OMG, the topic's back in action. This time, will someone finally move it to Otakuland?
Btw, I finished FF7 quite a while ago, and while I can't call it the VERY best in the series, it's definitely a great game in its own right.
Now I'm playing FF8, and I like it a lot, too. although I burnt all my nerves trying to banish a "Random" rule in Dollet.
all in vain... 
Speaking of ratings in general, I can list the games I've played so far (sans FF9 which I'll be replaying from scratch) in this order.
credit for gameplay: FF2, FF5, FF8
credit for storyline: FF4, FF6, FF7.

I've only played Dissidia & FF XIII (It's not ended yet)...
