Kalafina invited @ Chicago Anime Central convention (ACen)

Just listened to Door live and ohmygod I really love Keiko's voice in the end of the song I think I'm in love it was even better than the original one. Although I'm agree with George - vocals were better than the original (except for Hikaru), but drumming is a disgrace compared to Nozaki's in the original.

Uh. Checked 3 tracks out of curiosity (signal, ARIA and obbligato). As usual I thought the girls were a mess.

I appreciated the new instrumental solos in signal though.

Omg thank you very very much salvanos!! :nosebleed:

In Oblivious, I'd only rather that Wakana sang opening kajiurago instead of Hikaru, like in original. And I'd wish if Wakana sang with her old style at least in the old songs.. :uh..: Otherwise, a good performance.

The ending of Consolation is very energetic :ohoho:

Door :TdT: :TdT: :TdT: Keiko in the end :nosebleed: :plz: :TdT:

In Aria Hikaru is pretty powerful, it gave the good feeling of a song.

Energetic Ongaku, Wakana made a perfect bridge! :TdT: As well as she did a her part in Signal great.

In overall, it was a great concert! All songs very done nicely! I gotta admit Wakana aced this one! Commends to the girls! :goodjob:

Waaaa thanks a lot for the link!!

(Door is perfect and the kajiuran at the end with Keiko & Wakana, wonderful!
I fall in love also with Obbligato! :dote: )

I'm glad I didn't sit next to that goofball who was talking through some of the songs. Aside from that, it's interesting to hear the concert from another spot.

Originally, I didn't think much of Hikari no Senritsu, but when they performed it there, it made me love the song. I felt "Wow, this song really rocks." haha. While sitting kinda close in the front right section, I could hear Wakana's high notes very clearly. Magia, Door, and Aria were also my favorites of that night.

^I thought the same of red moon, it isn't one of my favorites, but that version was just awesome. Even though it was loud that night. And I liked signal live then too. I will listen to it again, since I loved obbligato. I cheered so loud and jumped up and down, carefully though since I was on the balcony.

Glad I could share the experience :shy: Yeah the two dudes next to me would not shut up sometimes. I actually plan on recording more concerts when they come back to the states :sohappy:

Wow, Salvanos, this is excellent! Never thought I'd be able to relive the experience. The quality's great too, especially on the ballads.

Listening through them in order now... I pretty much stand by my original post. Beautiful concert, excellent performances from all three girls. Kagayaku was magical--because it's in the beginning of the concert, I've almost forgotten how good it was. Wakana's voice is so soothing in Door, and Keiko's solo makes me melt. Magia and Hikari no Senritsu were even better than I remembered. Red Moon, er... was just as flawed as I remembered, but one semi-dud in 16 is still a great track record.

Thank you Salvanos! :chuu:

I listened to a couple of them, like Door and HnS. They are lovely!

Thank you again to Salvanos and kudos to Kalafina!

Forgot to say thanks to salvanos~ Thanks a lot salvanos!

signal live was...Hikaru was pretty much off in almost all ends of every sentence, because she kinda shouted almost every end of the sentence. Wakana's "aaaah" was quite good, but she totally sounded like she's tired there, and she's failing miserably in singing Kaida's part before the bridge. I was kinda disappointed Hikaru and Keiko sounded so abruptly in "waratte sumasu deshou" "aruitekita michi de", and so on. Those were really rough-sounded for me. They could sing it "desho-u" and "michi de-e" like in the original version, so it can sounded more smooth, and doesn't sound as abrupt as this one. And Hikaru's totally pitchy in the end of the song. This is why I never really liked Hikaru's lower/deeper voice. She still doesn't have a good control for this singing style.

Keiko was good in the bridge. But again, the drumming irked me. Actually Sato could do well with the cymbal and the bass drum only, but he opted for using the snare and hanging tom as well - pretty much my overall thoughts on Sato's drumming. He rarely recreate the same feeling of songs that have no drum in the original version. Sometimes it turns out quite well, but most time it doesn't.

