Kalafina 8th single: Kagayaku sora no Shijima ni wa

I like the two songs but as to whether they would become my favourite Kalafina songs, well... that will take more listens. On first listen though I must say, I too was slightly disappointed to find that Keiko didn't have more nifty counter melodies and did mostly only harmonising in these two songs. I love how having her sing in the harmony just adds richness and depth to a Kalafina song. Having listened to Kalafina for a while, I've almost formed a habit of always listening out for the moments when she takes over for a bit as I find those moments so refreshing.

Kalafina remains my favourite Kajiura project (with the current FJ setup just slightly behind) mainly because of Keiko. The contraltos in a vocal group like this often get so little love because they mostly just sing in support of the sopranos, mezzo sopranos and altos but in Kalafina, this isn't the case and Kajiura has used Keiko's rich and powerful voice with great effect.

Kagayaku and Adore bear all the hallmarks of a Kajiura song which isn't really a bad thing. I like Kajiura's type of music, that is why I have followed her music for years, regardless of whether I like the anime or have watched the anime. I don't want her to suddenly go off on some tangent just so that they can please us mtv and post mtv generation listeners. Just that, since these are Kalafina songs, I wished that Keiko was given just one or two more moments.

That said, I like both these songs enough, whether they will make it to my favourite list remains to be seen because I find that with Kalafina's music, I usually need sometime to digest it as I listen to all the little details that usually escape me during the first few cursory listens. Currently I am only listening to the mp3s as I haven't looked for a flac download and my cd hasn't arrived yet. When I get it, I will be able to hear the song without all that compression and will also place the flac on my mp3 player and play the cd on my component player which will definitely be better than playing it on my crappy computer speakers and then I may or may not move more favourably towards the songs.

Currently, I prefer Kagayaku. Adore is fine but I liked Keiko's parts more in Kagayaku and I wished that Hikaru came in with just a little more power in the beginning in Adore.

Sorry, Ragin :\ I can only do it for songs with original instrumentals.... I wish!!!!!
Well i can try... not sure if i can though

Question: Can someone from those who got their Kagayaku limited edition to inform us about the rest of the info that is in the poster (apart from the DVD and Blue-rau thing, I think there were two more things, a live and something else) :plz: Thank you!

I said before that I didn't like Kagayaku, with the exception of Keiko's kajiuran solo. my opinion still hasn't changed.

adore was... all right.

both were quite forgettable songs for me. both contained the typical kajiura style. they felt safe. and kinda boring. :(

i didn't have an issue with the fact that Keiko was relegated to singing mostly harmonies, because part of her job as an alto is to support the other two. it's just that if Yuki planned on using Wakana and Hikaru for leads, she could have composed the melodies in a way so as not to to make them sound so repetitive and tired. i loved Wakana's parts in oblivious and Hikaru's in ARIA, and though they sang a lot in those songs i didn't get sick or bored of their voices or the melodies.

regardless, thank you so much for uploading, zurra!!

adore has nothing on oblivious. It's more like progressive

lol, it seems like everyone gets his own parallels. I, for one, couldn't draw any parallels with Aikoi or Hikari no Yukue (not to mention A Song of Storm and Fire), though I agree there seems to be slight semblance to Kyrie, and the intro effect - I could almost bet it was the same as in Progressive. Though overall, in my view this song lands closer to Synchronicity and [maybe] Gin no Hashi. :ayashii:

Long time since I was here... But...I came back and I'm soooo happy!!! :dote:

@johana_mh Same for me. Lurkers forever!

Overall, I loved both songs. Best way I can describe it is that both seem to be stylistically closer to Seventh Heaven than to Red Moon, relatively.

Adore is a really good fast paced song. My neck is sore from bopping my head to the beat all day. :XD:

adore has disappointed me... Kalafina is disappointing me. And... I don't know why!! >_<

While both songs are musically okay, i'm very much disappointed because ... well... mainly Keiko isn't in the songs.

Don't get me wrong, it isn't that I'm a huge Keiko fan.
But, honestly, Yuki abuses Wakana's and Hikaru's voices a lot, that Kalafina has lost it's vocal diversities for me. It is just like how Yuki abuses Violin and Piano in her recent OSTs.
While the melodies aren't new, they aren't bad either, but through its repetition. they are becoming...repetitive.... no experiment, nothing new.

Hope Yuki can do something new in arrangement, melodically, or use some new instrument or voices, so that long time fans won't be bored.
I remember how I heard Aria for the first time... musically is very kajiura (so so), but the first time hearing Hikaru's voice is soooooo...lovely and exciting. Also Sprinter, which was kinda new to Yuki's style.

Well, next single will be better... I hope.
Die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt.

Oh btw, it is good to know that they can get 8th place on oricon. Get more famous, better PVs.

I agree. It would've been better if Keiko sang the second part of Kagayaku...

I just think Keiko should have sang another verse between Wakana's and the Kajiuran bridge. I love Hikaru's verse.

Indeed, part of the contralto's job is to sing the harmonies. Keiko is the deepest voice in Kalafina and her job for the most part is to provide support. And I usually don't have a problem with Keiko doing that. In fact, I like it that she does it well and that it's clear that she's there to give greater richness to the overall sound. But Kalafina is not just Wakana and Hikaru, Keiko is there for Kajiura to use too and because there are three of them, listeners have gotten used to "looking" out for all 3 of them.

I think that perhaps if Keiko was given more distinct moments in these two songs in particular, it doesn't have to be lead, it doesn't even have to be a verse, just moments and it may have broken up the melodies so that it doesn't sound so repetitive and tired to you and more satisfying for listeners like me. In Kagayaku and especially in Adore, Keiko does a lot of shadowing. I like Oblivious a lot too and felt that Wakana was really good in that song but Keiko had very important moments in that song and although she was not the lead, her presense was very apparent and that was what nailed Oblivious for me. Wakana and Keiko had that exchange of lines about at 2/3 into Oblivious and I really like that section of Oblivious. Aria left less of an impression on me.

But this is really just on first listen for me and my impression may change later when I listen to the flac on my mp3 player or when I get my cd and am able to play it on my component system. Kalafina songs usually require more listens for me.

Oh... and just to make you guys jealous :) ... I received an email from my friend in Japan yesterday and she has managed to secure tickets to Kalafina's concert in Shibuya on the 11th Dec. So unless something important happens inbetween, I will be attending the concert in Japan in Dec. Yay. :D
