura-sensei and fix things". Her management might be loathe to let her take a break; Sony might feel the same for monetary reasons; and Kajiura-sensei might not have the influence to affect the former two decisions.

This is my position on the whole situation:

1. The problem, whatever it is, has gone on long enough to make me believe that it's either a long-lasting illness or something chronic, due to Kala/FJ's large amount of recent performances.

2. There are many different facets to the situation, which - while I do trust the management to a certain extent - makes me suspect that something might be preventing any action from being taken.

3. Therefore, I believe that we should express our concerns, in Japanese for ease of understanding, to Kajiura-sensei for starters. As long as we make it clear that criticism isn't our intention, we probably shouldn't be misunderstood.

4. However, I agree that, before sending any emails out, we should wait until the next live performance is released. If Wakana seems to have improved drastically, then I agree that no action should be taken.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

[+2] Agree with Niney. And I do think we should say something, because this issue seems to be lasting over an year, by now. And for God's sake, they wouldn't sue us for worying about Wakana's health! (I hope :XD: )

But when is their next performance (that we'll be able to hear, somehow)?

As said Keiko in her latest post on blog , they'll be in Kitakyushu!
So I think , as in 2011 , it'll be released the video *___*

Oh really? :confu: I thought she looked and sounded perfectly fine in Red Moon...In fact, I think she was fine all through 2010, it was just last year 2011 where something happened...

For me it started with Kitakyushu 2011 (when Wakana was sick with a flu and a horrible sore throat) and the videos of Magia and Lacrimosa on youtube are :uh..: ; the harmonies turned out quite cringey in Magia and Lacrimosa I think just completely killed Wakana, you can actually hear her voice crack and go completely hoarse and grating on a few of the notes, especially one 'Lacrimosa' that she sings where her voice literally sounds like someone is tearing out her vocal chords

I do admire her tenacity :touched: and she didn't lip-sync even though she was sick, but hearing Lacrimosa was really painful, especially because I could literally hear how much it probably made her throat hurt and also because she looked so disappointed with herself during the performance even though she tried to stay in character at the beginning of the song (and not only that, her in-ear mic fell out halfway through Magia, so in general I think she was just having a really, really bad day  ) Anyway, after performing Lacrimosa (some of those notes don't seem easy for her anyway in her normal condition, she has to belt them out pretty hard and I've noticed she always tires drastically after performing this song, e.g. Red Moon Live) and straining her throat so much, it probably even slowed down her recovery a bit...

After Kitakyushu at the beginning of 2011 it just seemed to me when went on a bit of a downwards spiral…I can’t actually remember any more performances we might have seen in between Kitakyushu 2011 and Animax/Lisani so she might have actually recovered from that in between before getting bad again, but my memory of things just skips to that Animax Studio Live where people said she sounded odd and breathless on ‘oblivious’, chopping up her notes where she used sing the song smoothly, and her falsetto sounded different as well, apparently. Then there was that Magia performance at (Animelo? Was it? Darn it, these anime events are confusing…) where (I think she did okay…) but her harmony wasn’t quite right.

Then it was Animax(?) with ‘nowhere’ where people said she didn’t sound so good (although I don’t know if that was because of some people saying Hikaru supposedly screwing up the harmony or if it was Wakana’s voice just not being very suited to the song) and then the unpopular Sorairo Days (though admittedly that song was just not suited to her sort of slower-paced voice anyways, luckily she didn’t get that many lines…)

And finally in Lisani, I think she sounded alright in terms of being on tune and everything, and oblivious wasn’t as choppy as the Studio Live, but all the same, I noticed a definite change in her voice from how it used to sound. It was subtle, but it was definitely there…her falsetto in oblivious still sounded different (breathier?) to the way I remember her falsetto used to sound and whilst the singing was smoother, it wasn’t as smooth as her old performances of oblivious. I did like symphonia but once again her voice sounded shakier and just…different… :confu: The essential character of her voice is still there, but the texture has changed.

And then of course, we had After Eden...

In the end though, I’m almost 100% certain it’s just fatigue and over-singing because she just sounds like she’s tired, not actually seriously ill/sick (like at Kitakyushu  my heart bled for her that day  :touched: ) So I agree wholeheartedly with ninetales, aero-senpai and Hime – let’s wait for their next live video and see how it goes…(will we get to see Kitakyushu? :confu: )
A question though, when do Kalafina get rest times? Do they get a few weeks off for holiday every few months or is it just snatch a couple of days off if they have time? :confu:

Last year they showed Kitakyushu video on youtube , so I think we'll also have this year *______*
And yes..a vacation for all three should be a good thing , they could come to Italy and I'll host them at home *dreaming* :XD: :XD:

That seems to be the million dollar queston right now XD I think they snatch a couple of days off when they have any free time, be it like...two days wvery month? XD They don't stop.

About her voice quality, I put some Kala songs in my MP3 again, and I noticed that she sounded bad in Eden, and her voice sounded different/weaker in general. As for live performances, she started to sound bad in the end of 2010, iirc, and then throughout 2011. And I'm starting to think that it's quite possible that it's her throat being worn out due to constant use, given that she was never resilient. I was really surprised with how tired she got after the sequence Mezame - salva nos - zodiacal sign in vol.#4.

It's true..

Well I guess.... she'll collapse the next few days/weeks.

Oh gosh please not!

^ Yes, Wakana's stamina and lung capacity have never been the best compared to the other girls...Yuriko and Keiko I think are the best? and then it's Hikaru and Kaori (don't know much about Yuuka, though...)

Same thing happens sometimes with Lacrimosa sometimes - it's one of her 'tiring' songs. Lacrimosa was the turning point in Red Moon where she was doing pretty well up to it, but after it she looked burnt out in both Mata Kaze, Kyrie (especially) until the next break came up.

It might just be the natural condition of her body? :confu: Maybe she should train at the gym with Keiko! :goodjob:

I think that if she is like that, with so low endurance, it should really be a major counting factor on their schedule and activities decisions.

:psst: (sorry, I couldn't resist :XD:)

Erm.... can I ask something...?
Anybody here went to their concert/live? Can you tell me how they sound? Good? Okay? Superb? :confu:

^ Oh wait! Koni's question just reminded me! It's weird but if I remember correctly, everyone said Wakana performed well at AFA Singapore 2011, so that breaks the pattern... :confu: Wonder what happened between AFA and Animax/Lisani/After Eden (whichever one came after)...or is it like Yuki88 was saying a while ago about how when you're actually at the live you tend to get too hyped to notice the mistakes? :ayashii:

But yes, I second KONIcchi's question^^^^ :confu:

^
I don't know if everyone says that Wakana performed well in AFA 2011. Afaik there's only a bit of Magia live that someone has posted in youtube and that's only Keiko's bridge part. And Keiko did an amazing job there. Every blog posts I've read only mention Keiko's performance as well...

^ Oh, but I think I remember someone saying it was her best Lacrimosa, though...and apparently she nailed oblivious and the kajiurago bridge in ongaku...but I don't know for sure...it might be my intense bias towards her clouding and manipulating my memory :blood: :ohoho:
