Kalafina 18th single "One Light" for Arslan Senki [confirmed]

I think Hikaru is decent at emoting, she just has no control in the song period. Might be just me, but I used to think her singing was very jarring and then she improved a lot. She still has some issues (as we've seen recently), but overall she is a much better singer than she was in Kalafina's early days imo. I hope she gets over this hump, whatever it is.


… and I hate to admit this but Samidare actually grew on me, much to my surprise. I let my iTunes autoplay and it wasn't as bad as the first time I listened to it.

Apparently she got a cold around Budokan:comeback:. If it's anything like when Wakana got the flu then we might have to wait a few months because Wakana's had some lasting effects till around budokan. (Examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4bvhNnZKNQ , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u200_1z6JQU ) But I think every singer has some off performances, it's only natural.
 
If it was a cold them I'm relieved. Because it means it's reversible. Even though I'm a Hikarufan through and through and I loved her even when she was rather rough around the edges, I would agree that in general, she's the most improved out of the utahimes (this might be because Yuriko Kaida is already top tier since forever, Keiko has always been very stable, Wakana has had a... particular progression over time with her vocal technique and Kaori has also been good from the start imo). At first she was kind of shouty and lacking in control, and over time she got much better. Consolation and After Eden were great Hikaru lives imo.

I remember reading the Budokan thread after I pre-ordered, someone mentioned Hikaru's cold there. As for Wakana's cold... It might have been a YT comment. I read those a lot. Otherwise probably here somewhere. I don't remember
 
Ooh, I wasn't specifically referring to Budokan when I referred to issues (worded my post poorly) but I meant she tends to be flat or off more so than the other girls. I know Wakana has trouble sometimes too, but I guess it's more noticeable for Hikaru because of the way her voice is. However, when she brings her A-game she is great. Singing with a cold is so bad for your throat though, I hope the girls take care to not catch one especially with all the singing they have to do lately.
 
it was never mentioned that hikaru had a cold during budokan lives. iirc the person who mentioned it say Hikaru's bad vocal is probably caused by her having cold - which means he/she wasn't sure. imo it's just excuse excuse excuse. as a professional singer they should know how to keep their health and even if they were sick it's not an acceptable excuse either for they're professionals. a lot of singers have performed when they were sick yet they still sound fine. as in Hikaru's budokan case, i don't think having cold was the case. it's her singing technique that were horrible. she (probably) hit those notes but her voice came out sounding unpleasant. imo it's the result of her keep using her lower register but doesn't train her higher register anymore. it could also be caused by her trying to change her singing technique so that her voice doesn't sound as nasal as it used to be but hasn't mastered it yet. in budokan lives she held back her voice on the back of her head, a habit she developed since 2014. i don't know why she did that because it makes her voice doesn't come as "free" as it'll normally do.

when wakana had cold (it was confirmed in the aniuta kitakyushuu 2010) she sounded horrible as in falling off key and not hitting the notes but her singing technique was fine.
 
Umm... I've no idea if Hikaru was indeed sick (frankly I dont care) but being randomly sick is an excuse IMHO. It just happens, no matter how well you try to stay healthy. Does that make her performance any better? Of course not.
It's unfortunate.
She's just one of a fuckton of people involved in Kalafina lives and I doubt cancelling (and possibly paying a fine for breaking a contract) was an option.
 
Yeah I noticed people like to make excuses a lot when it comes to their fav singers performing poorly. I think she sounded fine in After Eden live where her voice was also less nasally so I think the lower register usage theory is accurate. Honesty I would be happy if they stopped singing Aria altogether... but we will see what happens next time.

Wow, I never knew these things, Poor Hikaru! I know she'll strive to improve I believe she cares about Kalafina plus Hikaru hasn't had as much experience singing professionally so I guess we'll just have to watch, wait and see. I'll stop making excuses (since I do love Hikaru and that's all I'll do, I don't want to start a fan war). Hikaru is probably just trying to express the emotions of the song in a less nasally way and as mentioned before is probably still experimenting with it, no one picks stuff up instantly. They might be professionals but they're still people, we're all equal. Also when was the last performance of Aria excluding Budokan? The only one i can find is from JBC hall that that was heavenly. Honestly Hikaru is the most diverse of all the three having many diffrent kinds of output when she sings depending on the emotion. She's kinda like a jack of all trades master of none, but I can only hope she'll get better. Hikaru would use every performance as a learning experience, she and the rest of Kalafina care a lot. The problem with budokan is also it's size. the area is huge so she probable tried to sing louder so she'd be heard (however she may not have done that too well) Budokan's size is also why the Kaladansu was ridiculous, so everyone could see it.

Hikaru doesn't need to try to sing loud because her singing voice is naturally loud and louder than the other two lol. She hasn't really been nasally in a while unless she does it on purpose so it's not an issue… and yeah her voice does sound kind of stuck now. She has the worst singing habits out of the three imo, so if she fixes them she should (hopefully) sound a lot better. Don't get me wrong, I think Hikaru is a fundamental part of Kalafina with her raw talent and is very capable of catching up to Keiko and Wakana, but she just has a lot of noticeably not so good days when singing live. But yeah, I'll stop here too. I'm not trying to fight just putting in my two cents.

In the TYPE-MOON Fes. -10TH ANNIVERSARY? That was AWESOME, but I love the song, so I'm not objective here. Same reason why I won't comment about Hikaru, plus I have said what I think in the Budokan thread.

So we should essentially expect Kalafina to have superhuman immunity from all diseases since they are "professional singers" although there is no cure for the common cold??Also, just because one artist can perform through a cold/illness/etc doesn't mean it affects everyone the same way. Maybe she had an off day and performed below expectations vocally. So what??? Kalafina are not vocaloids...there will be days where they sound flat as f**k or nasally or screechy or whatever you want to call it.

Its BUDOKAN!!! Only one of the biggest performances of their career..maybe she was nervous as hell?! Maybe she was intimidated by learning the dance steps/ hand movements, remembering song lyrics, where to stand during a song..I mean who knows unless we ask her. And quite frankly why does it matter??? The damage is done...to some of us anyway. I enjoyed the lives and I purchased both the blu-rays. If you don't want to show support then that is cool you do you boo.

I like it when artists sound flat, forget lyrics, etc...it proves to me that they are human and make mistakes. I want to feel a connection to who they are not just their voices on a recording. Every live performance is an individual once in a lifetime reflection of a song they recorded in studio. No two will ever be the same and that is what makes it so exciting to watch and listen to these performances.

And no offense but you sir? are a shit-stirrer so I think you'll be around the drama in this forum regardless.
