Highlights for me were the 4 hack songs. (forgive me for butchering the series title. The mobile keyboards don't play nice with full stops)
There were quite a number of songs that I heard for the first time, live. Needless to say I enjoyed myself very much. Was only disappointed that I couldn't listen to nohara and sayonara solitaire.
Yuriko got to sing here we stand in the morning dew and himitsu and she was flawless.
Wakana got a few songs too with mizu no akashi, storm and gin no hashi to name a few.
I'll be honest and say I was slightly sad about the quality of wakana's voice. It has changed. I won't say whether it's for better or for worse. Some will like it, some will miss the old one (based on the complaints I'd say most here would fall in the latter). A friend of mine said this change actually made her cover of tasogare better. It is most noticeable when she sings mizu no akashi. She was smooth, but her pitch was higher.
So yeah. They covered 3 more of the hack songs. Tasogare no umi, kioku, edge.
The first of the hack songs performed was tasogare no umi. I was pleasantly surprised and at the same time, my hype levels shot up at once. The song opened with all of them singing together. Not sure if it excluded yuriko but the other three, at least, sang the opening "tasogare no umi ni~" etc. What an impact. Then kaori solos for a bit before switching over to Wakana for the next verse. I can't remember with confidence who sang the chorus but I think it's kaori. I liked the cover. It's not as "enka-ish" as Ishikawa but the feel is still there.
(I can't remember the order exactly)
Kioku! Kioku starts with Keiko. Oh my god of course it should be keiko. Before actually having listened to the cover, I couldn't really think of anyone who could do it the way Ishikawa did. But keiko! It's not the exaxt same feel but it suits her. Why didn't I imagine her in that part?! So dark. So awesome. Don't know how it was possible but my excitement went up a bit more. Wakana did the chorus. It's different from the original but that's the whole point of covers, isn't it? If I wanted it to be the same as the original, I might as well just listen to the original. And I still like the originals very much too.
Kimi ga ita monogatari. The song has evolved. No longer does the violin have any distortion. It's a regular violin now and it's that much more enjoyable to me. I hated what they did to the violin in vol 11. I liked the way Kaori sang it this time a lot more too. She sang it regularly, no weird... I dunno how to describe that thing in vol 11, but you know what I mean.
After this, they cut to an mc. What? No edge? So I was actually kind of disappointed since they've already done 2 of the 4 remaining (obsession aside).
So when the newly arranged intro played during the opening to the encore, I thought... Could it be?! It's new, and it didn't sound like it could fit the other songs that I know from FJ. It sounded like what an intro to edge could be. It was upbeat enough to for the crowd to clap along to. So when they started singing and I noticed it was edge, I couldn't help but give a little shout. Now this is where my excitement shot through the roof. F*** YES (pardon the language. I didn't really say the f word but the sentiment was there). I.. Can't remember who sang what here. Sorry. Memory is starting to get a little fuzzy. Must be all the blood rushing to my head for that part. I do recall keiko having quite a part? Either someone else will confirm or I will when I listen to it again this weekend. It was good. I must say, this bunch of covers must be my favourites out of the various see-saw covers. Obviously they rocked it during the bridge.
(edit: keiko was main for edge I think. It was really really cool)
The feedback form asked which singer or musician I wanted to see as a guest in future lives. I didn't list any singers. For as much as I love the guest singers, I have come to notice that usually the parts I enjoy most are for when the 4 of them are together. I listed strings, though. And as sort of long shot, I put a full Orchestra too. I mean, why not? Lol
The live was not without problems though. It's not the fault of the girls. At the start, I found kaori a little soft. I think they adjusted the mic after a song or two? The band is loud. When the band goes full blast and all 4 girls sing at full power, my ears can't take it. It's a must to have concert ear plugs on. The other problem is that someone tends to get drowned out when everything goes full blast. Wakana was kinda loud, for example. Did they mess up the mic volumes at certain parts? Kaori definitely has the volume (voice) but at certain points I just couldn't hear her.
That's all for now. More when I actually get to see the set list. Maybe. Probably not though. There's 5 more concerts and I need my stamina.
Edit: I'm sure someone else will post the set list. I can't remember everything and I tend to not take notes.
Oh yeah. They have yet to cover a thousand and one nights. I suppose that would be a kaori song if they do it.
