Kalafina 18th single "One Light" for Arslan Senki [confirmed]

I'm already in love with the song. It's a combination of both Kajiura's anison bright style (RYB and HnS for example) and her rockish and upbeat one (Magia and stone cold somehow). It's generic, I agree with you, but that kind of generic I would still love if sung by Kalafina. And, tbh, what was everyone expecting? Sorry if I sound rude but we should begin to realize that's what Yuki is composing lately for anime. I think we can't expect for another Magia or whatever she has composed earlier that sounds awesome af to come from an anime A-side.

The song sounds somehow fresh to me (except for that HB part at the end) and Hikaru gets the spotlight, finally. (still waiting for Keiko, damn) Finally a faster refrain.

The PV looks awesome. It seems way more dinamic than everything they have recorded this far. (why a French map however? xD)

P.S. Kajiura seems to have a thing for white flags lately, is it just me?

Um as for me, I don't like the song because so far the song has no redeeming point at all (apart of the more prominent Hikaru). I simply don't like the melody at all. I like heavenly blue's verses and Kajiurago, I enjoy believe's verses and I like ring your bell's chorus. This song? No. Nothing. And I already don't have any expectation towards this song so... If I were to choose between one light and Eir's lapis lazuli, I'd stick to lapis lazuli. That really says something for me because I don't even like Eir's voice.

TBH I wouldn't expect any of us to be sold on a song after hearing just a few seconds - we still don't know what the intro, coda, verse/chorus changes are going to sound like. The preview offers a general idea of the tempo and arrangement, but that's more or less it.

I do like what I've hear so far, but there's no way I'm making a final judgement so early on. I certainly don't have enough reason to write it off altogether.

I'm talking about the TV size, of course. However I don't think there will be great variations from the tv size structure (I'd love to be wrong. Surprises are always well accepted).

Of course the overall judgement can change completely after the full but imho tv size tells a lot about the song.

Well, we have different ships of fools here. One boat with people "loving stuff despite the shortcomings cause it's by Kalafina" and the other with people fooling themselves into false hopes of Kajiura delivering a good song despite knowing that's not happening very often these days (in their opinion)... Seems like a normal day.

And, tbh, what was everyone expecting? Sorry if I sound rude but we should begin to realize that's what Yuki is composing lately for anime.

Many people were indeed expecting to be disappointed so I'm kinda missing your "sorry if I sound rude" part here. Expectations were met (theirs and yours it seems).

If they're going to stick with standard song pattern (verses-chorus x 2, bridge, and then final chorus) then it only leaves the bridge to look forward to, and the bridge is like, what, 10% of the song? So yup, it's already more than enough for me to write the song off already.

At least with HB I'd stick until the kajiurago, which means I'll still listen until the song ends when my music player plays it. believe? Since I only like the verses, most time I skip it. ryb? I like the chorus, so I still listen until the song ends. This song? Even less than believe. what more can I say.

@grunty I get your point. First of all, I used the "sorry if I sound rude" attitude because I'm never sure on how something I think comes out in written english and to someone maybe it can seem rude so I prefer to prevent that.

Then, reading your comment I've understood I missed what people were expecting. It's just me being always excited for new music. My fault. You're right.

If you don't like what you're hearing in the clip, that's totally fine and understandable. Beyond that though, how can you possibly say with certainty that you don't like *something that you've never even heard before*?

Well duh I did say that if they're going to stick to the "normal" song pattern (and it's really likely) then I'll only have the bridge to look forward to because I don't like the song's melody at all, be it the verses or the chorus. So what's the use of listening the whole song when you already don't like the melody from the first half that is most likely will be repeated? Unless the song is another believe that has a random ass bridge (but then it has the whole first part repeated after the bridge, so it's more or less the same for me). The song obviously isn't going to be like sprinter, Kimi ga Hikari, Hikarifuru, and obviously seventh heaven that have more unique structure. I don't like it and won't like it.

