Kalafina at AFA '11
Hello everyone,
newcomerlong-time forum stalker here.
Was present at AFA yesterday, and gotta say it's one of the most awesome concert ever (not helped by the fact that the diva trio was there!).
Below is a (rather long) summary (of what I happened to observe when I didn't go crazy with the concert) of what happened to Kalafina during AFA '11:
Their entrance sent everyone scrambling to stand up (I was at the standing side, not sure what happened on the front side
) with a mysterious fog (I thought that was epicly suitable for Kalafina
) plus angelic Kajiuran chants in the background. The audience basically cheered the whole hall up as they finally appeared on stage.
Their first song was Magia which, I believe, had a slightly different arrangement for the opening (wondered if anyone else who attended had the same feeling). Their performance was excellent (Hikaru
, Keiko's bridge
). I'm not sure if anybody noticed or if it was just me, but the downside was probably the music's volume was rather low. Other than that,
.
Immediately after Magia, they went straight on to - a surprise song for me - Oblivious! I never anticipated this song (was anticipating Sprinter instead), so it was really, really good. This one was really epic, especially Wakana's Kajiurago
. I was shouting Oblivious (plus a light-stick pumping) whenever it reaches there~
After Oblivious, it was an intermission. Wakana introduced themselves - beginning with herself (
), then Keiko in her non-singing voice (
) [seriously, she really sounds different!], and Hikaru [in excellent English!] (
). They basically reiterated what songs they performed before (Magia for Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica and Oblivious for Kara no Kyoukai's first episode). Keiko then announced the next song they're going to perform: Kagayaku Sora no Shijima ni wa.
To be short, it was breathtakingly beautiful. I was singing along with whoever else was singing (think some of the audience knows the song as well). Cheers went up during Kajiurago bridge (and especially during Keiko's epic part!
). The emotions were brought out really well during this song (well, it would have been in stark contrast with the theme this year of "Rock Your Soul", but I didn't mind it at all).
And next up is
another surprise song for me - Lacrimosa! I have always loved this song, so seeing it performed unexpectedly is a huge surprise for me
. Not only that, it's like what alarictay said, one of the most perfect Lacrimosa ever! I was singing every word with them, and that "LA-CRI-MO-SA, DI-ES I-RAE!" was absolutely epic
(this was also exemplified when I threw my lightstick at the end of this part
)! Absolutely loved Lacrimosa here.
Another intermission followed. They talked about how this was their first time in Singapore, and they loved everyone and the food. Wakana loved the chicken rice with black sauce (I personally never tasted it with black sauce myself, but now that she recommends it ...
). They were also talking about some sweet they liked very much - which turned up some random answers from "cendol" (sweet dessert with condensed milk/coconut milk and green-colored jelly made from rice flour) and "ice kacang" (shaved ice served with assorted stuff like nuts, red beans, etc.) to, according to my friend, "goreng pisang" (literally, fried banana, though how this is a sweet I don't even know
). Nobody managed to give any answer though, and it ended up as "dessert". Keiko was really cute at this point (
) asking us to give the answer later. The next song announced was Sprinter (
).
This was really energetic and performed excellently. Hikaru's opening was perfect. Keiko was running from one end to the other
. Wakana's Kajiurago was
. The "Kimi ni ..." part really got the audience wild
.
The next song - again, a surprise for me because I didn't expect this would be performed AT ALL - was Ongaku. Needless to say, everyone basically went rabid on this one
. Wakana's Kajiurago, again, was excellent at this part (
). I actually felt like melting during her part
.
After Ongaku, I half-expected them to belt out Mata Kaze ga Tsuyokunatta for more awesomeness, but alas they announced their next song to be the "lasto"
. The disappointment was very audible from the audience. But Hikaru promised that they would come back and want to see us all again
!
They ended their performance with what was probably the best Hikari no Senritsu yet, with excellent harmonization here
(when the three of them sang together, I almost blanked out trying to separate one voice from another
).
As they left the stage, we were all doing, "Encore! Encore!" but our hope was dashed as the announcer thanked them
(and I personally now hate the announcer for doing that
) and announced May'n was next up.
In general, it was a really solid and extremely well-done performance. Not that they're perfect in all parts, but they at least outshine some of the other performers (I was basically unable to enjoy May'n's performance after theirs at all, sorry May'n fans
).
