Kalafina 18th single "One Light" for Arslan Senki [confirmed]

Kalafina and the girls' vocal styles as a whole have definitely matured throughout the group's albums. I guess some people are just used to the old since it's been around longer. For instance I feel the consolation live of Mune no Yukeue is worse than the Eden one since it's been around for longer. It's like this in every fandom, things will turn out.

i honest to god don't see the connection between your post and mine.

to see some people's comments on one light, just see summer anime ending songs on youtube. most videos did put one light on their top list but if you see the comment section, people still find it worse than lapis lazuli.

I am just listening to storytelling now and I think Samidare is kind of the same pace as this song. It will remind me of the song now when I listen to Samidare. And that's great that Kala is still in the top ten. Yeah, some of the animes are not well known. I don't think Aldnoah was all that popular, Madoka obviously. Another example is FJ and Sacred Seven... but this is Kala we're talking about. So Arslan isn't that well known I don't think. It was a show before, so this is a remake I believe. But I never heard of it but started watching because Kala was doing the ending theme, and that happened with other animes as well.

Ehhh lapis lazuli has that typical anime flair. If the general populace likes lapis over one light then that is simply the way things are. It doesn't determine the quality of the music, it just indicates an anime song popularity contest. I like One Light moreso than Believe although their three latest anime related singles are subpar in comparison to their previous works. (One Light > Believe > RYB) << older Kalafina. Perhaps its also the anime that ultimately determines how the songs are composed by Yuki. In terms of quality are Magical Girl Madoka and Kara no Kyokai better than Fate and Arslan?? If the story really grips Yuki perhaps she composes better music in response.

Ultimately, Kalafina will have to bring out anime related music routinely in order to sustain their sales which means substandard music on occasion. Maybe with far on the water we can get some nice original works that stray away from this string of anison song crap.

Wise words. FOTW will hopefully bring something most people want to the table. Am I the only one who liked Samidare when they heard it?

Samidare surprised me at first, but I do like it. I like all three in fact, but they just have that air of 'could be better'.
Mmm I get that air too. I wonder what it'd sound like with strings and flutes instead of guitars...

^Yes! There is a lack of Konno in this single. I wanted more from him in the One Light instrumental part. I mean in the actual song with the singing, not the instrumental version. But Mahiru we knew we were only getting piano, and I am fine with it. I am actually loving that song more since I was listening to it so much trying to figure out the melody to play. And Samidare... not sure there could be a softer violin in it.

And I liked it too at first listen. I thought it a little repetitive, but it's because of that that I really like it. It's one of those "feels good when driving in the car" songs, which is what I felt with storytelling too, which is why I compared it to it.

according to this site, so far it's sold 11,708. not that bad, compared to previous singles' initial release numbers (//pats storia)
Thank you for the link!

I haven't really looked into how people have reacted to this single (outside the forum). Though, I have stumbled upon recently people mentioning the similarities in their recent works (more anime followers than Kalafina followers per se). Not sure if it's due to this single or not.

i am seriously sad this person initially thought that there are only 2 members of Kalafina. you can easily guess which one's left behind. this is why we need more Keiko in Kalafina a-sides. putting Keiko almost always completely on chorus with only one or two lines here and there makes her role no different than Yuriko's.

speaking of that list, the only one i agreed on is renegade. the rest are shit.

I couldn't even hear Keiko in this A side when usually I can hear all 3 parts almost perfectly. She's even more audible in samidare and that songs is almost complete harmonisation with blending in most lines, even in songs like Manten or Lacrimosa her part is more audible than One Light. I wish Keiko was more audible in A sides but as per usual sopranos are ALWAYS given the melody line ( story of my life:cry:)

And Yuriko actually has more "solo" time in Kala than in FJ. heh It's so weird. It's like, why not make her part of Kala as well? She's a guest, or I think that's how they make it that, or say "featuring" or something. But still... I agree about Keiko though. She really did shine in Mahiru and Samidare. But even there it's only part of the song, unlike Alleluia, where she was the lead singer, I think anyways. I know Wakana did the chorus, but she did most of the song. So that's one A-side song anyways.

Νο she does not, since in Kalafina she's only chorus while in FJ gets some songs only to her. Also if Yuriko would join Kalafina would sorta destroy their fresh age air, if you get what I mean, while FJ isnt anywhere as popular so it doesnt matter.

