Off topic: In fact, this is just my own curiousity. Many one claim that the illegal download spread in these days is much more than the old days, and it affected the sale. But for me, I don't feel the difference of the illegal access for music between now and 5-6 years ago. (In those days, we'd already had youtube, bittorrent, mf, mu, 4share, and so many many sources that we can find the song download illegally.) So I guess that there may be a big phenomenon in Japan (or at least, in its online-community) allowing people access illegal download easier and wider, and it really affected the sale... anyone knows about that..? :confu:

i have to agree since downloads have been available long enough. oh and leakage of albums before it's release date is not rare these days (they do that on movies too,in our country i remember someone sent me a download link of FICTION II b4 it's release date

@Kagaribi: Japan have legal download sites. They used to have napster (legal one, different from the original iirc) and now they have iTunes, rouchoku or something like that, mu-mo etc.

but yeah, pretty much everywhere in the world, more people prefer illegal, free download than the legal, paid download.

Because digital distribution will always remain a synonim for free stuff. IMHO when a person is ready to buy the official release he or she liked, they'll be more willing to open wallets for a good quality CD with real booklets, cases and such than for 150 Mb of compressed music vulnerable to HDD failures, virus attacks and whatnot. And guys like iTunes even seem to firmly believe you're not supposed to back it up sometimes.

RIAJ have been obliged to move with the times. The way download sales certifications are issued appears to have changed. The old distinction between 'Chaku Uta' and 'PC' downloads has gone. The advent of Android and iPhone devices has demolished that distinction.

We now seem to have a single category for all paid downloads. And with it, a long list of revised certifications including a Gold certification (100,000 downloads) for Magia.

100,000? Nice. And here I thought they would never reach more than 100,000 for any single like See-Saw and Yuuka did before.
