Kalafina in Budokan 28 February - 01 March 2015

For a start, Kalafina had 3 costume changes for each day. I quite liked the one they changed to in the middle on both days.

The color of their dresses when they first appeared are as follow: Hikaru in green/turqoise, Keiko in Red(a tinge of pink) and Wakana in yellow.

I liked what they changed into next. In particular I like how Hikaru and Keiko looked. Wakana wasn't really rocking the image during Red day's first costume change.

For Blue, I think they removed a part of their 2nd costume but I can't be sure where did it go. I remember they had sort of a vest-thingy one moment and it disappeared the next. I might've been dreaming though.

The dresses they appeared in at the end for both days are in gold, albeit different from the ones we see from pictures of Kalafina Live 2014.

I think we should monitor news articles etc over the coming days and see if pictures of the concerts are published.

Red:
Overall a good performance IMO, but Hikaru seemed a little off. Hatouchan mentioned that yesterday - on a number of occasions Hikaru's voice seemed to tail off even before her voice reaches her peak.

Keiko and Wakana were awesome, although I'm not sure if the occasional bleed (overpowering) into each other's lines/sequence was a technical fault. Keiko's voice seemed to be louder than Wakana's and Hikaru's at times, although Hikaru's another issue altogether.

There were alot more choreography this time, I especially liked the one in fairytale. The change in poses and positions when the lights went off and on repeatedly is so fun to watch.

I quite liked how the North sides of Budokan which were not used formed the backdrop. I think it was at the end where we saw stars at the background. For a moment I was expecting them to start singing manten but...

Nary a clue of what went on during the MCs with my dysfunctional understanding of the language, but two out for me. One was of Hikaru promoting the pamphlet -she highlighted that there were a lot of photos, Wakana in a certain pose, Keiko in a certain pose, and the interview segment. Apparently the usual norm for interviews in their pamphlet is a page, but this time there are two pages!

The other one was of Keiko calling out to the girls. I can't stop laughing for some time when she did it.

Blue
Rainy and cold day but it did not dampen the mood one bit. On the whole, there were alot more lighting effects for Blue. As mentioned earlier, everything worked perfectly today: the songs, transitions between the songs, Hikaru. LOL.

She sounded way better today, and overall I think there wasn't any instances of ones voice overpowering the other. I didn't like how Mirai sounded today though, Hikaru was missing abit of her sparkle and authority here.

I think Hikaru had her line stolen in Natsu no ringo by Wakana. Either that or it was a new arrangement. Basically Wakana sung a line of Hikaru's but everything was business as usual.

The addition of the accordion was excellent, as was the FBM rendition of numquam vincar. I am really, really, really, really struggling to find words to describe this version of numquam vincar omg. Drums, light strobes, instrument solos. Just wow.

If anything, I liked the sequence of the songs following Hanabata.

The order of Kimi no Gin no Niwa -> Manten -> To The Beginning -> (FBM) Numquam Vincar -> Magia -> Destination Unknown -> signal -> Ongaku -> Heavenly Blue and Snowfalling was perfect. However, there wasn't a starry backdrop to accompany Manten when it came on.

I had a brief listen to the 'Ring your bell's studio mix and it did seemed promising (I think it's better than when they performed during Red) but I think 'far on the water' is the better one.

Hikaru was promoting their products today - her coin pouch, Keiko's hairband and Wakana's socks. I think Hatouchan can give a better elaboration on what Hikaru had to say about Keiko's hairband. Not sure if I heard wrong, but Wakana has been waiting for some time to design her product and she's happy to be able to do it today.

Like how some movies they hide stuff right at the end of the credits, Kalafina did it today too.

Besides announcing the Historia single, they announced a nationwide live tour starting in October. I might've mistaken what I thought I saw though, but if it's a nationwide tour the official schedules should be out soon.

I think I have pretty much said my piece, I'll leave the missing content in the more capable hands of @Hatouchan.

Report! Am sober now. I think. It was 2am when I started. It's almost 5am now. Lol.

I felt like blue day was a lot more impressive than red day. There were a few factors contributing to that. For starters, blue day had an all new intro song. In fact, it had several.

