Kalafina 18th single "One Light" for Arslan Senki [confirmed]

I just liked a bunch of posts to show that I agree with them completely (I think?).

Of course I will give it a try and all that but judging from the recent works, I guess that Kajiura won't put much into it. No offense to any one, but the amount of work she's been devoting to her recent works seems to be enough for most fans (I assume the sales are increasingly good or at least comparable to those of past singles?= anyhow the songs are disturbingly similar imo).

Of course Kajiura works hard in general. The lives were really nice and you probably know that I enjoy HtA very much. Kalafina presents a nice/profitable venue for the anison genre but Kajiura seems to be abusing this opportunity which is doomed to fail (if not already has) in my mind's eye (taste).

cheerio :)

Sorry - I'm new here. Name's Atlas.
Who is Kajiura?

Welcome! Kajiura is the songwriter (you can see her playing keyboard/piano in some FictionJunction live shows as well). Between writing songs for Kalafina, FictionJunction and other solo/soundtrack projects, she's a busy lady. If you find time to read through the discography pages on the main site here, you'll see that her back catalogue is looong.

I see there's three outcomes here.

a) Stagnation. Kajiura keeps rewriting the same song over and over again and everything sounds about as samey as Ali Project and Dragonforce combined. The fanbase splits in half between the 'old' Kalafina between 2007 and 2014 and the 'new'. They don't like each other much.

b) Advancement. Kajiura gets over this and continues writing interesting stuff again. Everyone rejoices. Kalafina is love, Kalafina is life.

c) Termination. Kalafina shuts down as a project before it collapses in on itself. Everyone is sad, but it was for its own good as it was having trouble living.

B or C are necessary really.

She's the composer of Kalafina since their beginning. Click the links above for more info on her. She's the person this site is about.
OH i see i see I had no clue ahha! like i said i'm an amateur xD

Very interesting theory.... (A) sounds very interesting with the "split"... Whereas I believe I am in between. I love all of Kalafina's works. Although I only know like 10 songs ahha! I really dont hope for C.. but it'll be inevitable. It's going to have to happen one day....

Unpopular opinion: I'd love to see FJ and Kalafina get disbanded.

I can't see it happening, though. They make them money and keep selling tix for lives.

Hi grunty - I can understand where you are coming from about the money and the live tickets. But why would you want to see them disbanded?

I was gonna say nobody really wants c, but then grunty happened.

It's still a preferrable outcome to a. I've seen so many artists fall into a rut and never get out again. I'd prefer to leave a consistent, strong legacy than drag something out far beyond it's lifespan. I guess this is part of the reason I'm so focussed on seeing Kalafina in Japan later this year, it might be the last possible time to do it before they either split or fill their set lists with terrible songs that all sound the same.

^ @ grunty I am okay for FJ as long as they make their rare singles more interesting.

Kalafina really needs something new to them, they keep the same stuff over and over again. Same boring PVs and website, similar arrangements to songs, same roles in the songs (W or H lead, Keiko few lines, with some exception.) Or they can disband and Kajiura can start something completely new. They are already the most long-lasting jpop project of her.

@KanaRinGasu: So far all new member had discovered Kalafina and then Kajiura or the other way around, but you are the first one who doesnt know about her at all and that's why we were surprised. No need to worry, we can educate you ;)

I think Kala exceeded all expectations that they themselves and everyone else had of them as soon as they recorded more than one album! By which I mean: there was no definite goal after the KnK theme songs, so for the past few years it's been one pleasant surprise after another when they put on a good live show and released a successful single/album. They - and we - have been very lucky, and from a personal POV I've been grateful every time I've heard a new song of theirs that I've enjoyed.

There's always a risk of stagnating when the songs are written by the same person and performed by the same musicians - it's a common issue and I think it's happening here. I wouldn't wish any traumatic event like a member leaving or being dropped by their record label to provide a 'spark' that brings about change (okay, leaving SME for someone else might be a *good* thing, but I digress...), but I do think they need some source of new ideas.

I have contemplated the worst case scenario where they disband, but it wouldn't be the disaster that my initial thoughts suggested it might be. There's a lot of overlap in YK projects, so we'd still see the same songwriter, musicians and vocalists recording and performing together.

It's just, I worry that being part of a major label like SME isn't as beneficial as being independent or being signed to a smaller label like FJ/Flying Dog. I'm sure it's helped them in some aspects, but it comes with limitations as well. My personal suspicion/cynicism towards 'The Industry' might be skewing my opinion there, but eh.

I feel like, even if they disband, they would still occasionally sing in YK lives

It's not that interesting lol however if you like

Here:
I'm hopeful that Kajiura is still able to write her best music. lapis and tsuioku are a proof of this, we just need to be patient. I don't expect One Light to be as good as her first works but I still believe she has the sparkle to make her music shine like it did before.

P.S. This is just an answer to all the apocalyptic scenarios I've read this far on her current work. (not only on this thread)
Tbh I quite like HB, believe and RYB and I can't see any similarity.

I completely agree, Kohaku! I like heavenly blue for one thing, ring your bell for another, and believe for another.

For heavenly blue, it is the robotic tone in the beginning that transitions into a very surreal atmosphere.. where it goes "sora to mizu ga hoshi wo somete aoku niji wo egaite chitte...". I am blown away each time i listen to that part.
For believe, I think it is the "fight your fate" part that gets me every time xD I just think it sound so cool.
For Ring your bell, it is the middle part after "ring your bell" and then it goes into the Latin lyrics and then "kimi e to tzuzuiteta michi no..." up until "kienai kara"... I LOVE THAT PART!