And unlike grunty, I don't appreciate the instrumental solos at all. The guitar solo in the end totally has nothing to do with the song, and it sounded like a different song altogether. The guitar solo in the end like some battle music on a RPG I've played before. And it's not that cool either. Sorry, Kore-chan~ The violin solo doesn't sound well either for me. Thankfully the live DVD will have signal with accordion. Well, it's for me. I've said that this is the only song that I hope they'll use a full karaoke for live performance, and not with the band (except for the elec.guitar).

Sorry for being such an annoying person here.

[edit]

obbligato - I pretty much felt sorry for Wakana - unlike everyone else, I think she was on the last of her energy here, especially in the chorus. Just like Hikaru in signal, almost every end of sentences were off. And Wakana shouldn't take Hanae's kajiurago in the middle - makes her tired even more and it doesn't sound that good either. Not off, but sometimes shaky.

And I don't know how come Sato still somehow failing miserably on a song that has him as the original drummer - and he made every song sounded all about the same with that drumming style.

My opinion about the girls stand still (especially now I've heard them live even if just once) : Keiko is pretty much the most solid one. Wakana and Hikaru were hit and miss.

Re: Kalafina invited @ Chicago Anime Central convention (ACe

I know what you mean about the solos but I can still appreciate this kind of "different experience". Unlike the poor singing "different experience". =p

Also, I suspect y'all know this but just in case: The violin wasn't live.

I agree Hikaru chopped off the ends of lines in Signal, but I still prefer the live over the studio because no stupid electronic effects on her voice! Any small technical missteps are preferable to... that. (In fact, Signal eventually slipped off from being my favourite Consolation song due to that effect).

EDIT: Ritardando, if you're talking about the "violin solo" in the middle of Signal, I don't think that even was a recorded violin... I think it was Sakurada fiddling around on the keyboard. :XD:

^
Ooh, I think it's violin solo because one of the girls shouted "Kon-chan!!" there. (Or maybe that's just me hearing things).

@Kowz : The setlist doesn't mention about signal with accordion, but iirc Hikaru said in the blogpost after that there's accordion in signal. (I mean, they have 2 songs with accordion, Hanataba and signal. Why did they have to invite Yoshiaki Sato to play only in Hanataba?) Well I shouldn't say that because they invite a cellist just to play in one song, lol.

@grunty : Awww I'm not as cruel as you are about the girls, grunty dear! :ohoho: At least Keiko did make me melt in Door and was solid in the bridge in signal. (Or maybe I'm too biased about her, idk. lol) and Wakana was really good in Door. I didn't really appreciate the instrumental solos because it ruined the mood of the song for me - from the cool mysterious and sexy signal to have a RPG-music in the end is just a no.

And for all, I don't mean to doubt the girls, because they were really good in AFA ID and that recent Niconico live - but the girls do seem to have on/off days and wasn't constantly good.

Anyway I can appreciate Wakana for using her old voice more in this live~ :sohappy:

I think so too :P

I see. Well, I hope there is live accordion. While I did like that crazy violin solo and the guitar at the end, a crazy, improvised accordion solo would be way cooler.

Oops now that I've searched for that Hikaru's blog post again, she didn't say that Yoshiaki Sato played for both songs. She only said that Yoshiaki Sato was there in their Special Final Concert and he had also participated in the recording for Hanataba and signal.

But I wish for live accordion for signal - wasn't Yoshiaki Sato played accordion in signal as well in YK live vol.10? I really hope for a live accordion there.

Re: Kalafina invited @ Chicago Anime Central convention (ACe

@Coral and Ritar: Yeah, it was the keyboard, since I remember that part. I was so disappointed there was no Konno, but we had the recordings for some of the songs, like Hikari furu though at least. Still... it would have made the night even more amazing. heh It's still one of my favorite memories though.
