Ok. I somehow skipped the previous page... I'm sorry that took your attention. :barf:

Okay, here is my review.
  1. Kibō no hikari- I usually don’t like bagpipes, but she makes them work in this series. I did not care for My Story all that much, so I think this tune is a little better. I know it’s similar, but it’s nice.
  2. nigiyaka na hibi- A happy melody. I remember some of the scenes it was used in and smile. It makes want to close my eyes and think of me in a ball dancing. (I can’t dance worth crap. Heh) Really like this one.
  3. Endless Echoes- Not what I was expecting this song to be. It’s played a LOT in the show, but I like it. It’s for happier times.
  4. Hana sensei, ganbaru- This one caught me by surprise when I heard it on the show. I thought “Is it really her composing this one?” I thought it was pretty, and has an uplifting melody that makes me want to dance.
  5. hime goto- This one is played in a lot of sad scenes, with Renko and everything, so it’s a little sad to listen to, but it’s a nice piano song. Nice and relaxing. I can close my eyes and let everything wash away.
  6. ko pittona !- I LOVE this song! It’s just… so awesome. I love her Celtic sounding songs anyways, but this one is just great. It reminds me of Spice and Wolf and one of the Slayers songs in the very beginning. Really nice, will be listening to it a lot.
  7. zettai zetsumei !-This one is very interesting and unlike Yuki. I thought it was an interesting piece and I like these types of songs.
  8. Nazo- Don’t like the beginning of the song, but then the violin! I like the melody, reminds me of te to a bit, just because of the Arabian style I guess. And sort of like Venari Strigas. I think it’s okay.
  9. akari no moto ni # 2- A guitar version of a song in the 1st ost. Nice.
  10. Accident !- I really like this song. This is when Renko opened the windows I think when she was still “married” it gives off a nice dramatic feel, and feels like a war theme to me, maybe not the one wat was looking for though. (Now we have Scandal and Accident! Heh)
  11. mayou kokoro- This one I don’t care for all that much. I don’t know, it’s the melody, it’s strange to me for some reason. The violins are too high or something, maybe if it was lower it would be okay. It’s kind of relaxing, but also was played during sad scenes.
  12. My Story # 2-A guitar version of this one. I like it kind of better actually.
  13. kyō ga hajimaru- This is a nice happy tune. Made me want to forget about everything that I was dealing with. Love the piano (especially in the middle and end) and strings on this one.
  14. soredemo mae e-A very lovely, melancholy song. Nice song to listen to before bed to relax. heh
  15. nenashigusa # 2- Another accordion song.
  16. Manazashi- LOVE LOVE LOVE this song!!! It’s probably my second favorite, with Light behind the Clouds being my first. But this song is so simple, yet amazing! It reminds me of Assassin’s Creed 2’s music, which I loved, and the Sherlock Holmes movie music (by Hans Zimmer) a little. It’s just so great, fell in love with the sample and now I have the whole song! Don’t remember this much in the show though. Makes me want to go to the Renaissance Faire right now! lol
  17. tabidachi no toki- Another nice trumpet song. I can see Hanako with her head up high every time I hear this song. It’s very Yuki but the trumpet gives a new feeling to it.
  18. Tokyo Days- This one I did not like at first, but it grew on me. It’s jazzy, makes me think of the black and white movies with no sound, the silent movies. Like it, even my mom liked it. Very un-Kajiura.
  19. Happening !- Eh, did not like it. Just sounded like the others like it.
  20. My Wings- Very nice. Bagpipes are a little weird, but nice melody with them. It’s the theme of the show I think.
  21. kokō no hito # 2- Love this song from the last album, so I like just the dulcimer version, of course. Kind of creepy.
  22. kimi o mimamoru hitomi- Very nice, love the trumpet. The string melody is so nice. It is a nice and calming song, though I think they used it in a few sad scenes, like after Ayumu passed away. But I like it very much.
  23. nani !?- Lol at the title and the song, again the string melody is nice, it’s just a weird song for Yuki to compose, so this one had me saying is this her? Along with the next one.
  24. hitokuse aru hito tachi- Very jazzy. Was not expecting this from her at all. I think there were a lot like that in this series over all. It reminds me of the Roger Rabbit movie actually and the music in that. Have not seen it in a long time, but still remember. Like the guitar.
  25. nanigenai hibi- I like the soft melody and the guitar. It reminds me of a Kenshin song. The flute is nice too. Quite nice.
  26. For Ever and Ever- I laughed at the title since it was what Ms Blackburn said a lot, but it’s different from what I thought it would be. I love this piano song. The chords are just gorgeous, I wish I could learn to play this one. It has so much emotion it makes me want to cry every time. Probably a favorite.
  27. tanoshii omoi-Another happy dance melody. I want to get up and twirl around, but that would make me dizzy. Heh I like it, even though it sounds cutesy (I think there was one like this in SAO GGO as well.) nice song.
  28. Another Palpitation- Then it goes into a waltz with a bit of weirdness. I like it, and the title. Love the flute.
  29. Kizuna-Was surprised at how much I loved this song. Kind of different for Yuki, I think anyways. Love the part at 1:27 a lot.
  30. kizuna # 2- Just the harp version, very nice though.
  31. a shock- This one is very cool. Reminds me of KnK with the original Fate Stay/Night soundtrack (I know she didn’t compose it, just thinking it sound similar) Love the piano at the end..
  32. natsukashii ano koro- This one is okay. Pretty violin and viola.
  33. sakamichi no ue de ame ga agaru- Love this song in the show, so of course I love it here. Sounds like it could be in a movie at a big love scene ending or something.
  34. ima o ikiru- Love this song too! Probably one of my favorites. The beginning with the viola is just so… it makes me melt. Then it goes into the happy flute/strings song, and everything is good.
  35. Light behind the Clouds- Oh how I love this song. It reminds me of Faith a bit from RHH ost 3, but not all of it. There’s a definite difference, and I love it for it. I hope there are more songs like this from Yuki and Hanae in the future, love her angelic sounding voice in this, it sounds like a church choir almost. I am in love with it. It’s so short though! Oh well. Love it.
All in all I loved the whole soundtrack. There were a few of course I did not care for, but I thought it was good. I don’t know, I found myself going “is this really Yuki?” a couple of times, not as many as the 1st ost, but still. She surprises me still with her excellent music skills Favorites: 35, 16, 6, 10, 17, 18, 22, 26. 31, 33, 34. I would give it an 8 out of 10.

Nice review Lliana. Compared to the first ost, this one isn't as folksy but I liked that change. It shows how the story changes from the village setting to Tokyo. As for my opinion, I don't like this Vol. quite as much as the last one. Like grunty said, the pieces are nice but you can tell they're bgm. If the tracks had been longer they could have developed into something more interesting. Of course this isn't a serious issue, it's just that the first vol. had a stronger stand alone sound. Still, this soundtrack has refreshed my faith in Kajiura. There are alot of tracks that really don't have her typical sound as well as a few tracks that truly came out of leftfield. I'm very happy to see that Kajiura is willing to take risks, at least when given the opportunity.

better images for picky George :)

here's my review:
1) ok I love the bagpipes. I love this track, especially the second half. I think this track is so grand and elegant, it could have been used in Braveheart.
2) nice happy song.
3)Endless Echoes - love the trumpet at the end. used a lot in the series, but it can stay fresh.
4) ok guys, clarinet here rules.
5)piano solo track in this soundtrack don't bother me which is a very good thing and unexpected. still simple in its composition but works.
6) love this too. the middle guitar section is gorgeous.
7) interestingly I don't see the credits to this one. I think I like this song.
8)overall nice strings but I could do without it.
9) now this is generic Kajiura. definition of minimalist new-age. still good.
10) Accident! - why is this in English? ok this sounds familiar but the bitter determination is well conveyed in percussion + strings.
11) meh. it's not bad but clearly it's done for the convenience of sad scenes.
12)My Story #2 - same as 9.
13) same as Liana's comment.
14) same as 13
15)such a bgm
16) delightful. again so simple and elegant.
17) trumpet may feel overwhelming but still great.
18) Tokyo days - right clarinet and trumpet rule. the guitar in the middle is great too. definitely one of favs.
19) same as 15
20)My Wings - one of favs. esp. percussion
21) again simple but love the dulcimer.
22) was waiting for this one! the orchestration is sublime. very well-written imo.
23) beginning motif sounds very Kajiura to me? again bgm.
24) same as 18 minus trumpet.
25) sounds like one of the happier songs in Mai-Hime. like the combo of percussion, guitar, flute.
26) For Ever and Ever - another piano-solo that doesn't bother me.
27) you think it will go on silly as it starts but it turns into a happy march. like it.
28) same as Liana
29) really beautiful. this took me by surprise very much. orchestration is again truly great. clarinet rules.
30) same as 15, still good bed-time relaxing music.
31) really nice. this one stands out as unique from others I think in a way.
32) same as Liana.
33) exactly the same as 29. This reminds me of the composer Georges Delerue (maybe time for another thread in Otakuland!) which says a lot.
34) same as Liana. utter joy. there is actually a piano version of this!! coming to sora's comment, it could have been merged with this one, making a whole track.
35) relaxing though nothing spectacular. I imagined it would be much better but this one was written fast imo.

