The Kalafina stylists seem to agree with you, considering how they tailor a lot of Wakana's outfits (Magia PV and live tour, TTB PV, After Eden live...). Oddly, Wakana herself seems oblivious to, umm, her more attractive aspects, since she's constantly wearing long matronly dresses or unflattering tops with unflattering shorts.
Basically, for Wakana, better to emphasize her upper body. For Keiko, better to emphasize her legs.

instead of legs, they must emphasize keiko's abs!!!! or is that even possible with their style probably not oh well i can still dream
also please bring back the corsets. they work wonders for all three (showcasing wakana's more developed curves, elongating keiko's torso and flat stomach and hikaru's slenderness omg dat waist to hip ratio)

I wonder... So far, the discussion about how the utahime are dressed have been focused towards Hikaru, Keiko and Wakana. What about Yuriko Kaida and Kaori?
In the few instances of pictures of Yuriko Kaida, I guess she would be wearing more conservative clothing, probably because of her age...
As for Kaori, I guess her height compared to rest causes an interesting "problem", as you don't want her to be literally sticking out. Could it be the reason she is usually wearing darker colour dresses? Now, in the pictures of the most recent live in HK, it feels they are trying to match her too close to Keiko (down to the accessories). Uncertain whether this is a good thing or a bad thing, though. But, the one thing about Kaori is that she seem to only smile with closed lips. Yes, it might be mysterious but uncertain if that suits her.

I think the problem is :Keiko has a broader shoulder than the other girls, being the macho senpai she is so they think they should conceal it with weird shoulder thingy so people won't look at her shoulder and focus their attention somewhere else. Because for me, aside of the horribly horrible shoulder, I love the design they had for Keiko (like that red to the beginning live dresses, or to the beginning PV outfit.)'s dresses the most. It's just the shoulder ruin it all.

Well, I guess it's possible they have some input regarding their costumes. But Keiko choosing to wear the puffy shoulders herself doesn't mean it's the best look for her, XD. Though it does bring up the odd question... I like Keiko's outfits best when she's in casualwear, but like them least when it's Kalafina stage/PV costumes. Hmm...
Re: Wakana and conservative outfits. But she's totally fine with more "risque" stuff on stage, if we're going with the assumption that they've got some control over their outfits! And she's only a year older than Keiko--not likely to make her any more conservative for age reasons, unless they're intentionally setting her up as the older sister figure. Maybe she just wears the long dresses 'cause they're comfortable? I can accept that (well, she can wear a shark suit all day and I'll still be a fan). I just hope there's no more peach shorts + black tights combos, lol.

I like how Kaori was dressed in Vol.9 and the recent Hong Kong live. I... really didn't like her Vol.2 or Vol.4 dresses. I think somewhere between 4 and 9, the stylists figured out how to dress her, XD. Also, I don't think they're are all that concerned about her height, since they're still putting her in heels (if they were worried, the simplest solution is to put the other girls in heels and have Kaori in flat shoes). In videos, her height really stands out, but if we're watching the concert in person, it's less of an issue for seats that aren't the first few rows.

I don't think the stylists have quite figured it out--either they get the outfit right but the make-up/camera angles look kinda weird (Stone Cold PV), or they frame her face right but the rest of the outfit looks a tad dumpy (Vol.9). But at least the recent outfits look like they're trying, instead basically giving up (how I felt about Yuriko's Vol.4 outfit... though Wakana's Vol.2 outfit was even worse in this regard).

First of all, thanks IB and George for splitting the thread. I guess we can now focus on this particular topic! 
Dresses look a bit weird or Kalafina style. In a way, it looks too happy (?) or festive (probably because of the flowers). I can envision they singing Mirai or Alleluia, maybe even Hikarifuru. However, I am uncertain of songs such as Manten, Ongaku or Kyrie. I guess if there is a video clip on-line for us to judge that? :)

Yeaaah I AGREE with you completely about Keiko. That curly hair + those flowers + those collar + that vest thingy is waaaayyy too much to put on her upper body. Now that Keiko got her hair long and straight, it's less fuzzy, crowded, fluffy (?) so she's much more beautiful.
About Hikaru playing safe, now I know what I really wanted to say when I said that. Hikaru always choose the same color and clothing style. She always choose black or white. She always opted for dress tucked into a medium-length skirt (like that ttb and Hikarifuru nicovideo live) or simple one piece dress (like Kimi no Gin nicovideo live and that photo from Acen).
Now it's in one thread. Let's have the 'girls talk' as George nicely said.

Yeaaah I AGREE with you completely about Keiko. That curly hair + those flowers + those collar + that vest thingy is waaaayyy too much to put on her upper body. Now that Keiko got her hair long and straight, it's less fuzzy, crowded, fluffy (?) so she's much more beautiful.

Well, they look better here than the CD covers, especially Keiko (less crowded, as Ritardando said). This might be the first time I like Wakana's dress least, by a sizable margin, when they're in Kalafina costume. That large rectangular collar really makes her shoulders look broad and her entire upper body seem... bulky. Not in a cool way either.
Hopefully they'll ditch these dresses soon and get a new set for the live performances. They've done it for past singles where the dresses were much better than this. Lol, sorry I still sound so grumpy about the outfits.

hrmmmm.... i always took that to mean that she didn't want to make her face any wider by smiling with her teeth showing, since she already has a pretty defined face/jawline.
kaori's fashion... (FJC) stage-wise, no matter what she wears, she looks like a giant especially since she's always next to keiko... but i wouldn't move her for the world. i think the stage dresses and shoes they give her definitely make her long legs seem longer. is it no wonder that she was a model before? i think the stylists are on the right track, imo.

as for civilian wear... i think what she usually wears suits her t-shirts and things like that, as well as short-shorts (based on her tweets). they make her seem young/youthful, and it fits so she should stick with it 
as for yuriko's fashion.... i don't think i've seen enough pics of her in civilian mode to get a feel but for some reason, i think she dresses similar to... wakana, actually. hmmmm. clearly the solution to this is for yuki to take more pics of yuriko, since they seem to hang out like all the time when YK isn't composing (and sometimes when she is)

During FJ live, I guess they've got Yuriko and Keiko in the middle because they're the shorter ones--if we put Kaori and Wakana in the middle, Kaori would look like a giant and Yuriko + Keiko would just disappear into the sidelines.

Coral, isn't Wakana about 2.5cm taller than Keiko? If so, I am certain heels plus distance from stage would render that difference pretty much unnoticeable. However, yeah, if you put Kaori in the middle of the stage, she would pretty much overshadow the rest. Actually, come to think about it, Kaori placed on the far end (from Yuki) might be the best, there is also a lot of focus on Kajiura Yuki herself in the Lives. And that, would overshadow the rest again.
IB, from the few pictures here and there, Kaori seems to be able to easily switch different type of attires. As per this link in the blog section. Probably the fact she is younger than the rest....?

^I don't know Wakana's exact height, but judging from pics, she's definitely more than just 2.5 cm taller than Keiko. Anyway, that's not the point of my post, I specified that Kaori would tower over everyone if she stood in the middle. Having Wakana with her would just heighten the effect, since FJ as a whole would look triangle-shaped.
Heh, in the pic you posted, I can accept Wakana's skirt and leggings. But that shirt is, well, quite baggy. It does look warm and comfy though, so whatever floats her boat...
