Bessatsu Kadokawa Soryoku Tokushu Kalafina - tokuten & other info
Kalafina announced on the 10th Jan that there will be a special Bessatsu Kadokawa Soryoku Tokushu publication that will be solely about Kalafina. I wanted to write about it but was simply too busy to then. I think by now most fans would know about this release.
Kadokawa is asking Kalafina fans to fill out a questionnaire by the 30th Jan and your comments might be included in the magazine. :) CLICK ME to complete the questionnaire.
I've already filled it out and submitted it already. :) I'm not sure if anyone was daunted by the Japanese but in case some people didn't do it because they thought they had be a resident of Japan or something, I can safely tell you that you don't need to be a resident of Japan to submit your comments. You can just select "その他" in the drop-down menu that asks for which prefecture or town you come from and you will still be able to submit your replies.
In case anyone needs a simple translation and how-to guide, I'll do it after I talk about the tokutens.
Kalafina also announced that there will be tokutens given out with the pre-order and purchase of this publication.
Let me go through the tokutens and a little bit more additional info about this release.
This will be a A5 size release and will consist of 230 pages and will cost 1500 yen. The book will not only have interviews with Wakana, Keiko and Hikaru, there will also be a long interview with their producer Kajiura Yuki. I think the book may also include comments form other cross-genre artists? At least I think that's what they are saying.
You can pre-order this release on Kadokawa's official site and at the FictionJunction Club webstore.
The Kadokawa pre-order period is from the 23rd Jan to 5th Feb. CLICK ME.
They will be giving out 3 tokutens with the pre-order.
1) A message mail from Kalafina personalized with the purchaser's name.
2) An autographed digital wallpaper for use on a PC, Smartphone or mobile phone.
3) A special postcard A.
The FictionJunction Club pre-order period is from the 23rd Jan to ??. I don't think they stated when the pre-order ends, although they did say that they will begin shipping on the 3rd March. CLICK ME to purchase. (Note that you will have to be an FJC member to purchase this)
1) special cover
2) mini clear file
They will be selling this at the Budokan too and the special cover will be the same. You will have to purchase this through the FJC webstore to get the mini clear file though. They will not be giving this out at the FJC booth at the Budokan.
You can also purchase this book at Animate stores. Animate stores will be giving out the following tokuten.
1) special postcard B
It looks like you will not need to pre-order to get this tokuten.
I'm thinking someone may have already translated this for English speaking fans but I'll do it anyway.
To fill out that questionnaire, you'll have to first go to this page. CLICK ME
You should see this:
Click the big button that says "プライバシーに同意して答えする".
It means that you agree to the "privacy policy" written out here and are willing to answer the questionnaire.
You will then see a page that looks like this:
Answer the following questions:
By the way, you don't have to use your real name. They accept nicknames / pen names. And although they are asking for "furigana", the web form will still work if you don't type in hiragana.
After you're done, click that button below. The one that says "入力内容確認". It means something like "confirm input".
You should see a page that looks like this:
By the way, I made up those answers for the purpose of this post. What I actually submitted wasn't this of course. :)
If you are ready to submit, hit the button on the right that says "入力完了" which means something like "input finished".
If you want to make amends, hit the button on the left that says "戻る" which means "return".
If you hit "入力完了", you should see this:
And you're done. That button at the bottom just closes the window for you.
Now I'm not sure if they are accepting anything not written in Japanese but my answers were a mix of Japanese and English. :) I don't know if they'll publish it but I thought that I would just try anyway. :)
Have fun guys and don't forget that the deadline is the 30th Jan which is pretty soon. So if you intend to participate, please do so soon. :)
Okay... I'm off to sleep.... 3:10am... yikes!!! :P
p.s. not going to to a proper grammar / spelling check etc... so please bear with any glaring mistakes. good night. :)

I really want it, but does Kadokawa even ship to overseas addresses?
M: Since it's Red and Blue, will your costumes be red and blue based as well? *laughs*
H: Well... I guess it probably would *laughs*
K: Wouldn't it be weird? If we just went with green, for example? *laughs*
H: Out of the blue?! (TN: PUN NOT INTENDEDDDDDDDDDDDddddd) *laughs*
W: Or don't tell me.. yellow? *laughs*
M: "No way"?
