Fate/Zero

Okay, I just decided to bite the bullet and watch it now :ohoho:

Turned off the comments, of course. Who wrote all those weird English ones? :uh..:

So my impressions on the music will follow~

Opening song: I like how RHH OST it sounds. Harp+strings+bg Eri is quite nice. And having the melody in the strings sounds very good. Flute isn't bad either. Oooh, horns!

"In Italy" song: Makes me think of KnK, probably because of the dissonance in the strings. A little overwhelmed by the dialogue, so it's tough to make out.

The animation is just epic. The subtle camera movement in the wideshot while they're talking about the Holy Grail War...amazing

"In Italy" song 2 (while they're pacing): More RHH with the drums. Reminds me of A Forced March.

I have no idea what's going on with the story...I think I should've done some research before I watched this :spotlight:

Cello song: Hmm, this is interesting. Not quite as hopeless and sad as the Madoka Magica or KnK cello songs; it has some Kalafina-esque exoticness to it. I hope it goes longer than that!

Piano (talking about Sakura): Reminds me of something, but I'm not sure what. Nice.

Percussion (talking to the weird old guy): I actually like this despite the fact that there's no melody to it. It reminds me of the middle of Evocation (Le Portrait)...

Should've known this guy could control bugs...

Waver Velvet? Are you serious? :fwa:

"Library" song: Like the percussion! Quite KnK in some ways, with the FX and the heavy drum here and there.

Okay, Velvet here is going to get into trouble.

Ah, those good old runes :tea:

"Message comes in" song: Ominous. More RHH OST, I think. Not bad.

Dissonant flute song (talking about Kiritsugu): More RHH. Seems like more of a bg song than anything else, but it's quite creepy...

"Kotomine Kirei" song: Not sure if this has been played before. It reminds me of the opening song...

The candles flicker!? Oh, this animation!!

Heh, this Kirei guy reminds me of myself. "Gets almost to the point of mastery..." :XD:

Kirei's song is still going: And getting better all the while! Reminds me of when the Seventh Heaven main theme would pop up in the KnK OST, and the percussion would start up... :shy:

"Laying on the floor" song: Good for the scene it's in. Creepy but sad.

And here's I'm-A-Complete-Idiot-san, Velvet :psst:

"In the church" song: Like it. Gentle and a little melancholy...thoughtful. Sounds like real horns in the bg...

"Snake's skin"/"Sakura-chan" song: Yup, Eri Ito. But she's layered, so she sounds really good...and I love the harp too. The melody reminds me of one of the later KnK tracks. The ones that almost make me start bawling, that is.

I don't really get what's going on here, but it's my own fault. I should've done research... :leaf:

Yuri Kasahara/Tokyo Konsei song!: More creepy/mysterious/menacing/tense. Didn't expect it to build with this! Yes, I think there are definitely real horns in the bg. Yuri fits in this, too, definitely. And I like the mood of building desperation...wow, this is a great moment...

Oh no.

Gah, I should've known it was that line coming :XD:

Hmm, as far as I can hear, Oath Sign isn't as bad as I thought it'd be. I like Memoria better to an extent, probably because of the Nokko-esque voice this LiSA has, but the song itself isn't particularly bad. :ayashii: Especially the instrumental :ohoho:

Well...my ultimate impressions on the OST so far...I like it. It's rather KnK/RHH, with a very orchestral feel to it, which I think fits with the story and the mood. The final song is definitely the standout for me.

I don't have much to say about the OST, but the last track was definitely one to look forward to. Not that the others weren't, but the last one really stood out for the moment. I like the song from the beginning, as well.

As for the episode itself, it was indeed a bit slow, but I think it was in a way necessary. It sure has a didactic air to it, and maybe it's for the best.

So, lots of orchestral and classical music, feels rather cinematic. I'm hoping we get a bit more creativity, but everything's rather decent.

Nothing really made me think "I need that track" though, except for the Tokyo Konsei/Kasahara track at the end. The strings were really warm and powerful.

Yeah, the summoning scene was epic with the bgm. I got goosebumps.

Uhh...from Ninetales' comment..I doubt that I will watch this anime.. I haven't watched Fate Stay Night before (and I don't think I'd have enough time to watch it to get enough background for watching this one...) But the OST sounds so interesting....Eri&Yuri&Tokyo Konsei... :shy: .

Fate/Zero is not continuation but Prequel, which means that they are events before Fate Stay/Night, so you can watch it without watching Fate Stay/Night first ^^

Yeah, the first episode gives a lot of information to understand about it. I could understand it having almost no experience with the story.

Ahhhh~ I was very happy the first episode was up for stream yesterday! :shy: Let another epic ufotable creation come to life! ^___^ I'm excited for the next episode! From the informative dialogue at the beginning to the epic summonings at the end, I already love Fate/Zero!

It's also good to watch fate/Zero first, since Fate/Stay Night has a couple of flashbacks too. After reading the posts here, I'm more excited to watch Fate/Zero now.

Going to watch the rest of it hopefully soon, since I only saw about 20 mins of it since it did not load all the way. (Stupid internet connection heh) But I am liking the music so far. The pretty violin song in the very begnning and the piano one, and the one where Waver (his name is so silly lol) was researching. It is interesting so far, I can't wait to hear the song at the end, and more music later on. There's going to be 26 episodes or 24? I forget. :dote:

My Anime List says 25! :ohoho: Ahahahaha... it's so rare to see anime past 12-13 episodes these days~ Excited that Fate/Zero has 25 epis! >w<

I love love love the OP after all. The song fit so well with the animation, and I'll take a superbly animated opening with a "generic" song over a great song with animation that does not go with it any day.

:tea:

Funny enough, the song may "match" the OP-animation sequence but is completely out of place in the tv series. Especially when played right after the final scene.
And although the animation per se is good, the scenes themselves are also extremely generic. If TVTropes has an article about anime OP, they should just use F/Z's as the perfect example.

Out of place? Personal preference maybe, but I loved how they ended the first episode with the opening and the way it faded out to the instrumental version of the second verse and the credits started rolling.
Sure, no-one said it was the most ground-breaking opening sequence ever, but I think it did its job well. Anyway, I've been burned too much by epic songs that are not used well *cough*Artonelico*cough*, so I guess I was glad that this one felt good enough.

As an aside, my experience with Kalafina songs so far tells me that a Kalafina song wouldn't fit as an OP here. As an ED or an insert song sure, but not as an opening. (Which really makes me wonder why the ED is not by Kalafina. When the composer for the show was announced, I was almost convinced that the ED would be by Kalafina. Oh well, this is why we can't have nice things.)

EDIT: Thinking about it, I am watching this as a Fate/stay night fan when most of you are watching this as Yuki fans, so I guess it can't be helped. ^^;