Haha well for me, for ring your bell, I didn't like the song based on the TV size because it was dry.. But once I heard the bridge, and the part that starts with KEIKO's "kimi e to", I fell in love! So I like to keep an open mind still. I admit I still am resistant to a song if I don't like the sample clip or the TV size, but I end up changing my mind some how sometimes haha

I agree, seventh heaven is one of the most uniquely composed Kalafina song! One of my inexpendible favourites..

I am just personally happy it isn't amother misterioso-style song, where the song, to me, was just too messy and se thing repeating again and again in terms of the rhythm of the melody.. I'm not sure if I am explaining it effectively in words.

I am not sure I like this, but it's catchy. I like Wakana's part. (I personally still like Wakana. Her voice was the first I noticed in Kalafina.) There are some things that similar to Believe and even HB, and I do not like HB except for Wakana's verses (like ritar), but I like Believe. This is a little more choppy. Maybe the drumming made it sound more like a FJ song? But I don't see the similarities to stone cold here. I like Keiko's line, maybe she'll have more in the full version? I love the violin as normal. I generally will like *almost* anything by Kalafina or Yuki, but there are some songs that I don't like, the same with FJ. I liked Believe though, I am probably the only one. But maybe this song will grow on me and I can't wait to hear the full version! Thanks for sharing!

PS: The beginning almost sounds the same as Believe/Ring Your Bell, but then takes a different direction, which I like.

Listened to the whole ED. Nothing new under the sun. Kajiura-sama, we want the beautiful songs you used to give (SELL) us, not that lumpy soup. Seems like SME's driving Kalafina toward a generic band like every other, with no more musical identity, no Kajiura signature anymore, no more vocal performance – the girls have proven to be capable of much, much, much better. I begin wondering whether my participation to the FOTW live tour would be a good idea, I don't wish to hear the same song under 4 different versions (HB, Blv, RYB, OL) at once...

Surely now would be the best time to attend a tour, before they have enough generic songs to fill a whole setlist. I'm not that convinced they'll do Heavenly Blue any more anyway considering the amount of time since release. The longer you wait, the more chance of further weak songs being released or of an outright disbandment of the project. Think of it less like 'is it even worth seeing them when they're starting to become like this?' and more like 'this is the last chance of seeing them still perform with a decent setlist'. I don't like they direction they're taking either, but if it's going to continue to decline then you'll truly have missed your chance.

Hmm, I listened to the preview, but I felt that it kinda sounds like Heavenly Blue, Believe, and Ring Your Bell a bit here and there.
It's just an okay song for me. Maybe, it's good enough to be played when I am playing some PVP games or so. Not really something that I will listen over and over again after I have learned all the voice parts ^^;;;
I love Hikaru's power in the song, though~

The video clip, I love it. It looks fierce, but yea I agree that the quality is kinda ugghh... the camera moved too much......

I hope the other songs in the album are better xD

This anime is not on my watchlist, so I decided just to view its ED sequence. IMO, it seems that the scenery did not match the song (not to mention that I would rather substitute a scene from a live film with a relative theme instead, 300 for instance? lol).

As for the TV Spot, it blew me away in an instant. Looking forward for a promising PV.

Overall though, I agree with the others that we are looking forward for another HB type of song. I kinda fear that this will end up like Believe for me, where it no longer gets included in my daily playlist (HB was otherwise, it really left a mark in me lol). I am with crystalpink for saying that this is what you should listen when you are doing PVP games or in competitive moments.

So far, it looks like this song can be very much appreciated only if it is accompanied with great visuals (I am looking at you, PV). It remains to be seen if I can change my mind when I hear the full track later.

How One Light sounds is par for the course for a typical shounen anime. It's to be expected for a Kalafina tie-in. Having said that, the alternating Hikaru/Wakana in the refrain and fierce Hikaru in general are what I like about it.

No doubt the B-sides will at least try to be more creative, though we shall see how well they succeed on that front.
