At the risk of waking up late and standing my fellow concert going mates from Singapore up a second time, here's my report of sorts. Oh look. There's a set list. That's going to bring back a lot of memories and make for a long report...
Highlights for me today were the Knk songs, I miss you, Pandora medley, cynical world and heigen.
I would list I swear amongst them but I didn't like how keiko sang it this time. Well, not as much as the one in vol 9. Her enunciation is slightly better, but she's kinda trying a little too hard. I actually think this new way of singing is a result of her wanting to pronounce certain parts better. She didn't go as deep at times? I'm not sure how to say this. Occasionally she would go back as low as vol 9 and it would remind me how much better the whole song would sound if she maintained it. It's a personal preference though. By no means am I suggesting that she sang horribly. It's just different from what I wanted to hear. Keiko also messed up the the lyrics a bit. Just one line. Instead of "so I'll smile, and then kiss you" it was "so I'll smile" and then she sang something about memories. Oops! Listening to vol 9 now, I think that's kaori's line isn't it? She maintained the melody so it wasn't too jarring and was still a pretty good performance.
On the other hand, cynical world was awesome. Oh my god I am sorry I forgot to list it in my top 6 in the feedback. So that's the song I forgot.
The Knk songs were probably one of my most wanted songs. M07 was hauntingly pretty. It's a shame that it's so short. I thought the same for the song in the ost and I still felt the same at the live. Kajiura said it was written for the cm trailer (why does her trailer songs always sound so awesome? *coughmaihimecough*). I think kaori led the vocals while yuriko did the obscenely high parts. Keiko backed occasionally. I can't remember wakana's part exactly. I guess she was a part of the highs.
The KnK medley should be the same as vol 7? It starts with in the garden of sinners, climaxes with one part from paradigm before going back to in the garden of sinners.
I miss you was very beautiful. I'm sorry I said I didn't want guests yesterday. Lol. Please come again. Hanae is oh so smooth. It's not my first time hearing her live but she always manages to wow me. I miss you was performed by Hanae and yuriko kaida. There was a bit of guitar, violins, flute and piano. As a madoka magica fan (and a major kyouko fan), I was really happy to have been able to hear it. It's probably one of my favourites from the movie compilation osts.
Lotus kind of took me by surprise when it started without the violin part. It just went to Hanae not long after. I guess it's because it's not played with the extended intro. Needless to say, smooth as butter. I enjoyed Keiko backing her very much as well (I'm kinda biased towards keiko and wakana, if you haven't noticed by now).
Absolute configuration. My second time listening to it live and it was every bit as cool as the first time. I do kinda wish that she would do more songs from Rebellion like I was waiting for this moment. I suppose she could do some of the non vocal songs for soundtrack day.
It was also nice to finally be able to hear the live flute for in my long forgotten cloistered sleep. I honestly don't have much to say for this song and everytime you kissed me because it was just business as usual. Nothing too different from what we already have in vol 9 (read: as good as usual). I don't really have much to complain about since they're all singing really well. I can only say that they're all awesome so many times so I'm gonna save those for the extra extraordinary moments.
Rainbow main theme. Remi is an amazing singer. She didn't have any trouble hitting her notes at all and her voice was stable all the way. It was the same for Kajifes. It's times like this that I am reminded of the high notes she hits regularly in the Sound Horizon songs she sings. She had her hair up this time. I liked her better with her hair down in Kajifes.
Since I don't watch SAO, I don't know this M15. It didn't leave much of an impression on me today either. I kinda started zoning out a bit (imsorryimsorryimsorry). I do remember kaori being on stage with her. Those two have known each other since their time together on SH so they must have been glad to be able to perform together under kajiura this time.
For mezame, my favourite part was and will always be the part when only wakana and keiko sing together. My bias is showing, yes. Bite me. Hanae's opening had a lot of echo. Lol. Maybe just a little too much.
Another SAO song. I'm not familiar with she has to overcome her fear. Sadly, the only SAO songs I know are the first two in the set list.
Zodiacal sign. I was on the second floor today so most people remained seated. I shamelessly stood up. I'm not going home without doing the Zodiacal sign hand stuff... thingy... at least once! (keiko being the one who came up with it has nothing to do with it. Honest) The song came at a weird time imo. Usually it'd be right after or right before the encore. So when it cut to a regular mc after that instead of them leaving the stage for encore, I was kind of confused. Moreover, they continued with heigen and maybe tomorrow, ending the live on a quiet note as opposed to a high energy ending. Encore still started off high though, like it should.
In the mc, Kajiura told us about her favourite non Japanese word, which is today's topic for the musicians (the singers were asked about what they pay special attention to when singing non Japanese songs or what they like about it). Non-japanese can be anything, even kajiurago. Kajiura says that the words she uses to name the titles of the songs she writes are all generally all words she likes very much. Her favourite for today however, is heigen. For heigen, she actually agonised over what to name it. Since its kajiurago, she has a lot of freedom to name it and she thinks it's really fun, which is the same for the osts. Like she said before, kajiurago lets you form your own image of it freely since none of the words have any actual meaning. She thought that a title written in Japanese wouldn't fit, but she wanted a word that expressed the vastness of a field or a plain. But none of those English words really fit the song well. The word that fit the most was the Japanese word, "Heigen", which includes the meaning of the vast plains. So she romanised the word and used it as the title.
It was my first time listening to heigen live. The live album had me very excited for this song so hearing it live in person myself was quite a treat. I'll say it for this song. It was amazing. Makes me want to send the guests away again. :x FJ ftw! Well.. A guest that doesn't take too much away is fine. I do need my dose of FJ.
Maybe tomorrow was as good as usual. We went into encore time after that. It didn't take long for them to come back on stage with a familiar intro. It was the same as the one from the second live album for crush. We're getting the Pandora hearts medley in the encore?! Omg Yay! And this time, it's just FJ! I liked the FJ only version a lot. Wakana got the first solo, yuriko got the second while keiko kept hers in contractor.
Kajiura explained after that, that the Pandora hearts manga had just concluded a short while back. Having involved herself with the series via the anime, she read the original to get a better understanding and has been an avid reader since, buying each volume as it came out. When the last chapter was serialised though, she couldn't wait for the tanks to be released and bought all the magazines it was serialised in so she could read it immediately. It's also why she wanted to perform this medley this time, these songs that were written for Pandora hearts.
She then thanked the crowd in a different way, yet again, about how each of us helped make the live sound the way it did today. She says it every time, but she always finds a different way to say it. We then ended the day with paradise regained.
And yes, SAO M15 was untitled because it hasn't been released on Cd yet. Remi song.
Tomorrow, soundtrack day. I think I have a good seat for this. It's a shame we're not getting the strings quartet here. I am hoping for a surprise guest!

I think it's the album version, pace wise. I don't think she did any particular arrangements for the three new covers that deviated much. What interests me about those dotHack covers is if Kioku was the album version, a long "liminality" version or something completely new.