^I just meant in their actual songs, not the lives. I know she has more time in FJ. I was half joking... gomen. I think I was thinking of her in Kala since almost every one I listened to the other day had her in it. heh I get that she's only featured, sorry if I was unclear in my posting. Anyways...

gah! Writing out Mahiru is so frustrating. It's so simple, yet there's so much syncopation and rests in there, and I know practically nothing of composing music, even though I can read music and play it. I thought it would be easy is what I am saying. heh Wakana's part is going to be really hard. I have the melody written out and the words on there, I just need the rest. I hope it one day appears in a sheet music book. Maybe soon they'll come out with another one? It's been awhile, hasn't it?

Yuriko actually has the most solo time in FJY's lives. Basically, Yuriko needs more solos. Not in Kalafina, but everywhere else.

Though, speaking of Yuriko, I wonder why Hikaru doesn't take over her lines during lives, because we know she can hit those notes with her falsetto (HnS, fairytale - I wish she uses her falsetto more). Not to mention her falsetto is lighter than Wakana's, which makes her more suited to the high harmony as well.

I find it a rarity for Kalafina's songs to have a traditional 3-part harmony (1 low, main, and high). Only HnS, some parts of ARIA, heavenly blue and ring your bell come to mind.

fjy songs tend to have both lower and higher harmony. rather than having Hikaru sings the higher harmony, I'm content with Yuriko doing it. imo Kajiura tends to keep the harmonies in fjy lives the way they are in the recording version. Honoo no Tobira, for example has Yuriko doing lower harmony because she performed it in the recording. Akatsuki no Kuruma's harmony is done by Nishina, and in the live performance it's done by Hikaru. for songs with both lower and higher harmony done by Yuriko in recording (aikoi and Kouya Ruten for example), Yuriko did the higher harmony and Hikaru did the lower harmony in live. anyway i don't really like Hikaru's falsetto because it's too whistle-y and it's not in her comfortable range, especially when we take her recent vocal issues.

oblivious live, Kizuato live, storia, fantasia, Yami no Uta, Hoshi no Utai, Mata Kaze ga Tsuyoku Natta, Magia, in your eyes say hi. (not to mention some part of seventh heaven, in every nothing, Mirai, and I have a dream and one light say hi also). actually when Hikaru sings melody they tend to have both lower and higher harmonies. how that could miss your hearing and memory i don't even know lol.

^Thanks, I did not know that about Yuriko in the FJY songs. That's cool. I am still surprised by Wakana in Mahiru towards the end because she is singing lower than normal. She sounds a bit like Keiko, so I guess it's like that. I am glad Kajiura is experimenting with her singers though. (Keiko singing a bit higher in Samidare and Alleluia for example.)

Some thoughts about the single...

I would stand for my initial reaction about the songs and the previews and the PV. While I like One Light + the PV, listening to the song by itself doesn't interest me so much. The instrumental especially makes me feel so bored. It is catchy, yes, but generic. >_< It's fun to sing and to watch at most.

真昼 had some potential, but stops at that. Keiko's placement of her voice reminded me of how she did so at 君が光に変えて行く. Hikaru's voice worries me so much >_< Overall it could've done so much better.

五月雨 is just... ugh, I can't stand listening to the repetitive melodies at all. I think it only got better at the last part? And that lalalalala reminds me of neverending... only so much worse. (and I consider neverending my guilty pleasure, so yeah)

What a disappointing single to say the least. I guess it will help me to hold back before getting the next single. Like get the old ones first as originally planned? I'm just really so much after the tokuten really, but after Amazon hasn't included any postcards with my order, I am just largely disappointed. Sigh. I guess I'll just back-buy them on YJA or something. :uh..:

^I actually like Samidare's repetitiveness, it grew on me. I had said it was kind of like storytelling in that you can drive to it. But I am listening to Tsuioku now and it's kind of repetitive, but people liked that. And yeah, Mahiru is pretty though Hikaru sings it a little too loudly maybe? And she is trying to put emotion into it, but does not sound as good as like fairytale, or Koibito. I always have to turn it down at her part, which I hate doing to Kala songs. But I have been listening to it a lot since I am writing it out, or trying to. I hope there's sheet music for it. I love Wakana's part still. It makes me want to cry almost in the beginning too. Mahiru and Samidare both sound better on record I think. I wish I could record it and upload it, but I am sure I would get in trouble and I don't want that. heh But I just listened to One Light (tv size too with the latest Arslan episode) again in the car and it wasn't as thrilling as with the PV. So I won't be listening to it very often.
