@nimsaj: So jealous!

Anyways, just got my copy today!!! It's awesome, must say loving it so far. I actually like consolation better now. But here's my review of the new songs only:

al fine: thought it was okay, it's kind of weird hearing them sing kind of faded. I'll listen to it again though, and it will be on my playlist.

consolation: like I said, I liked it more. I like red moon a little more than this song, but I love Wakana's parts.

Door: Wow, this is probably one of my favorite ballads by them. It's so beautiful, especially towards the end with all the piano and chimes. Wakana is beautiful, Hikaru is okay and Keiko is great. One of my favorites.

Hanabata: I actually thought the accordian fit with this song. It reminded me of Noir, and I liked the melody. Very nice song.

signal: I was still hoping I would like this song more, like I said. *sigh* It’s just so chaotic, especially in the beginning. But it still reminds me of an Origa song, which I like. So I’m a little torn with this song. Heh I do really like Keiko’s part.

Obligatto: Okay, this is probably my favorite track. It's very different for Kalafina I think, at least I have not heard a song like it with them before. Has awesome guitar, awesome vocals, love Hanae's part. Love all of it.It's somehow slow and fast at the same time. The Kajiuran reminds me of serenato.

Kiichigo ni Shigemi ni: Nice, I agree that I hear some Kagayaku as well. Maybe some Lacrimosa too? When I heard the beginning I was brought to a battlefield after a battle. Hikaru is very different in this song. I might have to try and play this. The cello is beautiful.

Yume no Daichi: Of course still love it.

Overall I love this album, it is indeed better than red moon, although I loved most of the tracks on there. My ranking: obligatto, door, Hanabata, Yume no Daichi, al fine, Kiichigo ni Shigemi ni, consolation, signal. So glad they have a new album, although a few of the songs seem like it would be really hard to sing live, hopefully they won’t get out of breath. Heh Now going to have obligatto on repeat. :sohappy:

^ I think that since in YK vol 10 Hanae, Yuriko and the accordion guy that played in hanataba and signal will be all there it would be great if their performed they parts too during the Kalafina live, after all they did it for FJY Yuuka in vol 4 who is supposedly "solo" artist, so why not for Kalafina (I hate when they skip some of the chorus parts during their lives)

Woah, I surely missed a lot as usual :XD:

Thanx Kowz-san and Angel-chan on the album and scans. But Im resisting to dl any of it since Im being patient waiting for my copy to arrive :XD:
They sent me email yesterday that they shipped :sohappy: :sohappy:

For now I see moslty its good commented so Im really looking forward to it!! :sohappy:

Also crossing fingers for recording of Consolation event :plz:

Okay, I broke down and listened to Signal. Was not what I was expecting again. I don't like Hikaru's parts, like I didn't in Consolation. but I do like Wakana's and Keiko's. They remind me of a Yoko Konno/Origa song...

Haha, yeah now that you mention it, the beat and singing do sound a lot like ORIGA songs. Just needs a bit of that breakbeat/velocity-modded snare drums and it would fit right in.

Al Fine- Dreamy and beautiful. Makes me sleepy and calm. :XD: Is short, but it didn't seem like the kinda song that just stops. It eased in and eased out. Like Seaventh Heaven's Overture song. :D I loved Al Fine. :)

It's interesting that you note the similarity to Seventh Heaven's overture, because the songs have the same chord structure in the same key. In fact, Kara no Kyoukai's main theme is just that, a VI VII i (VII) progression in c minor. Actually, sprinter is based on the very same, even if the melody is slightly different from the main theme. If you listen carefully, it's in Keiko's solo for Signal as well. Someone (me?) should do a kick-ass mash-up of those three...

On the other hand, it's a very common chord progression and being similar doesn't necessarily mean much. In fact, Ongaku and oblivious both use the same one extensively. Just listen to the choruses for both songs and the ones above and pay close attention to the bass, rising up in steps, then resetting for that pumped-up upward-spiral power-rock-pop feeling :D

I just realized what song Hanabata reminded me of! Akatsuki no Kurama. At least I think it sounds similar. I think Keiko is a little too fierce in this song, she should be more gentle, like she is in Kaze no Machi e. Just my opinion.

The new songs are... boring :uh..: Gomen  I cant even play these songs on repeat Just my opinion. Anyone can kill me if they want. :hide:

I'll probably like this album more after watching its live performance like what happened in After Eden. so...