For red day, when the girls first made their appearance, they rose together in the centre of the stage, at the top of the stairs. For blue day, they decided to do it a little differently. They rose one at a time, took a bow for the audience, and bowed for the next person to appear. I think it started with Wakana, then Hikaru and finally Keiko (it was hard to see). I can't remember anymore but I think it was the same first dress as red day. Wakana was in yellow, Hikaru in a light blue? Keiko in a light red?? I can't recall very well. The top of their dresses was covered with something that made them glitter a lot.

Aside from that, they used the star effect as they had yesterday but at the opening this time, once again making the audience feel like they're looking at a sea of stars. It's very, very pretty. The budokan is a hall that has seats that go very very high up. Aside from the arena, all seats are increasingly elevated per row. So the last row is ridiculously high up. Since the entire half of the hall behind the stage isn't used, they put tiny lights around the entire area. Imagine it being not only going wide but going very very high up too. I saw it from the second floor yesterday and saw it from the 1st floor today. It was beautiful regardless of the angle but it felt more like a starry sky today as opposed to seeing the galaxy from yesterday.

Stage wise, it's the same for both days except for the coloured lights, which coloured the huge curtains draped around the stage. Obviously it's mostly red for red day and mostly blue for blue day. They did play with the colour a lot. I laughed when they made Mirai yellow. Even Kalafina acknowledges Credens Justitiam as Mami's theme song. Haha.

As I've said before, Hikaru's condition today was better than yesterday, but still not quite what it should be. It was really worrying for the first few songs. In Natsu no Ringo, I think Wakana took over some of Hikaru's lines? In the album version it was wakana's line, but has always been Hikaru's during the live version because it overlaps with Wakana's previous line (the "kiss wo suru" and "fue no ne ga" part) This time, Hikaru took over a few words from Wakana's last lime so that wakana could start the next line, which I think would have been out of Hikaru's reach in her current condition. She seemed to have a lot of difficulty with the higher notes yesterday so perhaps they changed it up for Wakana to take over. Hikaru wasn't suddenly cutting off her high notes like she was doing yesterday so it was a lot more listenable, but you can feel her having difficulty with them. I won't say that she was always on key for those but she was close.

Wakana was in really great condition today. I started mostly as a Wakana fan girl so this made me really happy (Keiko has been stealing my heart, I confess). She was already amazing in I have a dream so it didn't take her long to warm up today. Thankfully too since seventh heaven came after that. By the time they got to signal/Ongaku and whatnot, she was already in goddess mode. She's just doing the "Ahhh"s and stuff for those but wow. Just wow. I would gladly remove any concert ear plugs to listen to her voice in its full glory. Tinnitus be damned.

After the second mc, they invited the accordion on stage and began Hanataba. This is also where we first (?) got Wakana in goddess mode. She hit her high notes with such ease. Beautiful. (random: ahhhh I can't believe I forgot to list Hanataba for the feedback form) I also recall being surprised by how well Hikaru did here. It wasn't perfect but she did well for the most part. Probably one of her best songs that night.

I think I should mention that Keiko was good as always. I didn't mention her yet, thus far, because it was pretty much business as usual on her end.

In gin no niwa, poor Hikaru got overpowered for "tojikometeita". I'm quite sure she wasn't trying to make it soft.

For manten, they had less choreography this time. Actually, for today, they generally had way less choreographed dance than yesterday.

After TTB, the girls head to change. Sakurada first started with a very long and quiet piano solo. Then we slowly heard the intro to Numquam Vincar. I realised immediately and got pretty excited but never did I imagine the song to be this intense. Once again, the 8 strings made me wish for Kajiura to invite them to her lives. The first solo was not a guitar solo. It was a violin solo. Konno hitoshi played his violin like he did in kimi ga ita monogatari (yk11). Aside from that, the drums hit very very hard. This alone is enough to make anyone's jaw drop but they had to outdo themselves and increased the performance's intensity with an amazing use of lights, flashing them about quickly and wildly everytime Satou Kyouichi hit the drums hard on an otherwise pretty dark stage. I have to say, the lights you see on BD/DVD and the lights you see in person at the venue is very different. Obviously the angle is different so it's very hard for the cameras to show you how the lights look from the audience's pov. The many rays from each light source and how it shines across the entire hall and stage. While there were a few moments yesterday and today that I found the light annoying, most of the time I thought that they made amazing use of the lights. In the videos it just looks like a non stop disco mess but in the hall you can tell that each light placement was very carefully picked.

