What I mean in D.U is not Hikaru's louder voice, it's Keiko :) But if you means her nasally voice like in 'in your eyes', yeah, I'm totally irritated by her voice there, it's too...ear-pinching. I agree that D.U is not really hard to sing, because the melody is quite flat, and I agree with the point KP-X said about Hikaru sing the "yuku no" and how she able to hold it to the end. When I sing D.U, I have to end in "yuku",then take a breath to hold the "no"...It just like in D.U, after the pointless head-bang, Hikaru is obviously too tired when sing the "jibun no kizu naraba, etc.." but when she didn't do the choreography and take a little rest in the kajiuran part, she was able to sing the final 2 stanzas well.

I was just talking about Hikaru's voice in general, not in D.U. But that's not an important point :ohoho:

You're probably right about the headbanging, but I haven't seen the performance enough to judge. Sometimes it's tough to tell whether they're out of breath, because their voices are edited no matter what. It's easiest to tell with Wakana, because she really shows it on her face when she's struggling.

I think it's quite obvious, because in "jibun no kizu naraba.." etc she takes another breath in some parts where in recording version, she could pull it off in one breath. But dunno, maybe it's just me :XD:

About Wakana's face.. yeah. I'm almost crying when I see Wakana's struggling face when she sang magnolia (yagate sanzameku sekai ni... part), and how she had a relief look when her part ends with the "iru yo.."

^ Oh, I'm sure you're right. I just have to watch it more! I've only seen the DVD twice, even though I love almost all of it.

Same here...it bothers me, since she looks like she's almost in pain sometimes. I keep expecting her voice to give out :uh..:

Well, I pay attention to Magnolia because that's the only song from the live that I keep on playing on repeat. LOL. About D.U, it just quite obvious for me from the first time I watched it :XD:

OOT : My friend make a FB status about love come down and I can't hear the song without imagining a thing.

Something has to be wrong with her, she looked pretty fine throughout most of the Red Moon concert except for one or two songs :uh..:

They really need to let her rest!

P.S. are you sure she wasn't just getting into the music and being Hiichan-style super angsty? :touched:

^
Nope. It's not super angsty. It's like she was in pain. Magnolia isn't a much of angsty song after all, for me. Just watched the part I mentioned when you have your DVD, Cerise :)

Watching Wakana's neck veins bugging out whenever she strained... it's genuinely unsettling. >__<

This live also made me realize Kalafina seriously needs a fourth vocalist, if Yuki continues to compose material for them that requires more than three singers. Yuriko and Yuki sing chorus on a lot of After Eden tracks, so to me the live arrangements sounded empty/strange because the extra vocals were pre-recorded or omitted. And I wonder why Keiko's harmonies with herself are never included in lives, even as pre-recordings.

Agree that it's a shame Maya left...I think I said this before in some other thread, but FJ lives seem to be much kinder to both Wakana and Keiko's voices because there are four singers rather than three, but that extra singer just makes all the difference. Also especially because even though they're both mezzos, I think Hikaru has a wider gap between her voice and Wakana's than Kaori and Wakana. In Kalafina, Hikaru can share some of the lower notes with Keiko, but it's hard for her to share as many of Wakana's parts because they're often too high for her to sing without getting sharp. Kaori, however, I've noticed is much better suited to sharing lines that are in Wakana's sort of range...so in FictionJunction she can help alleviate if Wakana gets too tired. Similarly, Kaori can also go low so she can team up with Keiko too. And then there's the amazingly versatile Yuriko who can sing both high and low.

Overall, FictionJunction seems to be much better positioned to have singing parts split more evenly so that the singers don't have to overwork because there isn't anyone else who can take the part. In FJ, if it's too much for one singer too handle, there's definitely another girl who can 'sub' in for her. That's not always true for Kalafina, especially for some of Wakana's lines...the closest substitue is Hikaru and she isn't always able to manage that since she seems to lean more towards alto, unlike Kaori, whose voice can extend higher more easily...

Hmm...Kaori as the fourth Kalafina girl.... :ayashii:

Man, no! I'm always terrified whenever I imagine Kaori dressed up in Kalafina's fashion. :XD:

Re:

@K Do not want! >__< I'd want an outsider of the FJ family for a fourth vocalist. Kala already has 2 FJ members and an unofficial one, no need for FJ ~Sony Remix~.

@Cerise

I mostly agree with you about FJ. But FJ is still too "top heavy" for my liking, since Wakana can swap out with Yuriko or Kaori. Kaori's range is commendable, but I find some of her lower notes a bit ugly and sometimes unstable. At any rate, she sounds comfortable singing higher.

You do bring up a good point about there being a gap between Wakana and Hikaru. Sadly, that gap seems to be getting more obvious because of Wakana's recent difficulties. But I do think Hikaru deserves some credit, she sings Wakana-range stuff in Kizuato live/Hikari no Senritsu/oblivious. (And like I mentioned, her oblivious "ahhh"s are better than Wakana's... although that shouldn't be happening. xD;)

I prefer Kalafina's 4 man combo because they were more balanced, singer-wise. Based on what little we've heard of her, Maya was a mezzo with a strong lower range. I think that's why pairing off Hikaru&Maya and Wakana&Keiko worked so well.

Yeah TdT If we take a detour into Winter's Little Dreamland, I'd love to hear Maya singing Magia's bridge with Keiko on low harmony, maybe even vice versa. +100000000000 if they do it well live, I'd just nosebleed and die on the spot :ohoho:

well, if you've seen her dresses in sound horizon performances, there are SOME similarities :plot:

Actually, I think in sprinter it was Hikaru+Keiko, Wakana+Maya, wasn't it? :ayashii:

If Kala ever gets a new member (which I don't think they will cos they've been a trio for so long now...), I hope that either Maya comes back (though that might be awkward lol) or a similar vocalist in range+quality joins...don't really want Haruna Luna...sorry...:spotlight:

Re:

Sprinter was a mix, everyone got paired with everyone else at some point. :XD:
