Yeah... I'm gonna vote no to both the new dresses and the Sprinter dresses.

Belts are way too big. And argh, looks like it's Wakana's turn for the huge poofy sleeves. I don't have a problem with different colours and flora patterns, but the way it all came together was... messy. The hairstyles are nice though, especially Wakana's braid.

Sprinter dresses do look shabby by today's standards. I guess that means... their outfits have been improving at least? I think the Fairytale dresses would've worked a bit better. Ah well, at least they didn't bring back the Seventh Heaven cover.

Wouldn't be surprised if George's speculation was true, lol.

I revive this thread with the power of heavenly blue that believes in me! :XD:

I would like to know which dresses from Kalafina PV/Album that you guys like the most, and also their live dresses that is not their album/single dresses. Here are my personal choices :

For album/single dresses :

1. to the beginning
2. believe (not really sure but I like what I see so far)
3. Kagayaku Sora no Shijima ni wa
4. symphonia PV dresses/After Eden cover
5. the black dresses in Red Moon RE Cover

I love to the beginning dresses the most, they are just gorgeous. I really like what I see so far in believe dresses. The concept is good, the accessories are cool, and the color choice is also brilliant. Kagayaku Sora's dresses really fit the anime it's used in, they looked so elegant with white long dresses and black corsets, the only complain is Wakana's hat. I really like their symphonia dresses. It's the start of Keiko getting dresses with high neck and double sleeves, Wakana getting one sleeved-dresses, and Hikaru with no sleeve. I'm really sad they chose to wear those skimpy red dresses for Red Moon instead of the more gorgeous black ones.

Live dresses :

1. THE GOWN/DRESSES THEY WORE IN CHRISTMAS LIVE 2013.
2. their black-blue dresses from their Magia tour - the one they wore on Animax Musix 2011
3. the brown dresses they also wore on Animax Musix 2011
4. the black dresses from their Red Moon live

Their live dresses are often bad imo but I think those dresses I listed are my favorites because my memory is rather fuzzy right now.

@ritardando wow my tastes are so similar to yours

Album/singles:
  • Magia - I could stare at them in those outfits all day
  • Kagayaku - I kinda have a soft spot for Victorian-style dresses. And long dresses, for that matter.
  • After Eden (symphonia) - until you mentioned it, ritardano, I never noticed that this was when the weird sleeves started lol
  • believe - so far they are just gorgeous
  • to the beginning
  • progressive
Dresses that I only love one or two of the three:
  • Hikaru's Hikari Furu dress
  • Wakana's Consolation dress - I ADORE THIS DRESS (the one on the album cover, not the modified live ver one). I actually have one that resembles it, but it's white rather than black with a lighter blue.
  • Hikaru's and Keiko's Kimi no Gin dresses - (I think I'm one of the few who like these lol)
  • Wakana's Red BEST dress
  • Hikaru's storia dress
  • Keiko's Hikari no Senritsu dress
Live:
  • Black Red Moon dresses - absolutely agree that they should have worn the black dresses rather than the red ones. However, I still like the red ones to a degree.
  • Cream Magia dresses
  • Black/blue Magia dresses
  • Xmas Live 2013 - swoon
  • Kagayaku purple-gold-black dresses
Only one/two:
  • Keiko's 5th anniversary live white dress
  • Hikaru's and Wakana's heavenly blue live dresses (though I would do without the collar thing on Hikaru's)

omg we do have a really similar taste! I also love Keiko's Hikari no Senritsu dress, Hikaru's storia dress and Wakana's dress in the BEST album. and progressive dresses for honorable mention. I like Magia dress as well but they're too...heavy? I don't know how to describe it but yeah Magia dresses are really cool, and the execution is also brilliant. I need moar Kalafina in leather.

You know, I was thinking about making a topic about dresses the other day as I hadn't seen one, but evidently such a thing already exists.