I think what happened is we experienced a bit of a shock from the first ost and expected the variety and freshness of the ost1 here. Frankly, it feels there is enough variety here, if not as much as in ost1, especially with the use brass and pipes. Putting variety aside, what I value most here is the orchestration. The tracks I highlighted were very well-written ihmo and took me by surprise since this is what I wanted Yuki to do, delve into orchestral elements more and combine them with world-music instruments :) Apart from the usual filler tracks, this ost delivers and makes me hunger for more. I would put this ost on the same level as the first one excluding the shock I mentioned.

I feel the bgm issue too. The absence of tracks that can be used for a single scene only is a problem with drama shows like Hanako to Anne but for me, it's not an absolute necessity. One can only wish for more collab with NHK.

107 sad strings harp theme (earthquake)
94 war theme (at the end)
97 extra flute version of that dulcimer song from ost1
106 that arabian flute strings
113 guitar + trumpet + percussion (!!it was old after all haha) it's really good.
114 piano percussion
61 piano flute version of #34 of ost2
102 sad strings theme (mostly for renko, used previously.)

these are the ones I can think of and could find. there were a couple more missing I think.

Oh wow do I love Light behind the Clouds, my favorite from this album. It's just so... I don't know, lovely? It's so sad, yet it makes me think of a church with light streaming in the stain glass windows, onto my face, and me forgetting the world outside and just by myself in the church. It's so lovely. *sigh* I love it. Okay, I just though i'd say some extra stuff about the song, since it's so great. But where are the new episodes? couldn't play the last one since they deleted it on us. I thought it went to 156? I don't think that was an ending, unless it was. I want more! heh

Here;s 154: http://www.bilibili.com/video/av1561130/

FC2 deleted all recent episodes.

BTW, wat11, the percussion at the beginning sounds like bgm, and not part of the show. That makes another unreleased track!

04:42 - Flute+harp+strings. It's old, but not included in the soundtrack ;_;
6:54 - Harp. Same as above.

haha Liana, it's not bad but comparing it to the orchestral tracks, I expected more of Hanae and Kajiura that's all.
I don't where the new episodes are. I watched 154, it's not the ending.

@wat11 I know exactly what you mean with the orchestrations. Their length may not be where I want it to be but the pieces were beautifully written and have left me very eager to hear more from Kajiura. I truly, truly hope she gets the opportunity to one day work with a a big orchestra like the tokyo or warsaw philharmonic.

yes Kowz I thought so too. though I don't see how that would evolve.

oh yes the one at 04:42 was really nice too! I somehow expect new music in fact in the last episodes as a final touch.

spot on Sora. She has way more than enough material to work with in a big orchestra and have concerts, as in orchestral ones.

I would love to hear a fully orchestrated Yuki Kajiura live but that is probably never going to happen. After all, orchestras are very expensive and unless you're a world renowned, award winning composer like joe hisaishi or ryuichi sakamoto, it's probably impossible to hold a fully orchestrated performance in your name.

Yeah, but maybe that was the reason she went with more of a simple song for it? Since it was supposed to be during the more melancholic scenes and everything. (Kind of like faith in RHH, which I love as well.) But I was just saying that I love it. Yes, I would love full orchestra doing some of these songs as well. It would be interesting to hear that and new ones.

Also I know it wasn't the end, but you said it ends I think at 156 right wat? Bilibili also did a weird thing with 153 where I could not click on it. I will try again though.

^ @sora It's not as difficult as all that - the one-off Haruhi Suzumiya orchestral concert was great, and Nana Mizuki has had a couple of orchestral concerts. Some orchestras do a lot of backing popular artists or music of well-known artists.

A professional orchestra can rehearse a completed score in less than a week - getting a good score together is the main task and having the right other musicians and vocalists isn't much more work.

yes it's 156 Liana.
http://www.bilibili.tv/video/av1564406/ 155

as for the orchestra business, this also has been discussed many many times and the conclusion is that it's certainly doable. Kajiura has many contacts and no reason why she shouldn't do it. She definitely has the orchestral background so she has the means and skills to manage a good score. There was a Madoka concert after all :)