W: "Eh?" and the like *laughs*
M: To turn up in a colour you did not expect *laughs*
【文化放送】リッスン? ~Live 4 Life~ 小松未可子 2015/01/27 Guest: Kalafina
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm25443797
Kalafina drops in at around 26:56-49:37 + HB
They continue to talk about Kalafina a little after that.
It was a live broadcast late at night.
Special service because I thought it was a very interesting and funny interview.
Summary (?):
Kalafina was on at around 1.25am JST. Mikako (M) asks if the three of them feel sleepy.
W: No, something like that... ...just a little. *laughs*
By this time,
Hikaru would be lying in bed, unable to fall sleep just yet. So pretty much her prepping to sleep time, reading her book and stuff.
Keiko, recently because it's close to an upcoming live, will be reading up on music scores and stuff. She knows she has to mind her condition but because she becomes conscious of it, she usually fails and she goes about her usual routine.
Wakana.... would have already been asleep as she usually sleeps at 11.30pm. She falls asleep pretty quickly, regardless of whether it's right before a live or not. She does feel pressure when it's before a live but she sleeps because she knows she has to.
K: Waka-chan looks like she's the sleepiest~
Talk about their 7th anniversary.
They've been doing it yearly ever since their 5th as every year after that felt equally important. Allows them to start the year off with fanclub members, allows them to look back at what they've accomplished thus far, and what they want to do from there. Both W and K want to continue this tradition.
W: At first, there was a lot that we didn't know about each other. What kind of person is Keiko-chan? What kind of person is Hikaru-chan? And what should I do to convey my feelings and appeal to them?
K: What are we, lovers!? *laughs* We're fellow members! *laughs*
(oops. pardon me)
W: Really, at lives, it is more difficult amongst members to align our feelings than it is to convey our feelings to fans through our music. "What is everyone thinking about?" by now, we pretty much see through one another *laughs*. Our own feelings are exposed to each other, and we each understand each other a lot. In that sense, we've changed a lot since then.
M: So you're really close now?
W: Very much so *laughs*
(one of the other two, probably keiko, laughs in the back)
M: So do you go out together a lot?
W: We pretty much spend everyday together at work, and our time together during rehearsals is pretty long. So we have a lot of time to talk to each other.
Talk goes back to 7th Anniversary, to the live specifically.
K : Tsutaya O-East is where we had our very first solo live. So in commemoration of that, it's a very important venue to us. Going back there really brings back memories of the time when had just made our debut.
K: I think it's very good that every year, since our 5th anniversary, that we are able to return there. Since it's a fanclub limited live, we are able to kick off our year and gather our feelings.
M: Returning to your roots/original purpose. That's amazing, to return and perform every year, to where you made your debut.
K: Yes. I don't want to lose this (tradition).
W: It also allows us to have a new aim, which is to always continue on (with Kalafina)
There's some talk about how the all standing hall feels different from concert halls, where everyone sits down and leisurely listens to Kalafina. Physically, the audience is a lot closer to the stage, and there is a lot of energy, so much so that Keiko isn't sure where they're getting it from.
Mikako-san then turns the topic to the Kalafina Red/Blue budokan lives and, firstly, congratulates them on the sold out performance.
K: It's really because of everyone. Thank you! Really!
Each day will feature songs from the respective albums.
K: We've already started preparing. We have not started on the whole but individually, we have all started preparing ourselves in various ways.
Keiko then says that this live will probably be easy on first timers as it features many of their songs that were in the singles, and are likely songs that they might have heard somewhere before. Each and every song is rich (?) so they're gonna need their energy!
H: Yes, we would love for them to bring their energy.
K: Yes... which is why they/we have to manage their/our health*laughs*
W: That includes those who are coming! Everyone!
K: No coming with a hangover! I'll get angry! *laughs*
(To which Kajiura tweets: Budokan live. Participating with a hangover is forbidden *laughs*. Better be careful ... (^▽^;))
W: Please come with a healthy body.
K: I'll remind everyone a week before on the blog... so let's all manage our health together *laughs*
- Yume no daichi + CM -
They greet the listeners again and are a little out of sync, unsure whether they should greet with a good evening or to introduce themselves first. Oops.
M: Let your guard down, didn't you? *laughs*
W: I'm awakkkee.
