Kalafina 21st single "Hyakka Ryouran" (Katsugeki Touken Ranbu ED)

Well, you all scared me there. I see why you thought of Parallel Hearts, but it's not as similar as I was beginning to imagine (not a fan, although I enjoy its live versions). Also, it probably only is the chorus, the verses still can be Hikaru/Keiko in a subtle Japanese style. Remember how different Märchen turned out to be. (Well, I hope I'm right. If I'm not, I'll probably like the song anyway. It has a little something). Although, honestly, I'd like a different type of song. More like Mata kaze ga. That's a pity.
And, as always, we don't know what Kajiura was asked to do.
I still believe it can be a good song, or at least enjoyable. I didn't use to like One Light and now it's one of the songs I enjoy the most. We'll see.

At least there's a lot of overlapping vocals (Keiko's a lot more prominent than just "another low harmony) from what we can hear which makes it immediately more interesting than their recent A-sides.

This was supposed to be an ED? Lol sounds like another OP. y u no make a proper ED Kajiura.

Wow! I thought it did resemble PH in the beginning, but it might surprise us, like Marchen did with Keiko's part in the bridge. And maybe there will be flute too? Please pretty please? lol Anyways, I am itching for more Kala so I will still wait and see since there is too much talking and yelling over it to give a full opinion yet. I am looking forward to the anime or movie or whatever too! She has been busy lately! I guess that's a good thing, considering we were getting nothing for awhile. I am looking forward to all the projects.

Also maybe we'll get some Hikaru and some Keiko later on. If it is a longer song, like red moon. I want more Konno too! Since we got a guitar solo in Marchen, I feel he's being left out... and I am a huge fangirl, as you know. heh Flute is welcomed too, like I said. I love Rie.

I want a decrease in flute only because it's starting to sound a little bit like a cop-out. Also speaking of song length, I hope that Miss Kajiura played this out right. Personally I think that itw was too long and Märchen was almost too long.

I really don't understand. I just can't. I think Kajiura left her studio, hired somebody else to go through the recycling bin and let them write these.

It is only 30 seconds yes but it is enough to make a judgment. I've been waiting to hear something that excites me but nope. It's just infuriating.

Hopefully the "japanese" flavor is there somewhere? haha

I'd choose Parallel Hearts many times over this one.

Personally I think that she was still there, under the weight of what, two ending singles and a full soundtrack? (I don't know the requirement details for Heaven's Feel) I'm not truly surprised or disappointed. However to say that --

It is only 30 seconds yes but it is enough to make a judgment.

is really pushing it.

25 seconds of vocals clouded by dialogue is not a proper judgement piece. Coming back to this forum after a night of sleep, I even realize that the raw excitement of my previous post is equally . . . unjustified, for lack of better words. Or prejudged.

I do mean to push it because those 30 seconds can be found in maaaaany other songs. no originality, no nothing. I am also weary of commenting that same notes are used over and over again but just wanted to drop the bomb again. Even if the rest of the song is super inspiring (which is extremely doubtful), the snippet is just too much of a copy/paste. enough already :)))

I don't mean to say this is the case in general, the recent Princess Principal may be a good ost after all.

However, the general Kalafina output is indeed suffering, possibly due to project choice, loss of inspiration, whatever you'd like to feel.

can somebody sense that I am about to complain beforehand and stop me? @george1234 maybe you can assume that role lol

Well I'm trying to stop you, because I am extremely grateful for Kalafina and even more so for Yuki Kajiura. I have 552 songs on my phone and her work, including Kalafina albums, takes up between 60 and 70% of that library.

Just as my premature excitement can't truly be justified by 25 seconds, neither can all of your frustration. (Some of it, yes, but I think that here, Miss Kajiura took a stronger piece to repurpose.)

30 seconds is a very good deal of time (particularly since it's not sfx at the beginning of the song or sth) if what's in it is an unacceptable self-plagiarism, to make a judgment.

peace! I wasn't trying to stop you in your excitement:) I am trying to be objective and assess the quality of the piece. I am afraid I feel my frustration is justified in every way imaginable but since I am no musical genius I can't make it a quality critique.

but rest assured I feel the forum is a place for critique. There you can't stop (?) me haha.

@george1234 I hereby declare you my clairvoyant and warn me of dangers to come.

so when kalacritic say bad things about kajiurakalafinawork over 25secs snippet is "pushing it" but when kalastans got way too excited over 6secs sample (that was the case during kalachristmasalbum, which imo is a disaster) is alright?

uurgh sorry being the bastard i am i just cannot hold myself. everyone feel free to put me on your ignore list.

This happened in the 9+one post:

I JUST WENT BACK FROM THE CONCERT
OMG GUYS
HYAKKA RYOURAN WAS AN UNEXPECTED SURPRISE (insert crying noises)

So the music is kind like a mix between magia and gaika? The aura is very war-song. Keiko started the song with powerful vocal (damn gurl)
I couldn't listen very well but there's a kajiura bridge by Wakana that sounds very mellow compared to Keiko's intro and the chorus.

For the music, what I noticed the most is the flute in the beginning. Also very powerful drum (but might be the sound, but yeah)

I wished I'd recorded it so I can listen again orz

Different, for me, since it's my first time listening, the melody of verse, bridge, and chorus is very different. The intro is very powerful with drums and Keiko's magia-ish voice and then it changes to the CM.
Japanese element is in the intro, traditional flute I guess. Can't listen too well coz the drum was too loud /sobs

Hopes high again.
