Why exclude OSTs when easily some of the best stuff was from those? Dunno if 'Quiet Romance' (from Garden of Sinners films)was ever performed live, but it's amazing and deserves love. Look, I know, insert 'any track you personally think is awesome' into that last sentence, but let's not limit our options. I mean, we ARE fans, right--who's going to love the less-traveled paths if we're not,eh..?

Anw regarding the artist introduction thing, as I mentioned before, it is just a vague idea as of now, and it doesn't have to be about musicians with yr nationality, or even someone with a clear identity. Now that I think abt it, it should be much easier to write about something instead of someone. The idea is just to introduce something/someone artistic and/or cool that YK (and other CPMers maybe) might look at and go "ooh, I should check that out when I feel like it :ayashii:", preferably when she comes to yr country/region/where u live (I understand a lot of us aren't living in our home countries). I'm sure there's always been instances when u see something/discover someone cool and thought "Maybe YK will like this!" or "this person/thing reminds me of YK somehow :TdT:"
On that note, I didn't intend to narrow down to only local musicians, since that will limit many of us who do not really listen to our local music or can't think of any local musician to introduce to her, as u guys mentioned. I also don't know any trending artist from my country or really understand its traditional music tbh.
Ofc, it's not that likely that whatever each of us come up with will actually interest her at first glance, but when viewed as a whole, I'm sure she'll find it interesting. She might even flip through it sometimes so the idea of going on a world tour and/or playing her music in certain ways will slowly grow in her mind:psst:

So, yea, anything goes as long as it's justifiable: a super cool concert hall she would absolutely want to perform in or watch a performance in (e.g. Esplanade in Singapore or Dolby Theater in the U.S.), an avant-garde restaurant, chocolate factory X (ofc make sure she has access), musician (group) X whose style is Y, a traditional genre of music from yr country, a very bada** street musician who always frequent spot X in city Y on rainy days, an absolutely stunning cathedral/temple/mosque/building (again, make sure she's allowed to go in), a monument for occasion X, a forest that looks exactly like yr imagination of song X by her, a super cool cyclist yes she's been quite into cyclists these days, artist X who draws with bacteria etc. :XD:

Dang--I'm liking this idea! Reminds me of when I sent her stuff from The Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame from my home state of Ohio in hopes of encouraging her to visit the US Midwest someday(the Great Lakes region would be a good spot for her to attempt a Live, close to Canada,there's a high concentration of anime fans in the region,etc.,but I digress...). I, for one,could definitely recommend some US music she might love, as some of her tastes mirror mine already(Mike Oldfield, ABBA, Depeche Mode, etc.), which might be why her music resonates personally with me like few other composers/artists do. So if we do this, how/where do we start?
 
Question: how are we delivering this gift to her? In the past it was via electronic format to her spacecraft agent am I right? What's the new way to contact her?

Hmm, first, is there still enough time to conduct a simple poll (3-5 days) to see which idea the majority prefers? (like in previous years) We have a lot of lurkers and I'm sure most of them want to participate. I roughly estimated that from previous years we have 27-100+ participants each year depending on the theme, so if we get 20+ responses for the poll it should be considered legit?

Second, if we're going with the artist recommendation idea, there're some stuffs that need clarification:
  • Should there be an upper page limit or artist limit per person? Normally it makes sense to have one but this time we only have around 1 month left to gather materials, so there might be much fewer participants (and thus content) than the recent years.
  • For recommended artists, will we limit it to only musicians (locally or elsewhere), or are we considering other forms of art as well? And does it have to be about people only? (e.g. can one recommend her a theater or statue etc.) I know in my previous post I said anything goes, but I'm not sure if u guys are ok with that.
  • How do we attach videos/audios to the finished thing? I think we should put a link and/or QR code in the book to a folder with all uploaded media neatly labelled and credited, and things with officially released link from the artist should be placed directly in the articles. But we could attach the links individually if that's better.
    Anw, abt this, I'm concerned abt copyrights and song loyalty. I know we often freely share stuffs here and elsewhere, but this is a sensitive matter for artists such as YK, so we should be clear that we support and respect the artists we recommend to her.

I'm sure a lot of music we have are from, well, unofficial sources *cough* u know what I mean *cough*. However, if we're to recommend some artists to YK, we can't just attach those to the artist book (or whatever it's gonna be called), even if we credit the artists.

If we do not publish our finished book (i.e. making it viewable publicly), it should be ok since we are technically sharing her some media (i.e. music and whatever other stuffs) privately, with proper credits to the authors. However, this means she also technically cannot repost the url to our book on twitter or something (but I can't remember her doing that for the previous years' presents) because the media needs permission from the authors and/or copyright holders. In this case, putting disclaimers or credits to the music won't be enough, since this is not really under Fair Use. (check "Fair Use Myths" section here, or here for more info)

Ofc, ppl on the Internet post stuffs without permission from the copyright holders all the time, and I doubt YK will be so anal abt copyrights permission, but it's safer to avoid potential trouble in legal terms for her and for us. That means we can either not publish the whole thing (i.e. share her maybe a google doc that can only be viewed from her email or something), or exclude songs/other media that do not have copyrights permission from the published book altogether (ofc we can give her a private link so she can still listen to them).

Btw, in case sb asks the fastest way to find proper credits to the copyright holders and/or authors, check this database. Or just upload yr music to YT (as unlisted or private vids to not get yrself banned) and see how YT credits the music in the vid description. It should look like this:

Note that author credits aren't nearly as detailed as what's found in CPM main site, but the credits for licenses are good.

The thread title now reads that a collection of personal favourites by year is the winning idea. Any details on the finalized project? OSTs included or not? Instrumentals or vocal tracks only (considering the semantics of "song" and all that)? Supposed to start all the way back with 1992/1993 or later?

The challenge of decisions aside, this is one endeavour that should be widely accessible and not take long, which is a reassuring counterweight to the fact that nothing much seems to have gone into motion now on July 12 (unless there's another topic I overlooked here or something mostly discussed in the chatland), but imagine the deadlines will still be tight on this.
 
Btw im excluding the live releases from the polls to save time from making them, and there is also the thing about many songs being old or them getting performed either over and over again or by different mix of vocalists / musicians each time , i ll make a extra poll for those once finished with the yearly ones.

Status: I ve finished up to 2014 with little help from Barbi-Houseki on 2001-2004, and considering how little the next years have all polls will be here by tomorrow to vote.

You can do the live releases poll if you want because i have a neck pain due to yesterday's many poll creations ^^;

the live releases poll (from 2008 YK vol 2 till Kala 10th anniv release, and dont forget to include the ones released in singles like in progressive, SH DVD, and Alleluia, maybe there are more and dont forget the live CDs too.
