thank for the scans!

i've seen the scan and wonder about these two too..

"When the fairy tale ends"
is it the interlude to fairytale just like Kalafina's overture at 2nd day of TYPE-MOON Fest ??

"Numquam Vincar"
the link that you give is the set list of LIVE Vol#9 instrumental concert..
the "Numquam Vincar" in Kalafina's concert (as seen on booklet scan) is it an interlude just like "when the fairy tale end" ??

I've listen to around 8 songs from the album and I'm enjoying it so far.

Whenever I listen to Kalafina's studio recordings, I always feel that they could be "bigger", with more emphasis on the vocal harmonies. The mixes always seem a little underwhelming. I was hoping that, with this album's live band, this issue would be resolved.

And it kind of is, but not for every song. Firstly, the sound quality is better than that of the FJLive CD, but I still feel that the balance isn't quite right. There's much more emphasis on the drums (which is great), but the pieces still aren't as "in your face" as I'd like them to be.

Concerning vocal editing, I don't think any vocals have been edited for tuning. As these pieces were recorded live, it's much harder to tinker with the audio. For example, you can't pitch correct Hikaru if she was also getting picked up on Wakana's mic. It would sound dreadful.

I think they sing most of these pieces well. Ongaku is great, though a bit more bass would be nice. They sing Lacrimosa and Eden well. I think the worst song for pitch is Oblivious. I don't really like how this version sounds. I also don't like Progressive, though not because of the singing - I feel the drums are too sparse and make it very ploddy.

Best song so far? Serenato is freaking awesome. I don't even care that the singing is a bit off at times, it absolutely rocks.

All in all, it's good and a definite improvement over the FJLive CD, but maybe not quite as good as I was hoping for. The mixes seem to be a bit off at times.

Oh, puh-lease... If... IF they had any trouble with mics (in the lives presented on this release) it was only during Premium Live.

Why am I getting into this mess again?

Why am I getting into this mess again?

There is no mess to get into. I'm basing my point off of experience and technical limitations :psst:

An example:

You have 2 singers, standing side by side, singing into a microphone each. That makes two separate audio channels, right? You have the two audio signals feeding into a mixing desk/computer system. You can then isolate and edit the audio. However, 2 singers standing side by side, both singing into microphones, are going to get picked up on EACH OTHERS microphone. That means you're going to have 2 voices audible on each channel. So how do you pitch correct one of the singers? If you pitch correct one you also inadvertently pitch correct the other one. Not only that, but you have an audible "ghost" of their original pitch on the OTHER channel.

Now, imagine that, only with more microphones and more audio bleed. Kalafina have a full band behind them and often run about the place, so audio bleed is almost 100% guaranteed. It makes a lot of editing impossible. This goes for any live situation. :p

I still think the only time they COULD have trouble with the mics was on Closed Premium Live considering how small the venue was.

After all the bootlegs/live recordings/tv performances we've heard, I think it's amazing you would still think they were capable of performing this good on all these lives included.

How I miss grunty's sarcasm. It's so refreshing after all those "you're welcomeee", "thank youuuuu", "++++++1", "I'm so happy... :sohappy: "

Please don't kill me.

Isn't that why we love them? :shy:

But really, I'm cool as long as whatever I hear dazzles me. I'm not perceptive enough to notice any audio tweaking in their tracks if they exist. :XD:

Hey, it's possible! One other thing is that a lot of live stuff use "ambient" microphones which are placed out front of stage to capture of overall "sound" of the event. If they've used ambient microphones for these recordings, say goodbye to any editing what-so-ever :p

Also, these recordings were made from 3 - 4 lives? Considering how many they've done, I think 3 or 4 really good ones is a realistic enough ask. :p

Pretty much every song has off notes anyway. : p

@Mwhlr: You're delusional.

@george: I think he meant that a single song was recorded multiple times during a TOUR so there could have been at least ONE performance that was "good".

A) I still find them performing a song that good in a single take pretty much impossible given the evidence we have; B) If it was put together from several performances (without tinkering with vocals themselves) that's still editing; C) Most of DISC1 was from single concerts, not tours.

I won't say that it's totally impossible for them to perform a song that good in a single take, but it does hard for them to perform it that good. I have to say that Kalafina on their early days was what we could've say 'blah'. They have improved now, but it's true that they have ups and downs in their performances.

I have to admit that I'm still refusing to say they're that bad in their live performances, given the fact that a lot of people praised them in their live commentary. Well, that's it, if their fans are not some delusional fans that will say their performance is good no matter what. And if they're that bad, nobody will want to see them performing lives again and again, no matter how much they love Kala's performance in recording version. At least if it was me, I'll do that.

lol anyway, I hear plenty of off notes, shouting and lack of control in general in these recordings. But whatever.

I haven't finished listening to the CD, but so far I'm really liking what I hear. Sprinter accoustic is fantastic, I wish we could hear all those different arrangement for various songs. And I like how clear the voices sound in here, there's an improvement over the FJ live CD and I'm glad.

I second that. I dont know where grunty lives but if they happen to pass from your country in the future, go to see/hear them yourself, I think this experience will be more convincing than any bootleg or dvd concerning their singing abilities :)
