Puella Magi Madoka Magica ☆ Magia Exedra Game Theme Song "Lighthouse" FictionJunction feat. LINO LEIA

She had worked with many different artists even before Kalafina, namely Kaori Hikita (3 songs) Mika Arisaka (2 songs) Marina Inoue (2 songs) and also all these gundam character songs, and with Saeko for whom she did 2 whole albums. Its was after seeing Kalafina success and how her lives were going that she united the 4 FJ girls into 1 unit, but still kept Yuuka kinda separate.
I dont know how she is thinking it, because for me as a fan either she makes the song as FictionJunction + singer or under the singer's name (eg Kaori's Calling, Keiko's Yuuyami no uta and Nanairo no Finale, or LiSA's YK songs after "from the edge") the result is similar.

Holy moly, i found a Calling Live as per YT recommendation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flcI2Pq0uKY
Interesting that you find it now. I find it out immediately when it was uploaded, but otherwise most here must now me as a diehard Kaori Fan

Transition from 2nd chorus to bridge is fine. I don't think Kaori's voice is jarring at all (would have preferred her to sing the song but oh well). Transition from pre-chorus to chorus is much worse, like the chorus sounds like it's from a completely different song and mashed together.

It's no Magia (or even Connect for that matter), it works fine as a throwaway OP for yet another gacha game that will reach EOS in a couple of years. Funny how Magia is still so iconic to this day and used in the game like right in the beginning, but Kajiura can't associate herself with it.

You're right. It sux.

What do you mean Kajiura can't associate herself with it? She still composed, arranged and wrote lyrics to it. v( '')v

And considering the game seems to follow/include Madoka anime story beats and that beginning scene has Magia in the anime... It's no surprise.

And what's so funny again?

Edit:
And isn't Kajiura doing choruses in Magia? o_0
@Saber y you gotta be like dat. :<

I thought it was her before the single came out, but only Yuriko is credited.
Isn't she credited in After Eden booklet for Magia? Let me take it out.

Edit: Yea, she is. v( '')v
Chorus:貝田由里子・梶浦由記

Edit2:
She's not credited in [quattro] on Hikari Furu single either.
Hmm, guess it's some copy-paste mistake in After Eden. She's on a lot of those choruses with Yuriko in this booklet.

Regardless, Magia is still part of that original anime scene that is adapted in the game, YK still wrote Magia, @Saber just wants to be on the offensive for some reason. :-(

Nah I'm not being offensive, I'm being cheeky. I'm implying the irony of Kajiura choosing not to affiliate herself with Kalafina now even though the song would have never come to fruition if not for Hikaru's voice (Kajiura herself admitting it herself when she wrote Magia), and rather than being amicable about it, she acts as if Kalafina has never existed to her.

In an alternate universe where it was Hikaru who left after YK vol#2 and not Maya, i think the song would turn out just as good with Maya.

Kalafina exists for Kajiura but since Hikaru and Keiko left she has no longer work relation with them so she doesnt talk about it, similar to how she didnt between the Kalafina disband and the time when they joined her again on YKL.

I understand what you're saying.

It was serendipitous that Kajiura wrote the song the way she did, and part of that was Hikaru being there with those vocal and personality qualities as well as Kajiura's state of mind. Kajiura would have written a different song if it was Maya that was there.

That's just how these things go with creative endeavors. Changing any element would draw out different inspiration leading to a slightly different end product.

Wut.
Half the oricon interview with Yuki Kajiura post SC was about Kalafina. (but somehow "she acts as if Kalafina has never existed to her"?)
She kept inviting Keiko and Hikaru to her lives and not perform Kalafina songs without them. (but somehow "she acts as if Kalafina has never existed to her"?) *
She made a butthurt post about not being informed officially about Kalafina's Anniversary Live. (but somehow "she acts as if Kalafina has never existed to her"?)
She made a radio program explaining said butthurt post and giving props to all 3 Kalafina members. (but somehow "she acts as if Kalafina has never existed to her"?)
Wut.