Luckily despite the quality of the dresses the girls look good in most things :w00t:. Some are better than others though, for sure. I still don't particularly like the Kimi no Gin dresses, and I still don't like the Seventh Heaven style at all. I love the After Eden dresses though, they're so long and floofy but something about them just works for me. Consolation's dresses are a personal favourite of mine too, they look absolutely gorgeous, whilst Red Moon's regular black dresses are lovely too, although I'm not quite as sold on the red ones. The Best ones are nice though, although I'm not so sure on Keiko's. Those translucent sleeves and basic top just look a little off to me, especially considering the other two's dresses which are a lot more elaborate and suit them better in my opinion.

As for the singles, I adore the To the Beginning dresses so much. I'd still say they hold my attention the most and all three of them look amazing . I am really quite impressed by Believe's outfits too and I like Storia's aesthetic. Hikari Furu's are nice and elegant, but they've done 'long white dresses' so many times now, not that I'm complaining. Talking of such things, their dresses for the Christmas Live 2013 :dote:. Those are just plain out gorgeous.

Also I seem to be the only one who actually likes the dresses like those in my signature. They're relatively simple but I think it works, you know. Never at any point when I was there was I thinking 'you know, these dresses aren't very nice'. I also like those flowery/white ones they were wearing during Japan Expo and Animelo's live.

For the most part, I like the top pieces of those dresses, but the skirts and belts are just...idk. And the green and blue pieces of fabric. I just think they could have made them look so much better, especially with that lovely flowy-flowery fabric.

EDIT: oh oh I forgot about these old fairytale/halloween/anipara dresses that I like

EDIT2: and huh, I really like Keiko's dress from the early progressive lives

I have never seen those Halloween dresses before. They're adorable.

I really want them to bring back the corsets... :ohoho:

Anyways, I pretty much have the same list as aki and ritardando. I would have loved Wakana's symphonia dress significantly more if she didn't wear that megaphone-shaped hand cuff thing :XD: I also loved the Hikari no Senritsu dresses, actually. They just looked...well-made? Not sure if right word XD

There were also a lot of dresses from pamphlets and photoshoots which I've loved, like the atelier x pierrot ones, and these ones:

IMG_3335.JPG

Yeah... actually there are many dresses from photoshoots/pamphlets which I've ended up liking more than album/single dresses.

^That is what aki said 'cream Magia dress' and what I said as 'brown dresses they wear in Animax Musix 2011' (they wore it when they perform nowhere).

I only like bit here and there on the dresses. Personally, there is no dress I feel hit the the bulls-eye. Even being generic or actually gaudy is more acceptable than the concoction they are wearing now. It just feels so disconnected

For some nagging reason, it feels a little too much like Katy Perry resale given to Kalafina. Or someone else where that difference is practically impossible to tell.:plot::barf::white::ohoho::spotlight: :XD::swt::tea::knife::baka:I probably seen way too many European style clothing, that isn't even working on mediocre standard by unknown brand.

Keiko: Her hair stands out too much. That also ruins the hat or other accessory she is wearing. That in terms ruins the overall look for the dress. On the bust, it tends to go wrong either at her upper chest. Which is proably not wide enough or the proportions she is getting are still too short. Corset for her are a mix bag. Sometime is works or times, its one of the worst decision to to wear. Other ones, they aren't bad, but at the same time they don't fully it.

Hikaru and Wakana: It literally shouldn't be a problem for Hikaru. She just ends up applying it a the wrong place and wrong time. It isn't that she doesn't know it. Though it takes way too long for her to get it down. She practically has a impossible time to maintain it the looks though. Hikaru forget the arms and neck way too often though that generally bring down her look

Wakana: First, stop doing that angle when it comes to camera. You somehow make Mizuki Nana look better for doing the exact same thing. Not that the difference is going to matter, this is getting a little too ridiculous. Wakana, just avoid puffy. Otherwise it is making you look puffier. Stop trying to show more skin. Seriously, you aren't lady gaga, Madonna, Shakira!!!:knife::glower::stupidtable:

