Kalafina 5th album "far on the water"

I would agree that the BD one is the worst, but I'm getting that one because I have no players that can play non-region 1 discs :XD:. Otherwise I would get the DVD one.

My attempt at making a "cleaner" version of the RE cover (not perfect, obviously).

Removed the PNGs, zoomed in a little to focus on the girls and added a subtle ripple effect to the reflection.

Although I was definitely hoping for a different color scheme, I guess this wasn't a bad one, either. Still thinking the Blu-ray cover is such a bad case of Photoshop. Srsly, who does these things?! (not that I could offer something better to the table, but still...) I could feel it's a little lazily done somewhat, although the concept really does look intriguing.

So glad I got the vinyl version anyway (although still no player at the moment... but we'll get to that. someday... any time now). It's a nice consolation prize since I love it the most out of all the covers. I think I rank it as (vinyl > regular > DVD) >>> Blu-ray.

Sigh why am I such an HD junkie >_< (although honestly, aside from Budoukan, their Blu-ray releases have been so far subpar in my opinion)

I have the same issue. I want that footage in HD but the cover is awful. Then again since I shelve my CDs so you only see the spine it's not as if I'll look at it often. If I want something to look at there's always the vinyl. I wonder what they'll use for the promo posters? I'll have to get one to go with all my others, hope it won't be similar to the BD edition cover.

It's less of an issue with the single releases as I don't really care about PVs, so I can decide based on cover art alone since the bonus stuff is almost always just a PV. It seems common that the DVD covers are better than the BD ones anyway. With extra live footage it's necessary for HD in my opinion. It's so much prettier.

Also I disagree about their BDs being subpar besides Budokan. I have both RM and AE and they're both great to me, and at least Hikaru isn't dying there. I hope she'll get over this.

Standing on lily pads, lounging under a tree with very big books and birdcages and flowers... I think they use "Thumbelina" as the coverarts concept. Iirc there was a scene in Thumbelina where she sailed away across a river on a lily pad.

If the album turns out to be good I'll be getting the RE. I want the luxury booklet from LEs (couldn't care less for the footages, can always download it later) but the Keikofag in me wants the Keiko solo photo on the back of the booklet.

Hatou-Thank you! Wow, I hope they don't air all the songs though, I would want to save some of them to look forward to. heh

Smoshes: I agree with you. They kind of do with the lily pads, since that could be anywhere in the water (I kind of wish for that one they made wavy lines to represent the water or something. I really like that one, Hikaru looking off with her hand gesture, which reminds me of the Budokan live of fairytale.) Though it is kind of sloppy as Suteki said.

And I agree about the HD. I mean, One Light's PV looked great on the HD television that we have, and the Blu-ray player (though it's an old one and not the best.) But Budokan seemed kind of fuzzy at times, unless that was just because of the lighting. Anyways, still looking forward to ring your bell and far on the water live, since I won't be attending any of their lives. *sad face* And I hope they do perform in the dresses. But yeah, I kind of forgot about the After Eden ones. I mean, I love them, since I have the poster of it, but maybe they were too long? Kind of like the Blue and Red dresses from the actual album. I liked those better than the lives.

Maybe my expectations were too high, but I don't like the covers at all. They look "cheap", and unfinished in some cases. The poses in the ones where you can actually see them are, as you have said, unflattering. And the other ones, although they're kinda better, are they covers for ants? I can barely see them. I'm sorry, I hate giving negative opinions about Kalafina stuff, but this is impossible
I do like the dresses, though. I love everything that looks like the moonfesta and/or hikari furu dresses. And the most important thing is the music, so I still have hopes.

^ Lol that video kinda ruined the mystical feel of the covers for me, but I can see the Thumbelina comparisons.

I can't wait to hear the new songs :') hopefully there is a *mystical* theme, but if not that's okay too. haha

I wonder whether that could be a concept-art: the more you pay, the closer you see the girls. You're a tightwad, you need a microscope to look at them. You have a bit of money to buy the DVD LE, you can see them decently. You're rich enough to own a luxuous Blu-Ray player: hurray! you get a close-up!......

The exception being the analog version, though.

The RE and vinyl covers just look like a rehash of Consolation's cover art theme, except that they carried the random birdcages, table, and lamps with them and went outside... lol. It even has a similar sepia-like ambience that Consolation has.

I'd like the DVD cover more if they had drawn the three girls to match the art style. It may be simple, but it's clean, uncluttered, and straight to the point.

^Or remember Red Moon? Consolation at least looked a little better, more finished than Red Moon's covers. I loved the dresses, but there again there was just a chair and trees and the moon. I liked the fans' versions of them better. I wish those were used. It was a cool idea though, but poorly photoshopped. I hate using that term, because I like to think of Kalafina as being professionals, so why can't the people who do the covers be more professional too?

I actually think of Arrietty (with the small images of the girls (they do seem far off in some of the photos, so maybe that's what they were going for?) or Princess Kaguya, with the lines. (Still have to find that somewhere to watch. It looked awesome. I will look at them more closely though.)

I would agree that the BD one is the worst, but I'm getting that one because I have no players that can play non-region 1 discs :XD:. Otherwise I would get the DVD one.

Actually, in my Kalafina experience, their LE DVD versions are 'Region All', so they can be played on any player. My Consolation LE, ttb LE, and Hikari Furu AE all say that and I can play them just fine. Those are the only LEs I own with footage, but I've seen unboxing pics of the After Eden LE, Believe LE and the recent One Light LE and they say 'Region All' as well. I should really check if it has been done on all their releases.

Also if you use Media Player Classic or VLC as a video player on your PC, you can play any region you want, any time you want, no issues at all. They seem to bypass region coding entirely.

The lilies theme on the DVD is cool, and the three of them are shown a bit more prominently. The blu-ray is okay but doesn't have much of the background art at all, and the regular ed is just the opposite. So that's the vinyl (which I've already ordered) and the DVD editions that I like most. I wonder if I'll get chance to order the DC/DVD version before they run out.

The title does look a bit small, but at least on the vinyl the whole image will be 30cm across. All I need now is to get my record deck set up again instead of having to borrow someone else's!

The artwork itself does look a bit rushed and pencil sketch-y, maybe that's intentional. It's more minimalist than the previous four, which all had actual backgrounds rather than drawings so it is a bit of a surprise. It makes me wonder if it's a conscious decision to move away from the gothic-lolita image to something a bit lighter, brighter and more, um, floral? Which makes me a little sad, but as long as the songs are good I'm okay with that. The KnK themes, Lacrimosa and Magia are a few years old by now so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that their dresses and record cover artwork have changed accordingly.
