The song I listen to the most in this album is actually Gogatsu, eventually topping off the number of plays I did for heavenly blue in my iTunes, lol.

Overall, I only have 5 tracks from this album in my itunes (with musunde, one light, and fotw), with the total number of plays being lesser than that from their 10 other tracks I have right now (kimi ga hikari, kizuato, fairytale, natsu no ringo, storia, lacrimosa, kagayaku, moonfesta, ttb, obbligatto) with natsu no ringo being my top Kala track atm.

Will be anxiously waiting for their next releases, with cautious optimism. With all the tracks we have heard from them so far, I guess the only thing they did not do is sing a metal or country track, lol.

Destination Unknown is pretty close to metal honestly, and this is coming from someone who listens to a LOT of metal of numerous subgenres.

I remember thinking the bass line is similar at some point to Fall Out Boy's Where Did The Party Go? which is a rockish type song. The notes are exactly the same, they tempo is different, the arrangement is very close at points. (at least the points I can hear before the verses) So it probably is even closer to metal with the guitar solo.

I would also agree DU is close to metal at times, especially the second "deshou" (in lives) leading into the guitar solo.

Magia, especially the [quattro] variant, I consider to be "Symphonic Metal", a subgenre of metal that has a more symphonic/stringed-based (along with guitar, obviously) structure. Other than those 2 songs, I don't think there's much more that Kalafina/Kajiura has done that is comparable to metal (a few OST songs may qualify, though).

EDIT: Going back to FotW, my general placement of the album imo would be second worst, in between AE (last) and SH (3rd) (SH would've been higher if Ashita no Keshiki and Love Come Down didn't exist). Despite this, I would retain its place even if you ignore HB & believe and place Alleluia and KnGnN/Tsuioku in. In general, the songs on SH were better than FotW.

I like the album tracks quite a bit, except for Hokage. The singles are weak, the only one I listen to is Ring your bell. I don't dislike Believe or One Light but I don't try to listen to them actively either. I hate Heavenly Blue. Identify is the only genuinely great song in this album imo, and Musunde hiraku is like Eden or Mune no yukue v. 2.0, but since I love both of those songs, I like Musunde as well.

Usumurasaki is the one that first stood out on initial listening and I think it's still the best for me.

I've had Gogatsu's melody ingrained in my brain for months though, it won't leave. I could probably hum it off by heart right now and I'm not sure there's any other songs I could do that with.

Every time Gogatsu plays in my car I sing KEIKOs harmony lines with her. Her lines are the best part of that song tbh.

@Seasonreaper usumurasaki also stood out to me during the first listen. I could listen to that for days and not get sick of it lol

I find myself liking identify & monochrome a lot more now. I sang identify at karaoke when I was in japan in early december and I just fell in love with it...weird lol

I don't feel it is metal. It's got a harder edge. To me: It's more Progressive than Metal. I have all of Asia's albums and DU is not any harder than any of their music. I really think Metal as a style and Genre has been watered down when non metal styles get included. Suddenly every thing from The Who to Yes is "metal" is some form.

I've heard metal before and trust me, Destination Unknown is not metal. It is an upbeat song, possibly a rock song, but it hardly a metal song. The closest Kalafina has gotten to metal is Mata Kaze ga Tsuyoku Natta and barely.

The influence is definitely there. If you try and compare it to, say, early Cryptopsy or Amon Amarth or anything of course it's not even close. Metal however isn't really a genre in itself, it's so varied it practically requires the slew of subgenres it has. Look at Senzafine/Comalies era Lacuna Coil, or newer Anathema or arguably Katatonia, or more ambient stuff like Alcest or The 3rd and the Mortal or Ulver. Just because it's not brutally heavy or full of screaming doesn't make it not metal.

It's interesting how the discussion about "metal" is no longer: "Metal includes this..." It's now "This includes Metal." And that's not just here. I have the Metal Evolution series and it's a blurry composite of every type of music that "contains" aspects of metal.

I really like Believe too. Maybe because I really enjoyed Fate too. I do think it is simple, but I think that's the reason why I like it. ring your bell is all right. Musunde is probably my favorite now. Though Usu and monochrome are up there. Musunde is just so uplifting and it must be awesome live.

Believe is actually the better of the two similar songs for me and I also can't wait to hear Musunde live, Kalafina would do an awesome job

A quick observation of Kalafina evolution through their albums:
Seventh Heaven - Just starting, a studio group with out real direction or form
Red Moon - finding their style and form
After Eden - Hitting their stride, showing us this is not a one off thing
Consolation - wth ? Is this Kalafina or is it Fiction Junction ? There seems to be some hybrid developing.
Fire on the Water - okay.. this is no longer Kalafina. This is Fiction Junction with a Kalafina line up.

YK seems to be making a transition from the dark heavy side of her music that Kalafina fit in to a more lighter rock style that FJ is known for. This is more a follow up to Elemental than any Kalafina album. Maybe it's the series and movies that she is writing for.

Often times if Kaijura is doing an anime both FJ and Kalafina will get a song for it so the show theory is plausible. It might also be that some FOTW songs are some form of ani unreleased FJ track since that's also happened before. It could also be that as Kalafina's vocalists voices and harmonies evolve as individuals and as a unit the style may suit them more. Who knows?

^I don't think there's been a single show that both FJ and Kalafina had a song for... The closest thing would be Historia OP Theme and storia (along with the other Kala RHH songs), I guess :XD:

I don't think that a YK soundtrack has had an affect on a FJ/Kala song, excluding if it was an OP/ED for the show (ex. Hikari furu (Oct 2012) probably wouldn't fit into SAO (Summer/Autumn 2012) that well).

Here the most played track from this album is...
wait what? How is Heavenly Blue the one I've listened to the most? That's my least favorite song on the album! (Yes, I see all the hate for Believe here, but I honestly still think that song beats out Heavenly Blue by sounding not quite as much like... four songs off of Consolation forcibly stuck together. Like, my immediate reaction to that song was basically just "This song is a total mess what the eff and while my opinion on it might not be quite that harsh anymore, I still think it's pretty bad.") ...Eh. I guess it might be because 1: it's the oldest song on the album, and 2: in my aptly named "Kalafina - Songs that aren't on the albums" playlist, it used to be right after the Kimi no Gin no Niwa songs. Which are awesome (well, the first and last track at least... misterioso just kinda exists) and still get played a lot... In fact it seems Kimi no Gin no Niwa is the single most played Kalafina song on my iPod.

Most played album-original track is the titular Far on the Water though. Again a bit surprising, as I thought it would be Gogatsu here too, being that that's the one I actually like the most and all... But eh. I guess when I put the album on, it just ends up playing through to the end more often than not, so wherever I start playing it from, it always ends up with another replay of that song.

That said though, Far on the Water currently has 43 plays listed on my iTunes list... Seventh Heaven, by comparison, has 343. I mean part of that might just be because I've had that CD for four years or so, but Seventh Heaven just being a generally better album also probably has something to do with it.