/me waits for Consolation Live 2013 BD :sohappy:

^ Heh. Everyone's entitled to their opinions. :XD:

After repeating Obbligato for 2 hours, my befuddled brain concluded Keiko sang the opening... with either..Hikaru, or Yuki (?!) chorusing. I swear my ears leant towards the latter... :ayashii: Oh and I love Yuki's slightly creepy ye-ya~a-e ya~a part in the beginning...again, my befuddled brain's opinion, if anyone has different thoughts on that please correct me :nosebleed:

Hanataba and Kiichigo are good ED songs in my opinion. Maybe some anime could use consolation as OP, then the 2 songs as ED. Heh. :ayashii:

I love Keiko's "Hayakuuuuu" in door. Her parts are  So gentle... :dote:

Al Fine's...fine, as it is. IMO.

Can I say that Signal's making my head spin? Maybe I should try listening to it after the slower songs rather than the Consolation-Obbligato-Signal I'm listening now.

I think my only problem with the album is it feels a little short on new content since 5 of the 13 songs were recent singles.

Me too. I sometimes confuse Wakana with Hikaru and Hikaru with Keiko in some lyrics :XD:

They really did it in time with the release of the album, isn't it? So the things that I can get here that are not included in the album are the instrumentals of the songs (all 3), and music videos (for hikari furu LE DVD and moonfesta BD). *thinks deeply if must buy or not*

Oh, and Yuki really took part in the chorus for obbligato. That was nice, I mean, when was the last time she took part in the chorus for a song of Kalafina?

Since After Eden. She also sang in Door.

@rita: I agree with your review but personally I still enjoy mirai and manten, the only problem with consolation is like grunty said that after the bridge yuki copy pasted the beginning of the song's chorus and strings instead writing something new or jumping to Hikaru's part directly.

also to the beginning is nice to hear if you dont listen to it too many times.

Haha, I just simply can't enjoy consolation no matter how many times I listened to it. There are some songs that I don't like at first, but there are some songs that is really great for others while I just can't fathom what so great about those songs and can't bring myself to really liking it no matter what (for my case, red moon, Eden, and consolation). On the other hand, there are some songs that's really great for me but a lot of people hated/not really liking it (ie: Te to Te to Me to Me and progressive).

I actually enjoy to the beginning, but what I really love about that song is Keiko's beginning and the kajiurago. I know Wakana sounds about the same in Hikarifuru, but to the beginning is the very first song where Wakana's new singing style/voice became really prominent and I just can't bring myself to like it in this song, although it's just fine in other songs (like Hikarifuru or Yane no Mukou ni, although I have to admit that the final 'yane no mukou niiii' really hurt my ear, but overall that song has a really nice melody and it 'flows' in my opinion). "Kirei na tsuki no hikari wa" still hurt my ears until now. That, and the fact that I don't really enjoy the melody and the key change in the end of the song.

Manten and Mirai is simply boring imo, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion, right? :XD:

Here are my thoughts about the musician :

Korechan : still as awesome as ever. The guitar melody in obbligato is something I could hear all day long. His guitar in consolation is really nice too (that's the only good thing I could say about consolation, and the kajiurago by Hanae).

Jr : just the same as Korechan. I really enjoy the bass in obbligato and Hanataba.

Yoshiaki Sato : I don't know if Kajiura has ever used him in her other songs, but I really love his playing in Hanataba and signal. It's in something along the line of "sexy" and "romantic" for me.

Kyoichi Sato : please don't hate me for bashing him so much, but this album just make my preference for Nozaki grew more and me disliking Kyoichi more. I once said in chat that I'll be surprised if the one who did the drum in consolation is Sato, because the bridge is quite nice, but then after I repeated it again, it's not that great(aki is there too, he/she should know about this), and it sounds the same as in zodiacal sign. On the other parts of that song the drum is just really dull. And obbligato. Uh. He could do something different in the bridge,or give some hooks/punch in his playing all over the song rather than just play it to keep the beat of the song, like what Korechan and Jr did. His drumming is really emotionless imo. His drumming is really drown by Korechan, Kala girls, Hanae, and Jr. Did not stand out at all.

Masuke Nozaki : I'm seriously loving his drumming more and more. Moonfesta and Mirai is already great. His soft playing in Door is really nice and bring the emotion of the ending part came out even more. We can clearly hear he gave his playing some 'hook'. And Hanataba. As if the song don't have enough emotion packed in, his playing just emphasize that emotion more. I could listen to Hanataba ending all day long. Even with the prominent accordion, piano, Kala girls and Hanae there, his drumming still stands out and not just there to keep the beat of the song. Like aero.senpai once said, his playing follow the song dynamics rather than just to keep the beat (like Kyoichi Sato's playing).

[edit]Ah and moonfesta discount! Definitely gonna buy the RE now. Thank God I haven't placed my order on consolation until today.
