Puella Magi Madoka Magica ☆ Magia Exedra Game Theme Song "Lighthouse" FictionJunction feat. LINO LEIA

Yea the transition was rather strange, i was expecting some instrument to kick in after the game-size ended, and instead LL was slapped back (there was lil bit of strings after Yuriko). I think the transition to Kaori isnt that weird, we have had it before, it was just in kajiurago instead. I think Emiko does harmony for Kaori in the bridge, and there is some flute after that ? sound like a double-bridge song (like Sweet song, since that was also for a game)

Iunno, I'm trying really hard to like it in this quality but... I just don't. The way KAORI sounds does not work with how LL sings IMHO (or with how light/optimistic I had perceived the song as from the short size). Also the way she attacks her first bridge note from below sux... Maybe it's how YK intended, I don't know... I know I don't like it ATM... But also shite quality so who knows...

Hope for the best but whatever excitement I had for this song went down the drain.

^ They didn't put the whole song in there. There is more. I think it takes time to get used to. It has happened to me many times in the past with other songs that i didn't like at first but ended up loving :)

Yes i think Kaori's singing is more dramatic, and its why i love her singing in CD ver of Hanamori no Oka and dream scape. Since she only seems to sing the bridge there it makes me think that Kajiura originally wanted to give the bridge to Keiko (as per usual in Kalafina / FJ songs) but happened what happened so she decided on Kaori instead.

Or she could've just stuck to LL considering it's "FictionJunction feat. LINO LEIA" and kept the others for backing vocals...

But sure, there's more. Hope for the best.

Interesting point. She usually includes that vocal variation to give contrast to the main lead vocal.
Somehow there was no variation of this kind in lead vocals in YAKOU TORYO, MOU KIMINOKOTO WO MITAKUNAI, HACHIGATSU NO ORGAN, SORE HA CHIISANA HIKARI NO YOUNA. All credited to "FictionJunction feat. ONESINGER" and as far as I remember nobody took over the leading lyric vocals from that onesinger (despite more singers being listed in credits, presumably as chorus). Now that naming scheme goes to the bin again, unless somehow the full version of "lighthouse" is released under "FictionJunction feat. LINO LEIA & KAORI" or "feat. ALL4SINGERS").

Yes, I am annoyed and disappointed. Let me be.

@chrisgarci I'm guessing finishing the story did not unlock the full song in the game's Music Gallery?

Thank you for the better quality audio of the end credits version. I'm kind of feeling better about the transition to the 2nd verse (it's still not great but doesn't bother me as much). LL's delivery in the 2nd verse&chorus might take a moment to get used to but I should be fine with it too (since at its core it's essentially the same as 1st).

I still don't like Kajiura had KAORI take over the bridge for seemingly no reason or KAORI's delivery in said bridge, but I am a little less pressed listening to it in this quality.

I would like to implore Kajiura to figure out her naming schemes but clearly she doesn't care much. It's like "Nohara" again except maybe worse because LL is in the artist field here, rather than just "Nohara"'s credits with KEIKO on Vocal and KAORI on Chorus (but still singing lead in the bridge). I didn't like it then, I don't like it here.

Yes but it was still "FictionJunction feat LiSA" Same as now with LL.
I think it was Kimetsu that made her popular more than who made the song.

It's the other way around back then... FJ needed to be promoted by LiSA
Hmmm. I have thoughts about that. Please tell me what you think.

Kajiura is well-known and respected by the industry of course, but not known as much by the average fans, which is exemplified by how Kalafina was known and beloved, with many not knowing Kajiura even existed.

She doesn't really trend but Kalafina seems to be able to trend at any time, especially with any rumor regarding their possible reunion, showing how much awareness there was about them.

It seems to me that her more recent FJ collaborations (the usual FictionJunction feat. xxx) with already established artists (at different levels) in the popular domain (LiSA, ASCA, JUNNA, to name a few) definitely can help to increase FJ's profile as a brand (and recognition/visibility for her).

In the past, it was mainly the FJ YUUKA collaboration that was able to achieve organic visibility for Yuuka (as an individual) through the popularity/success of the songs, and more people knew Yuuka through that collaboration.

Basically, all the old FictionJunction feat WAKANA, KEIKO, KAORI, were with then young upcoming singers. Now, "FJ feat." collabs are basically with established artists. We can argue FictionJunction feat LINO LEIA is with an artist who is not yet as established/successful, but it is a fact she definitely has an independent career.

In a weird way, I feel that the drama surrounding Kajiura's tweets about Kalafina's reunion, though controversial, brought more awareness of her as an individual to more of the general anime fanbase and definitely to Kalafina fans as a whole.

She had worked with many different artists even before Kalafina, namely Kaori Hikita (3 songs) Mika Arisaka (2 songs) Marina Inoue (2 songs) and also all these gundam character songs, and with Saeko for whom she did 2 whole albums. Its was after seeing Kalafina success and how her lives were going that she united the 4 FJ girls into 1 unit, but still kept Yuuka kinda separate.
I dont know how she is thinking it, because for me as a fan either she makes the song as FictionJunction + singer or under the singer's name (eg Kaori's Calling, Keiko's Yuuyami no uta and Nanairo no Finale, or LiSA's YK songs after "from the edge") the result is similar.

Holy moly, i found a Calling Live as per YT recommendation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flcI2Pq0uKY

Well, my thoughts about it is because "from the edge" is the first FictionJunction song she released after she left SpaceCraft during that time...

And re-establishing herself as an independent artist/composer

It does come out of the blue and I feel it does not fit the rest of the main vocal. eh, not my cup of tea anyway.