Here they read some mail from the listeners, first of whom asks if there's something they always do before a live.
Hikaru says they will always form a circle and put their hands together with the FBM. They will then stealthily do it a second time, with just the three of them. If they don't do it, Hikaru says she would go "Ah! We need to do that!" "We've not done it yet!!". And they would usually do it by the side, right before they have to go on stage.
Wakana says that they would give every staff member a high five before going on stage and would also go "Ah! We forgot to do our high fives!" if she were to forget.
K: We do it with everyone, right?
W: Yes, everyone. The stage director, the make up artist, the manager. We'd go "Waaa" and smack, smack, smack. (TN: LOL. Uhh. I'm not sure how to translate this part but .. I suppose it would go like this? It might have become a little more comical than intended)
M: Is there anything else that you would do?
W: We would shout "Maiya iyaaa!" (when they form a circle)
M: Maiya iyaa??!
W: This is, well, one of the lyrics from one of our songs. It's a made up language, one created by our producer, Kajiura Yuki-san. It's the maiya iyaa from a song called "Ongaku". We'd shout exactly as it is, not EI-EI-OH, but MAIYA IYAA.
K: Now that I think about it, it sounds suspicious doesn't it...
M: You'd think it was some sort of curse *laugh*
K: Who decided on it????
W: Eh? Who indeed...?
W: We had an event a day back (referring to LisAni). We did it where there were quite a number of bystanders around. We formed a circle and went "Let's go! On three! MAIYA IYAAA!" with a loud voice. I wonder what kind of face they made after that *laughs* - the people around us who didn't know about it.
H: The band members said that it was embarrassing *laughs*
K: They did *laughs*
M: (others would go) What in the world is that mysterious shout *laughs*
W: They'd go "What is that???" wouldn't they. It's what we always do.
K: Now that I think about it, it's amazing. Just what is that?
H: It just somehow became something we did.
M: Perhaps the fans would do it amongst themselves too. Right before a live, everyone could do it with a shout.
H: Maiya iyaa? *laughs*
W: "Let's goooo!"? *laughs* That would be interesting *laughs*
Another mail asks what kind of stage the budokan live will be, if it has been decided? Of course, they're still in the midst of shaping it out.
H: At the very least, we want to surprise the album listeners. That this is what the song will become when it's performed live. That we would sing certain parts in a certain way or how certain parts of the song changes. We would like for them to enjoy the world Kalafina creates with that in mind. And of course, it's the Budokan. I think that it would be great if we could show everyone a Kalafina live that can only be done at the Budokan.
M: Since it's Red and Blue, will your costumes be red and blue based as well? *laughs*
H: Well... I guess it probably would *laughs*
K: Wouldn't it be weird? If we just went with green, for example? *laughs*
H: Out of the blue?! (TN: PUN NOT INTENDEDDDDDDDDDDDddddd) *laughs*
W: Or don't tell me.. yellow? *laughs*
M: "No way"?
W: "Eh?" and the like *laughs*
M: To turn up in a colour you did not expect *laughs*
W: But we would really like for them to look forward to it and come. When we first announced that we were going to do a live at the budokan, the audience in the live back then gave us an overwhelming response. They said "congratulations!" and gave us an amazing round of applause. There were even some who cried in joy for us.
W: Looking at that, I think "Ah. They're happy for us" and it makes me really happy. Which is why we really want to give them the best performance that we have ever given. We're also really excited as we wait for that day to come. We would really like for them to look forward to it.
K: We'll be waiting with lots of fancy devices ♪
(TN: This is probably referring to the fancy lasers which I heard they busted out during the 7th Anniversary live, lol)
And that's about it. They bid their farewells and end with Heavenly Blue, probably because Mikako plays one of the character in Aldnoah Zero.
Summary. What is the definition of a summary again? lol
Ah well, it's not the complete transcript.
It still took a lot longer than expected. Orz
For all the wonderful comments that Kalafina gave us though, worth every bit of effort.
Special thanks to https://twitter.com/yu_ri_sunflower who made a transcript of the parts that she found interesting, which also happen to be most of what I found interesting. As you'd expect of a native listener. She caught a lot more than I ever could and made this a lot easier.
Now, if everyone would excuse me, I have a luggage to pack! I'm leaving for Japan tomorrow night and was totally not supposed to be doing this.
