^Yeah, I think I heard that, too. According to that info, Shaft simply had too many works scheduled. Of course, I find it a bit odd, since the other bit of info I read said that Shinbo and Iwakami started discussing the project by the end of Bakemonogatari production... and it should have been 2009 by then. :ayashii:
Nonetheless, I had an impression that Yuki started working on the OST quite recently. Remember her tweet (or was it a blogpost?) somewhere around last October? When she wrote she was composing again [after a short break]? That's when we started wondering about her new work, and soon enough, Madoka was announced.
I'm even kinda glad for such a delay - in 2008 Yuki had her hands full with KnK, so it could happen so that she wouldn't have had the time to compose for Madoka then. :vortex:

But as to Madoka having the best music direction... like Grunty said, there IS the regular repetition of Sis Puella Magica there. While some people, including myself, may find it explainable and alright, something tells me our dear cat-avatared critic is far from being the only one ticked off at such a feature. :ohoho:

Seriously, Madoka's music direction was...I don't even want to remember Sis Puella Magica again. If the song was actually well inserted half of the time, I could have tried to forgive the sound director, but that definitely wasn't the case. The tv series did have its good moments, though. Nux Walpurgis was very well used.

Well, I think MOST of the tracks in Madoka were well used. Postmeridie, Puella in Somnio, Numbra Nigra, Decretum, Salvae Terrae Magicae, Incertus, all barrier and battle themes - they feel in place and frame the scenes nicely.
With Sis Puella Magica, I think they treated it not from the point of fitting atmosphere, but from the point of fitting theme (it's short of being a general requiem for magical girls, actually :leaf: ). And using it from the point of fitting theme is done logically. Guess it's atmosphere fitting issue that people are annoyed at, coupled with the very conspicuous frequency. :tea:

^No no no no no. At least my major problem with Sis Puella was that most of the time the song didn't even match the scene. It was almost like as if they just throwed the song every here and then. If it was just about the frequency, in the garden of sinners would be another problem, and it definitely wasn't.

Indeed you can't just throw any songs everywhere in an episode.I believe scoring also requires timing and the right/fitting music to be inserted.Is it just the music director's favorite music being used ost of the time?

I agree. I liked Sis Puella Magica, but there were some scenes I questioned why the song was even playing. Nux Walpurgis is my favorite because I heard it with such a fitting scene.

Maybe. :psst: Mashimo was known for that, too (IIRC Yuki said that he used Salva Nos a lot because he liked it... and I suspect that was the case with A Song of Storm and Fire as well :XD: ).

You forgot "Canta Per Me" is on the list as well.It seems that's the common case I think. I said "I Think" :]

Eheh, that makes sense in retrospect. I watched a random Noir DVD once, and by the second or third episode was wondering why Salva Nos kept getting played under every single fight scene :ohoho:

Well, even if Mashimo did love the song, I always saw Salva Nos as an "action" song, so whenever it was played, it was in context, let's put it that way. It was just like a RPG that has battle theme and boss theme, and occasionally uses other songs for some specific battles lol

Well, they played Hanae's song again this time, and at least I think it was easier to understand it this time.

Episode 7 notable music

- trailer 1 BGM
- slipstream-like (from tsubasa) fast piano battle BGM :dote:
- Hane Tomaru BGM (same as berserker scene) but full :nosebleed:

lawl, I'm loving the chillaxan-with-Rider BGM in this episode. I don't think I'll be listening to it on the OST but it really made me smile in the episode.

Other shit:
- the trailer BGM is still absolutely delicious! (although less hectic than in the trailer without the drums);
- the beat+piano track was completely out of place IMHO;
- the extended parts in the Hanae theme are pretty decent too; though I really think the calm vocals are slowing the whole BGM down.
