Kalafina LIVE 2012 “to the beginning”

^ They performed it a few times back in '09, just after Storia single was released. Same for Utsukushisa - after Red Moon came out, both Utsukushisa and Lirica stopped being performed live entirely :uh..:

And as for Nowhere, maybe Sony pays Flying Dog a special fee that allows them to perform it?

if sony are willing to pay for nowhere, then that means the audience does like it :XD:

If I remember correctly, you can play any song live. You would have to pay royalties only if you release the performance. So guess Sony only payed Flying Dog for the Animax performance, and will have to pay again if this becomes a DVD - or they can just cut nowhere off from the release :XD:

That setlist is pretty great! Adore, Kyrie, in your eyes, magnolia are all great live songs imo.

And of course, Manten!!!! :sohappy: :sohappy:

I hope this gets a DVD release! Can't wait to watch it!

You can only cover a song live if you have permission from the copyright owner. That is, whoever composed the music. There are 3 separate parts of a song you can to a song - Lyrics, the music itself and the arrangement. I know nothing about the background of this song, but if it was written by Yuki Kajiura, then she will hold the copyright.

Kajiura was in charge of everything (lyrics, composition and arrangement) regarding "nowhere" except the vocals (Yuuka and Nishina Kaori) so guess that's pretty much covered then. It makes sense though, otherwise she wouldn't be able to perform tracks released under Sony at her own lives for example...unless that again, works differently. :ayashii:

I guess you're wrong. Many bands plays cover songs from bands that they have no connection at all at their lives. Plus, if ths sole fact of playing would demand royalties payment, there would just be no teenagers with garage bands :ohoho: Besides, since we're going deeper into this, I have a doubt: who is the copyright owner? While you guys are saying about the composers, I think that the copyright owner is the record company that release the original work. So, I still think that, if Kala wants to play nowhere live, they can do it as many times they want; but if a performance should be released in a DVD of theirs, Sony would have to pay the royalties to the original recording company (Flying Dog, right?).

^ While I don't know for sure, I'd agree that the copyright holder would probably be the record company. From what I know, in order to license a song for use in a TV episode, you'd have to pay the composer, lyricist, arranger, artist(s), and record company...so maybe the same situation applies here?

^I guess you'd pay the record company, and they would redistribute the payment to the creators. Few of it, of course XD

Well, it's not a problem if garage bands play somebody's songs at their rehearsals. But when it comes to live concerts, where the audience pays for the tickets, I believe you have to get a permission from the copywright owner to cover the song.

I guess I have to agree with Aero, since the same goes for performers here in Philippines, singers sing not just their songs but also other popular singer's songs during concerts without copyright problems, what I meant by

Still wondering WHY Nowhere is on the set list.
is that Nowhere does not fit Kalafina...I mean it doesn't turn out that good when they sing it. :psst:

AFAIK, they've performed utsukushisa in one of their AE live tour (not the one we got in the DVD) http://canta-per-me.net/live-events/2012-after-eden-6/

As for nowhere, well, we all know that Kajiura already threw some of her old songs to Kala, whether it's instrumental, or unrecorded See-Saw's song... Because Kalafina is currently her most successful project, I won't be surprised if we got a Kalafina cover album from her old works...

Many are complainig about repetitiveness in her recent works, and not only Kala shares half its personnel with FJ, but also some recent songs from the two groups sounded switched between them. If Kajiura releases such an album, it'll be like professional suicide lol :XD:

but maybe its interestinng if she made re-arrangements in many parts of the covered song :ayashii:

like in anna ni for example :XD

kalafina's anna ni is not exactly the same with the see saw version :XD:

^ I would prefer if See-Saw gather up to record those old 1999 songs + Only for Jusgo + "Dream Field song" + original Mune no Yukue and I have a dream, and release on their last album that will come together with copies of their older works and then disband.

^ I wonder what Yuki Kajiura will do for her 50th year... See-Saw re-union, orchestral concerts...? I don't think that YK and Chiaki-san will call See-Saw disbanded until they retire from singing.