On a personal note: With things turning out the way they did, I hope she eventually does start performing those songs without them. Kajiura should not be punishing herself for her choices. As Kalafina members should not be punishing themselves for theirs.

I'm guessing finishing the story did not unlock the full song in the game's Music Gallery?
Yeah. This extended version of the song is only available during the credits, which can only be played post first arc gameplay. Gallery just contains the short version.

Magia being the iconic BGM as it was and still used during that boss fight even in this game gives me the wow factor. That being said, Kajiura is nowadays associated with this song more than before. Having this said track being played in her 30th Anniv live with the singers that included 2 of the 3 original vocalists became the moment the world knows Magia is hers.

Kajiura choosing not to affiliate herself with Kalafina
Uhm, actually Kalafina chose not to affiliate themselves with Kajiura this time! Whether it was for only one reunion concert isn't the point.

Why should she be the one twisting herself to maintain the relationship with Kalafina?

I hope she eventually does start performing those songs without them
So do I.

I am pleased that she did the HighwayStar covers thing with Haruna and co., and Hironobu and the others last year, and that the year before she also had rito do the "gloria cover" (which was well received by most)! I think doing Kalafina covers in YKL without any of the Kalafina ladies being there would be the next logical progression.

The songs belong to her, so she MUST feel free to keep performing them, irrespective of what anyone says.
Kajiura should not be punishing herself for her choices. As Kalafina members should not be punishing themselves for theirs.
Exactly!

I am glad they had a successful concert and I believe Kajiura wishes them well.

The fact that she had one person in mind doesnt mean that someone else cant sing it just as well or even better, just like it happpened with how Sayuri and Saeko sung Sore wa Chiisana and Sayonara Solitia vs how Keiko performed those songs.

Pronounciation aside i always prefer the FJ ver of Emily Bindiger songs over the original, same for sweet song or maybe tomorrow.

Figured as much. So we wait... -_-

Thank you. "Magia" continuing to be a part of that sequence in the franchise isn't in any way surprising. I don't know why @Saber felt the need to be "cheeky" and poke at Kajiura by pointing out "Magia" appeared there. Chances are any other BGM/song would've been reused here if the original anime scene had used a different BGM/song with similar success. But "Magia" it was and is.

Late Edit:
Reading chrisgarci's sentence again, I guess I might've misinterpreted it in the morning. Taking another "L" for grunty.
I'll leave my post up unaltered as I'm still trying to understand why Saber felt the need to bring "Magia" up the way they did.

Oh, of course not. I am sure there are singers that can do Magia justice (some of them are in FJ), my point (in response to your comment about Maya and Hikaru) is at the composition level, when Kajiura was composing the song and had Hikaru in mind, as you said.

I am with you on that, but of course Emily also created the original vocal performance all by herself.

Respect to the original, openness to covers and new arrangement, by the original or new singers. That's always my stance.

I still love Hikaru's vibe and performance overall for Magia (since it's within her currently usable range) and will want her to keep doing it as long as she's able/willing. I am also able and willing to hear other vocalists' take on the song (I mean I would like to hear a metal cover from maybe Unlucky Morpheus or something).

I finally got around to listen to the longer version of lighthouse and I fear I'm not sold...
My favourite parts are still intro and verses. In the other parts, there is a lot of Kajiura-autopilot present. Specifically the chord progression just before the transition into the 2nd verse is right out of the "Kajiura harmonies 101" book and doesn't fit at all to the key change that comes right afterwards. as some of you already pointed out, you would think that she would use a transitional chord progression that would lead naturally back to the verse's key, but nope.

Well, at least the transition is not as bad as in shirogane. That one is still by far the worst key transition (chorus to 2nd verse) Kajiura has ever written. Or not written, because there is none.

So when is this song getting released? Please don't tell me this is going to be another from the edge situation where we have to wait for half a year...

I imagine sometime between now and Walpurgis Rising Theme Song(s) single (as a b-side)
So in other words in well over half a year, given that walpurgisnacht rising is announced for winter 2025...

definitely still before "fairy game" by FictionJunction feat. shuri. :)
Oh yes, I forgot about that one. Definitely makes half a year sound short in comparison...
