Hello to everyone on CPM. I'm yet another long time lurker from Singapore. I usually really just lurk everywhere so this is my first time posting in a forum proper. Please be gentle, lol.
Here's my report/review of the concert, with a summary of whatever MC I can remember.
*seriously large wall of text incoming*
Overall, I found the concert to be excellent.
The only issue I had was that the music was too loud. It was drowning their voices out at times.
I had to really struggle to hear their voices above the loud music sometimes, so I was surprised to read (somewhere) that someone found the music too soft. I'm guessing that the music was loud at the VIP side, and soft for the standing ticket holders (I was at row I, by the center aisle on the right side). I suppose being near the front isn't always a good thing. What a dilemma. To be closer to them and see them live better, or to sit further away and hear them better?
Anyway, I got really excited when Magia started playing, lots of cheers from the crowd too. It was a pretty long intro that only had a softer version of the "yeeeeh". Instrumental version? Can't be sure. Lots of smoke/fog, creating a very mysterious atmosphere. Then they appeared and the song started proper. The music was awfully loud and I was worried while they were adjusting themselves to the volume. They were too soft at times, too loud at times, but it was fine after a while. I did think Wakana was still a little too loud by the end though.
The intro to Oblivious started playing right after Magia ended and I found myself blurting "Oblivious!!" out loud. It was a really nice intro, which is the same one that played during their performance at ANIMAX MUSIX FALL 2010 IIRC. Cue cheers when the girls started singing the "Ahhh" parts, which was done really well by both Wakana and Hikaru. They did a short MC, introducing themselves and the songs that were sung.
I couldn't hear Keiko's harmonising parts most of the time, since the music was too loud, which was a real shame. But it got a lot better when Kagayaku no Sora no Shijima ni ha started playing, being a ballad and all. Wakana was pretty much perfect here.
Next up was Lacrimosa. Hearing the Kajiuran at the start really made my hair stand. I had always found the CD ones soft and lacking ever since I started listening to the live versions, so hearing the Kajiuran live was really satisfying. It was another strong performance by the girls.
Another MC where they asked the crowd if they knew Black Butler.
They then continued with sprinter, which was a crowd favourite. Wakana mentioned in the latest blog post that the crowd was singing along, which means I wasn't imagining it afterall, lol. It was mostly covered up by the loud music at my side though. This song made me realise just how much I wanted to see them live. I suppose it finally hit me then that, yes. They are singing live, several metres in front of me, in sunny little Singapore. I was tearing up by the time they reached "Kimi ni aitai..." where they pointed at me random directions at the crowd. 会いたかった。本当に会いたっかたよ!
They moved on to Ongaku immediately after that, firing the crowd up like never before. I totally didn't expect them to sing Ongaku since this was a an anime related event, but I was glad that they did. It got me really high and finally gave me my dose of Keiko goodness. Keiko did mention in an interview that Ongaku was the song she loved to perform the most and it was really apparent here. She totally rocked the song, going to both Wakana and Hikaru's side of the stage, which caused the crowd to cheer, jumping up and down (or was it just me, lol). Then, of course, there was Wakana's Kajiuran solo, which impressed me to no end.
Another MC, which totally reeked of "the next song is going to be the last song" before they even started. Just as Wakana had posted, the crowd was cheering like mad before Keiko could finish saying "Please listen to Hikari no Senritsu". It was performed beautifully. Personally, I found this to be an acceptable song to end on. They then thanked the crowd, lots of "We'll be back" and "We wish to perform all our songs next time" (as in not just anime songs) from the girls. They then left while Storia played in the background, or was it the one from the OST instead...
To the person who said that the VIPers did not shout for an encore, we did shout. But since we are in front, and our voices were directed towards the stage, you probably could not hear us. To make things worse, Storia was playing really loudly and was drowning us out. I do hope that the girls did hear us shouting for more though. And don't worry, although I think I heard more shouts for Keiko, there were shouts for the others as well.
For the MCs, they tried to do most of it in english. Wakana gave up first though, lol, and Hikaru sounded pretty okay, much better than I had expected. Keiko was really cute when trying to say that it was their first time performing live in Singapore. She said it in Japanese first before going something like "first time live Singapore?" and pointing towards the ground. Can't remember the exact wording but it ended with a big question mark since she wasn't sure if she said it right. The crowd understood, though, and responded with cheers.
They also talked about food, as usual. Wakana enjoyed the chicken rice (I think everyone invited to AFA ate chicken rice) and specifically liked the black sauce. Keiko asked the crowd for recommendations for sweets, which in Japanese can refer to a wide range of things. Mostly dessert, cookies, cakes and the like. The crowd didn't understand at first but slowly started to respond with lots of different food. It was pretty much all over the place, though, and I think they didn't catch any of it. Shame. There goes my plan of baiting them back to Singapore with food. If only they found a SG delicacy they couldn't resist...!
Overall, the entire performance was really good, enough to make me believe that minimal studio magic was required for videos of their lives. I pray that other fans in other countries *cougheuropecough* will get a chance to hear them live someday. Hikaru mentioned that they were honoured to be invited by AFA, so the general feeling I got from that was that if you had a large enough con willing to invite them over...
PS. It got VERY VERY long. I'm sorry! I hope there's no rule against long posts?