I don't know it's a matter of wording or what but I can only get around 50% of what you said/wrote. Some of my rebuttals :
- I don't think Keiko's hair stands out too much it makes the accessories she wear look bad. Sure, she's the utahime with distinct/trademark hairstyle since their debut, but most time it's not her hair that makes her hair accessory doesn't work. It's the hair accessory that's simply meh. For example, the white shower puff she wore in live vol.9. If anything, since she rarely gets her hair done (as in, most time her hair is just straight just like that, without being modeled/styled), it makes most of her hair accessories accentuates her hair, they somewhat cover the fact that Keiko almost never get her hair styled, and does not make her head look big/full. (ie. progressive, to the beginning, live vol.4, and bunch others.) Failures : live vol.9 shower puff, Kimi no Gin no Niwa PV (Keiko please never let the stylist curl your hair like that ever!)
- I agree with her dresses mainly have problems, but most time it's the shoulder part that looked horrible/doesnt make sense at all.
- I completely agree with Wakana should avoid wearing something puffy (for example, Kimi no Gin no Niwa dress) but I think Wakana shows enough skin and not too much. If anything, her sexiest part of the body is her collarbone and she should show that more often. She should avoid one-sleeved dresses though. Those dresses will look better if they had no sleeve at all, but still with diagonal neck line. Imagine to the beginning, symphonia, and the best album dresses without the sleeves. Dayum.
- I don't get what you meant about Hikaru so I'll leave it at that.

I seen way too many idols with this hair style though. They even had terrible accessories and they made it work. And it isn't the accessory, it is from the lack of layering in the hair. In addition, a lot of those accessory problem is they aren't following the flow of the hairline. It isn't that hard. This isn't one of those hairstyle that anyone can wear. The only time I even remotely seen it good was with any form a layering. It establishes a flow, which is very lacking. I never seen one without any layering whatever look good. The other issue is that it ends up looking like a helmet. For that literally requires to person to know everything about their look down to a dot. I don't think Keiko has it down to a dot when it comes to looks. Looking big isn't an issue, its about not making it look so out of place. Which is the main core problem this hairstyle has unless they really know how to interpret all the way through. The slightest flaw is going to get them notice, that is how little room they have on this style. Even her hair tips is going to matter, that is literally the degree it has to be on to be called successful. Otherwise, they notice more than stray hairs when it isn't sharp enough. Which is going to ruin the effect this hairstyle has when their are other people.

She doesn't have to to that much to show off the collar bone. What I meant on Hikaru is generally does know to do when it comes to clothing, when she isn't failing in a spectacular way.

Now I honest to God don't know what you're talking about and which hair accessory(s) that doesn't flow (?) the hairline...or her hair accessory that ends up looking like helmet. Are we talking about her everyday dresses or her Kalafina dresses? Plus I don't get a thing about layering in the hair. Does anyone else understand?

Wow, I though you knew fashion very well. That does mean both and performance dresses. The focus now is on their formal dresses. If they can't get formal right, then there is major problem. This is where people separate themselves in drastic way. On the layering, Keiko hair is too dull and is disconnected from her actual look she is wearing. Which is why it looks out of place, which it require her to do more sci-fi or dark style look to make it work. Other time it works for cute, but they must be ultra cute and not in an ordinary way. Otherwise, it loses not only the princess style look, but also the fantasy part of it as well. It could incorporate more styles. Keiko is wearing is the standard Japanese hime style cut. Yet she doesn't do anything to adjust the dresses and hair to make it work. Which is the key problem on this cut is how specific it is. Why else would it end up gaining that kind of name? It isn't something is completely versatile.

Other than a type of punk look that would work as well with that hair. The helmet is is when the hair looks too much like a cookie cutter. It has no trim and little edge. That is what I mean it becomes a lot like a helmet. It also is thick and dense like one. It is a moniker and not for a good reason. Which is why it is such a tough style to pull off. By hairline, it is the direction for hair flow from. Some people have it from the left, right, center, or any other ways. Keiko always wears her performance hat on the wrong side most of the time. It's has to be more left. This isn't a pin, clip, stick,,or flower, where you have far more free control over it.
