Kalafina 18th single "One Light" for Arslan Senki [confirmed]

When I listen to One Light, I feel like I don't hate it as much as I should ...
But the transitions are still awful and it's definitely not the type of music I want from Kalafina. I wouldn't care that it exists if this wasn't such a trend with them these days. I think I might like the instrumental better, but I don't plan on sitting around and listening to either version.

The B sides... they sound alright. They remind me of Japanese music from at least a decade or two ago? (Oh, after I typed this I scrolled up and apparently people already said that. I guess I'm on the right track then!) It's kind of nostalgic...

They don't sound like they're going to come close to being favorites of mine, but I don't mind having something different like this every once in awhile. I'll probably like them well enough.

I dunno how ya'll are comparing Keiko's voice in Mahiru to Kaze no Mache e. They sound nothing alike.

Keiko used her more nasally tone in Mahiru. if I were to draw a comparison I'd say Keiko's voice in Mahiru is closer to her voice in "i swear" verses or her "kanashimi ga kureta uta" in "sing a song".

(edit) this site already has the complete romaji and translation of both Mahiru and Samidare.

expecting leaks soon

The image they're using for far on the water is a fake one, right? I mean, it should be, obviously, because of the RYB dresses, but I had to ask anyway. Just to be sure.

Edit: I just saw the mics. Ok, it CAN'T be real.

Mahiru's lyrics heavily uses water and things on the water. lapis also has water and seashore imagery. samidare is about rain, which is a form of water. no wonder their 5th album is far on the water, Kajiura seems to get much inspirations from water related thingies...

lol what did i say ien and koibito is pretty much about dried and deserted lands. funny how Kajiura uses a very different imageries for their songs. at least she hasn't lost her touch with beautiful lyrics. (save for one light, which is okay but standard and has been used on hundreds other songs before)

You know... Once I got past the initial "lol" shock on Samidare, I actually kinda enjoyed it... Kinda. It's such a kumbaya though and another entry in the "lalala" category.

I am hoping mine will ship tonight still, or early tomorrow so it will be here Tues. (I am not home on Wed, it can't come then! Usually when I choose Intermediate Shipping on CDJ it arrives the Tues before release, so this tues. It's in shipping process, usually I get an email by now though) I did borrow my brother's record player though. hehe I am hoping the full version of One Light will be a little better, since usually when it comes to Kala songs I will want to watch every time it comes on, and I just watched the recent ep of Arslan, but I guess the last time I heard the tv size it was kind of... blah? But it will hold me over till the new album.

Imo this is the worst single from Kalafina. Samidare is ridiculous (and it's indeed a lalalala song). The melody is boring, the best part is the "lalala" indeed. This is their epitome of "clap along with the audiences song". I hate hate hate the guitar melody. I don't understand why did Kajiura let Hikaru sings the last stanza but has Keiko sings the "iru yo" in "sakasete iru yo" when the whole stanza is actually on Keiko's range. Oh and I hate how they filtered Hikaru's and Wakana's voice.

Keiko sounds okay in Mahiru, some of her parts still don't sound smooth. Hikaru's delivery in her stanza is laughably bad. Really like Wakana's voice in Mahiru - this is the closest she ever got to her old voice.

One Light is another heavenly blue. I'll be generous and rate this single a 5.5/10.

Thanks so much @SurgamIdentidem now time for a review!!

One Light: I don't care what anybody else says, I really like this song. A lot. The drums may be bit annoying, but all the girls' singing is on point, I love the kajiurago part and it's so freaking catchy. I know the "being catchy doesn't mean its good" thing, but I really like this song, I have not much other reasoning.

Mahiru: Really peaceful piano ballad. Keiko's part was nice but a bit too breathy. I was a bit agitated by Hikaru's delivery of her part but I ended up getting over it, I think it portrayed some kind of angst in the song over everything else. Hikaru just naturally puts drama into every song she's in. Wakana's solo was so beautiful though... and I really like the piano melody.

Samidare ga Sugita Koro ni: LOOOOVE IT. Okay, other people may not be good with bright songs and trust me, I'm not either, but this song just makes me feel really happy. The melody for the verses are really chirpy and they feel... unique to me, but the melody for the chorus is kind of blah. Keiko's verse is way too breathy but I was hoping for a Keiko solo and got one so I can't really complain. The 'la la la' was a pleasant surprise and sounded especially nice during Hikaru's part and at the end.

Sorry for this overly positive review, but some people have to be positive on this site. I'm on here because I love Yuki Kajiura, Fiction Junction and Kalafina, and I want to express how happy I am that, as a fan of this band, Kalafina is releasing new music. It's really only natural, and I don't really come onto this site to complain (except for that one time :/)

duh i don't get anything breathy with Keiko's delivery in samidare. and there's a big difference of putting emotion/purposely sounding weak and ACTUALLY BEING WEAK. Hikaru's way of sliding her notes, breathing and cutting her verses is simply bad.
