Vocal Discussion of Yuki's Singers

Out of curiosity, what range would Maya have fallen into? She sounded like she would have been around Hikaru/Kaori's range? :confu:

I know we haven't heard much from her apart from sprinter...

but I do think Kalafina would've been maybe even more epic if she'd stayed...

Don't forget Kizuato and ARIA live.

Based on the kajiurago from Kizuato, I'd say she's pretty close to Wakana.
 
I think she's a mezzosoprano, but she can hit higher notes than HIKARU. I don't think she's a soprano because her lines in ARIA and Sprinter seem to be in the mid range, but it's deifnitely not something we can be sure of because of how little she sang during her tenure in the group

When I first heard sprinter I thought the part she was singing was Wakana until I found out later it was in fact Maya (is it just me or are their voices really similar in sprinter??)...

but yeah...I dunno, I went back to listen and I've decided that from what I heard in sprinter recording, she sounded like a lower version of Wakana (or like a combo of Hikaru and Wakana's voices) and from the differences between ARIA lives (that penultimate chorus that Maya sang in the 4-person ver. and Wakana sang in the 3-person ver.), I would say she has a mezzo-sop range more similar to Kaori than Hikaru's, but (from Kizuato live), can also sing falsetto quite well...:confu:
 
Maya is Mezzosoprano with rather wide range. At least from what we could hear (from sprinter, ARIA live and Kizuato live).

I could ask a family member when she gets back from the Gondwana Chorale summer school; she's done 3 years of classical voice at Elder Conservatorium and should be able to figure it out, given some songs which illustrate the range of the vocalists.

That might be a while yet, her schedule until 1 April includes being in a production of Puccini's Suor Angelica, in choir for Ennio Morricone's Adelaide concert, in choir for Leonard Bernstein's Mass, 3 performances of Bach's St John Passion and a solo recital.

However, I did pass on some Kalafina material to her (-:
 
Talking about the width of the vocal range...I've just thought about Eri Itoh's one... I think someone mentioned that she sings the lower chorus part of her solo by herself... We already know that she can touch very high note.., but it seems that her vocal range starts at very low note as well.... I haven't known about Yuri's or Hanae's low note..., but Eri may be another candidate who has extremely wide range as well as Yuriko and Fion... :ayashii: .
 
Just wondering, is soprano generally just harder to sing than alto, or is it relative to the singer? :confu:

E.g., is it easier for a soprano to attempt singing alto than it is for an alto to try singing a soprano part, or is it equally hard for both singers? :confu:
 
afaik alto should have easier time to sing soprano part if they have wide range of vocal or is trained to sing on higher notes as lower notes are natural gift that most soprano don't have.
I'm included as soprano in my uni's choir club but I spend more times as alto since alto lacks of people :TdT:
 
I think it depends on the person, but generally, there are certain things you can do to hit higher notes even if they are out of your general range (falsetto is an example of this) while hitting really low notes without sounding like you're growling and having good control over them is trickier if that's not how you're used to sing.
 
^ whoa...howz about if you don't go into falsetto but use the voice from your chest? :confu:

Question! So if alto is usually lower range, soprano higher range, and mezzo-soprano in the middle, what if the person is like, Eri Itoh who, as mentioned, has a VERY wide vocal range? Is that still mezzo-soprano or is there another name or no name for that range?

Yeah I think we've discussed it in Live vol 2 thread. She takes her breath quite loudly. Yuriko sometimes does the same.

I did notice that at the beginning of Mezame, but not much elsewhere. For some reason, I notice more the little 'outbursts' of breath that Kaori has almost every time she finishes singing a line. :confu:
 
As far as I know, regardless of how wide the range is, it depends on what is the higher note a person can hit. For example, Yuriko is a soprano, even though she can sing even lower than Keiko if she wants to. Itoh Eri would be classified as soprano as well :)

Yes I sometimes notice that too...I think Keiko seems to be the most silent breather :XD:
