Finally have both OST 2 and 3 picked up from the post office and ripped (freedb.org didn't have them listed so I had to copy and paste the album and track titles from amazon.co.jp).

Starting to listen to OST 2 now.

So do we not need scans then? I can do them if aki did not, but it seems like she did.

This is the song that I said sounded like 'I Found a Small Light,' it's from Kingdom of Heaven, music by Henry Gregson-Williams. There are some differences of course, but I thought they just sound similar:

here's my belated review:

01 My Long Story: a beautiful version of the main theme.
02 Haha ni Naru Yorokobi: very relaxing but the beginning and end seem a bit redundant.
03 Chiisana Hiroi Sekai: lovely Celtic track:)
04 Onna no Kokoro: miss Yuriko's main roles in Noir.. while I like this track, HtA is just not the ost for vocals.
05 A Place to Be & 06 Fly, Little Dreams & 19 Akaruku Ikeba : these three tracks, albeit simple and joyful, show how skillful Kajiura can be in orchestral music in its entirety (choice of instruments, arrangement)
07 Watashi Dake no Jikan: while it looks like a simple piano strings track from Kajiura, the subtle horn and cello make it lovely. Listen to it focusing on the cello and horn, it becomes another listen I think. (no horn/cello for 07 in the credits?) Am I hallucinating? haha
08 Shuu Kazu no Ryuugi & 09 Shiitage Rarete: a little bland. but it's still relaxing if ost is listened as a whole.
10 Sasurai no wo Tou & 14 It Happens Sometimes : love this style. sounds like sth from older days. love the guitar.
11 Mayoi no Hate ni & 26 Yurayura to : hmm madoka style. doesn't bother me though.
12 Korogari Hajimeta Unmei: the WAR theme! love it. the horn was an excellent choice. the only problem is that it has to be longer.
13 Taisen he no Michi: again madoka style. worked well in the show but it's way too simple to count as a track on its own.
15 Tonchinkanna Hito & 30 Naku Shita Mono : silly/bland.
16 Kimi to Hitotsu no Yume wo: lovely oboe and trumpet. love this track.
17 Mou Hitotsu no Hoshi: one of those hope-evoking tracks.
18 Ugokidasu Unmei: Kajiura knows how to set the mood!
20 Aruki Dasou: like it. though it's longer than it should be imo.
21 I Found a Small Light: Eiji Returns! gorgeous track.
22 Mamoruba Kimono: it's good but parts are redundant.
23 Sparta Kyouiku!: this ost's "silly" tracks are not that bad (compared to SAO's they are masterpieces). i'm esp. a sucker for the Arabian-style strings so I like this one albeit too short.
24 Tomoni Sugosu Jikan: lovely oboe. so relaxing. credits are again incomplete.
25 Sonomichi no Mukou ni wa: love the way the strings make a comeback at the end (bc I thought it would end with piano)
27 Odayakana Hibi e: love the dulcimer! another lovely relaxing track
28 Mou Aenai Hito: Earthquake! i'm a sucker for these tracks so I love it.
29 Fumishimete Yuku: madokaish. violin is nice but not as good as the rest.
31 Next Story: nice, slow ver of the main theme.
32 Kimi to Hitotsu no Yume wo #2: lovely. dare i say it, it's almost as good as hepatica#2 (hepatica#2 with its strings wins tho). HtA's piano only tracks don't bother me at all unlike other recent osts.
33 Yukidoke: madokaish. not bad.
34 Mirai wo Hiraite: loveeeee it. trumpet was an excellent choice.
35 Honno Sekai: really nice ambient/piano track.

tl;dr: Hanako to Anne is a success. Same as others, I love ost1 more. Coming back to sora's issue about tracks being beautiful but bgms, it's true for ost3 as well. Some tracks are utter joy but short. However, these osts are just another proof for those who think Kajiura is not fit for orchestral music. So there.

By the way, forgot to say that I finished watching the show last weekend. Though it did air pretty much all year long, I wish it were longer ;__; When sensei found out I liked HtA she said I should watch the currently airing Asadora, and I very well might.

Now I just need to meet up with a certain friend of mine, who may or may not have picked up something for me when she was in Japan...

Thanks for posting your review. I'm still sorting out my feelings about this soundtrack but they are positive. I hate to ask, but in that last line are you saying that this soundtrack is proof that Kajiura isn't a fit for orchestral scores?

on the contrary. some people think Kajiura is not capable of writing orchestral scores. it's proof against that thought.

look what came in the mail today!

it's falling apart so I'm going to have to try to fix it up a bit, but I'm looking forward to reading it : )

old book smell = love
also I just love old things

I've always tried to find the oldest copies I can when buying books. The oldest one I have is a Shakespeare play (Caesar, maybe?) from 1898. All my Sherlock Holmes books are from pre-1920

was listening to el cazador musics today and thought that unreleased 8 sounded similar to taisen he no michi... anyone else think so?

Finally was able to see my friend this weekend, who got this for me the last time she went to Japan

what does it matter that I can't even read it now
one day...

the past two days I've been listening to OST 3 a lot. Just now when chiisana hiroi sekai came one I first mistook it as another episode from the Rebellion OST. They do sound very similar, now that I play them back to back

That one also reminds me of sis puella magica. Tbh, there are a quite a few madoka-esque tracks on this volume. Not a bad thing mind you, but the similarities are there.
