^ what with this seducive stance / stare, Asuna ? :XD:

The OST is here (thx @elcazador ) but I have no idea how to download it (I suppose you need to create a baidu account and then download and use their program thing to handle the downloading. I found instructions for the account here but I dunno chinese for the captcha)

EDIT: found it on reddit :tea:

a short review.

Surprisingly I enjoyed desolate landscape and in this place even though they're repetitive.

I like in another land too. I know it's the generic theme but I like Metal Gear Solidesque feel to it.

I know many will think it's wayyyyyyyy too generic of Kajiura but I'm sucker for tracks like fly away from here! sorry :)

I guess I enjoyed light your sword too? but lack of depth unlike the original is disturbing.

that's it. more than one third of the soundtrack wheels around the same COUPLE of notes (you are not alone) and the rest are mindless ambiance and repetition of old work. such a notsosurprising disappointment. still I came around to poke the forum :)

my smalll review is that I love all variations of "you are not alone", especially the original, which I find really touching, and the jazzy one which has great flute :sohappy:

i also really enjoyed "tonky", "fly away from here" , and "light your sword, although it was kinda disjointed. I had higher expectations for " in the battlefield once again" since the part used in the anime gave promises. This director is really bad at using Yuki's music, he literally sampled "tonky" and " in the battlefield once again" since there were about 1 min from the first and a few sec from the second, and he keeps using swordland despite the different battle bgms available.

Also I NEED footage of the live they did for Sing all overtures, and that Interview that's into that brochure ugh

@wat11 : Im sure that if some of these tracks were in a Hanako OST you would have liked them just because its not SAO :P

This how the OST CD looks

the rest of the booklet is just some - useless- synopsis for each episode, and interviews from people we dont care about. and again no musicians. Just who thought of including these interviews in OST booklets while Yuki Kajiura's is in a limited thing you can get only in an event ?! :headbite:

I havent' listened to the whole OST yet but I'm already liking it better than vol.1

Spotlight for me on 'Desolate Landscape', it gives me a PMMM feeling, I love it.

as a matter of fact, George, no. There were tracks with only one instrument repeating the same melodies which bothered me then and they bother me here. At least in Hanako there was another level of complexity in most tracks. I try to be as objective as possible and imo Kajiura was lazy here as she has been with Kalafina. each to his/her own :)

^ well its not like that's the first time, KnK 4 and 6 were more or less that way too. The only difference that makes it more noticable in this soundtrack is that there were fewer tracks, so the ones repeating the melody were too close to each other. Personally since i had watched the anime, I knew there were these tracks, and I like them :)

I guess the other REMI song is never going to be released. Shame since it's the only thing from the entire soundtrack that had any kind of flair to it.

I like Desolate Land, Tonky, Urd, Schools day with you, and like @wat11 , I also kinda like Fly away from here, even though I usually dislike Kajiura's adventurous music.

Overall, the soundtrack is pretty lame.

funny how you say that after liking 5 tracks :)

I guess this only leave RHH for future soundtrack work ? Nothing else is announced. Some rest might give her some good inspiration

Well, it's 5 out of 19 tracks. That's less than half of the soundtrack. It would be silly to say I like the soundtrack when I don't even enjoy half of it.
And even then, I just like the tracks, not love them

I rarely like Kajiura's piano or piano/strings only tracks. but:
HtA had tracks like Palpitation, Lost Piece, Awakeness, 君とひとつの夢を #2, 秘めごと and others. There are only so many piano tracks in HtA anyway.

but there are tracks like: 夢みること , 折れた翼, しいたげられて, completely filler tracks. Though even these sound good in the context of other tracks as you're listening through the cd. You are not alone variations are given one after another, and it's literally a few notes. I don't think one needs to be musical to see this (yet I don't claim any expertise here). Sure there are Madokaesque tracks in HtA but almost all those similar tracks had their own identity, imo.

I really try to be objective and it is difficult yes but my conclusion is that Kajiura did not work on SAO properly and frankly it's high time that this endeavor is over.

I too noticed its only a few notes, but this doesnt stop me from liking it. HtA indeed has some nice piano/strings tracks, but I was mainly comparing with tracks from other anime OSTs she has done.

If they continue this with Kajiura or not, is not for us to decide, though. I personally would prefer if:

- ufotable picks her for Heaven's Feel
- They continue Pandora Hearts and hire Kajiura for it again, as the mangaka promised in that interview (he nearly confessed to her :psst: )
- She chooses to compose for some PS3/4 videogame or new interesting anime, since Madoka and SAO will probably be a long time until they continue

erm, george, Mochizuki Jun is female

Yes to the HtA tracks having their own identity even if they seem to have similarities to previous works

I've listened through this Sao ost a few times but no tracks stick in my head afterwards. I like desolate landscape and sort of enjoy in the battle field once again and in this place, though.
