Waiting for Kalafina 2nd album, Red Moon

maybe the environment really affects their performances.

Lives often sound worse recorded than the real thing. Anyway, i've seen them live twice and there was nothing to complain about, on the contrary. Wakana and even more Hikaru managed to surprise me with how well they sang (I considered Hikaru to be kind of a poor singer). In fact a lot of their songs had much more power live than on CD. The instruments and also their singing, f.ex. love come down impressed me so much live, that I was kinda disappointed with the CD version afterwards. Seemed so plain compared to the live version xD

My CD has also arrived. Kinda feels a bit low quality though. The cover has already been mentioned, looks kinda amateur-ish and pixel-ish oO At least for the cover they could have used a better resolution (or a better printer?) ... or is it on purpose o.o;;

The DVD gets recognised as an Audio CD on my PC >< And impossible to read what's printed on it.
The bonus booklet is so-so. I'm not a fan of their "serious faces"-posing, especially since it's completely different from how they normally act and it makes the pictures all look alike.
The real booklet with lyrics is also like the cover.
But well, what counts is the CD itself. I'm quite happy with it for now, of course I would have liked even more new songs XD

Did I hear right when they were in the elevator and I think it was Wakana who said something about being afraid of elevators? or was that something else?

I think she just said that she is extremely nervous (because they were going to perform live).

The booklet has special thanks to Anime Boston staff and visitors and they said they would definitely like to come again.

Hikaru's english isn't so bad. It seems she had an english skype friend (this was said on 2ch - so no guarantee for truth), but you can tell she pronounces better than your average japanese person ^^;

i'll be jealous of envy her skype friend if this is true

I can now die without regrets, having listened to Red Moon (that is, until Kajiura-sama comes out with another song). Review time for meh!

Red Moon - eeeepiiiiiiic! Everything I could EVER want in a song. Seriously, Red Moon fulfills all of the things I enjoy most in a song: a haunting melody, beautiful orchestra , passionate chorus, and a gothic victorian/medieval feel similar to Lacrimosa.

Te To Te To Me To Me - I loved Keiko's voice in this, but that's about it for me when it comes to this song. I'm probably a little biased because I prefer Kajiura's gothic victorian and eastern european-themed songs. I just can't get too excited over arabian tunes.

Fantasia - LOVE! Sure, I might not like much techno in Kajiura-sama's songs, but this has alot of energy and operatic undertones which I love. It's a bit weird when it gets to the chorus though, it sounds a little disjointed.

Haru wa Ougon no Yume no Naka - Sapphire's much prettier, IMO, but Haru does have a nice orchestra. Still, I don't really feel anything for this song, it's not sung with the sorrow or powerful emotions that Gloria and Sapphire have.

Kyrie - Not as catchy as Fantasia, but still great. It's more haunting, which I like.

Yami no Uta - Amazing intro, one of my favorites. Keiko sings with such drama, and the orchestra makes the song sound like it's apart of a Phantom of the Opera-like musical.
:dote:

Hoshi no Utai - Flute is unusual, reminiscent of El Cazador. I like the verses, but not so much the chorus. It gets points because the girls' voices are powerful and you can hear alot of emotion.

intermezzo - The melody is nice, but it's a little annoying just because it sounds like they're trying too hard to sound little-girl and moe-ish.

I have a dream - After hearing that Eve no Jikan trailer, I was sorta disappointed. The song is too simple for my liking, all you hear is a little guitar, and then barely any of the flute that I was looking forward to.

Finished listening to the album for about the second time. :ohoho: Here is my comments on the songs exempt Lacrimosa, storia, progressive, and Hikari no Senritsu. But as usual, those ones are lovely to hear as always. :dote:

red moon - One of my favourites on the album. Symphonic and the instrumentals are beautiful to match the singing voices and chanting. :sohappy:

Te to Te to Me to Me - Fell in love with it. I really liked the Middle-Eastern feel to it. Different from most of Kalafina's other songs, but good.

fantasia - From reading the lyrics I think for part of the song they're singing about a fairy tale story. When I heard the beginning part I was surprised when for part of the song sounds so much different.

Haru wa Ougon no Yume no Naka - Nice, soft and peaceful melody.
The sound reminded me a bit of seventh heaven for some reason.

Kyrie - :nosebleed:

Yami no Uta - Really loved this one. :dote: It has a bit of a Middle-Eastern flair to it like Te to Te to Me to Me, maybe not as much?

Hoshi no Utai - Enjoyed it very much, their chanting is incredibly powerful.

intermezzo - Very lullaby-ish.

I have a dream - A nice song to close off the album. Not as upbeat as some of the other songs, but it's fitting for a song called 'I have a dream'. :3

btw, that song is called Haru ha kogane no Yume no naka ...

but seems like most people agree that it's the weakest/least impressive song on the album? I feel that the B-sides of the singles were much better and would have deserved a place on the album instead ...

just noticed that with the limited edition when you look at the box they are looking away and then when you pull out the cd they're looking at you! ooooo (yes, i'm amused easily) :shy:

was it me or did I hear a dulcimer instrument in the live and not in the actual version?

If you're referring to the instrument played during the bridge, it's still there but pretty much drowned out by the electric guitar (...which I kinda wish wasn't there as it really changes the mood of the song).

too bad it didnt had more greek I wanted to translate some :(

Well, I guess they COULD use Kyrie Eleison 40 times in a row, like in some prayers... would that count? :plot: :XD:

i thought at one point I heard the word chocolate, but I looked in the book and it wasn't there. It also reminds me of the Noir soundtrack a lot.

I could swear I heard "chocolate", too.
Does the booklet have any hints on that "harekri-or-something-like-that" part?
Now that you mention it, it really has some reminiscence of some quiet Noir tracks, like Secret Game.

I've listened to it a few more times now and I know she sings chocolate, but maybe they just didn't write it in english or something. And I was wondering about the harekri thing too. I like it though. :XD: Can't wait to get home and listen to them over and over. hehe

Harlequin and Chocolate and Intermezzo and Story in katakana.

I like all the new songs except for Haru ha kogane no Yume no naka :uh..: I agree that it's the least impressive song.
But Red moon is just.. EPIC :nosebleed: I love this song so much :shy:

Finally watched the Kalafina Note... some cute stuff there. Gloria's rehearsal clip seemed okay, love come down rehearsal clip and the actual live performances weren't that great (Wakana's inability to hold that last note of the Lacrimosa chorus made me giggle). Sure was a static audience, too. :P

I'm waiting until my CD comes before I watch the Kalafina Note.
But I know that once I watch it, I'm just going to feel great remorse for not visiting them last May. *stabs self to death upon watching "Kalafina Note"*.