When the instrumental ended, it was time for the girls to come back. I waited with my eyes on the stage, when suddenly I heard the fans scream in excitement. They appeared in the arena area, from the side where the audience was seated! Lucky arena folks! They were in a totally new set of dresses. All of them were in a dark shade of blue. It was a dress with a top jacket. Wakana looked like a victoriana magician of sorts. Lol. Keiko went military. I can't remember Hikaru, sorry. But that's not important. The important thing is KEIKO WAS IN A PONYTAIL. KEIKO. PONYTAIL. *faints* we normally only get that when keiko does t-shirt encores! I think it's a first in the proper concert attire. She looked very Western Bushi if you know what I mean. Lol. Western because of the military look, warrior because of the ponytail. So very handsome. The ponytail didn't last long though. They eventually discarded their top and keiko took off her ponytail as she did that. Wakana wasn't able to discard hers for a while because she was busy singing the kajiurago. And when she finally did (cue cheers from he crowd), she was already sweating like mad. In magia, they had a new dance, centered around the extra stage area in the middle (think animax). There were some extreme movements. Spinning and stuff. Lol.

This is of course where they started the hot songs.

Destination unknown. Hikaru sounded weird to me at times, like there was some effect/distortion on her voice. This happened to keiko during Ongaku too. I am not sure if it was my imagination. @bevan? I think this was where they started singing, huddled closely together? XD it started with Keiko and Hikaru back to back. Wakana had her back facing keiko and keiko had a hand on her shoulder. Then they moved and took a different post together, often with someone's hand on someone's shoulder. Lol.

Signal was where wakana stole the show. Oh my god. Omgomgomgomgomg. The solos by the FBM was also very fun. But Omg wakana.

Keeping the heat up, they went on to Ongaku immediately. Everyone stood up as usual. If anything, this was the one song almost everyone would stand up for. The hall is actually very cold in winter. I could sit there in full winter gear and not sweat at all as I sat there listening. By this time however, whoo. This string of songs left me so high and hot I had to take my coat off. The girl beside me did the same. SO FUN AS USUAL. We did Ongaku yesterday too but it never gets old! Rather, it would feel weird to end without Ongaku. It was my first thought during the fjc live when we entered encore calls without Ongaku. Wakana was a goddess here as well. You can doubt all you want that wakana can sing like that. That's your loss. I've experienced it today and it was without a doubt perfection. Not live magic or whatever because Hikaru obviously sounded less than perfect. Hikaru also did great for Ongaku though!! As Ongaku inched towards the end and the crowd started clapping, keiko shouted "Not yet! We're gonna go on!!" and Ongaku transitioned immediately with Satou doing a count with his sticks into heavenly blue. Why the count? So the girls could harmonise the Kajiurago at the start immediately of course! SO BEAUTIFUL. Wonderful use of lights here too. The girls were totally ready with their pose. It drove the crowd into a frenzy. This flow, and the entire string of songs from magia onwards was pure perfection. If you've never experienced a concert high, or you're very resistant to this kind of thing, this would definitely do it.

Why in the world did they sing Snow Falling after HB? Sounds like a total mood killer.

I assure you that it wasn't. There was an MC between the two. It was totally time for a rest. If we continued I think I probably would have fainted from a heat stroke. In winter no less. Lol.

During the mc, Keiko said she the next song was for everyone to listen to their voices. And it was!

Snow falling was one of my favourites this time. Not just the song, but the entire performance as a whole. The hall was dark. Spot lights shone down on the girls. On the huge screen behind them, was what seemed to be lights or snow falling. It was beautiful. This song was really quiet. It was purely the 8 strings and the piano accompanying the girls. You could hear every string clearly. You'd almost forget you were in a shitty sports hall with shitty sound systems. Even Hikaru did pretty well here! For kalafina songs, sometimes the music is very loud and it gets very hard to really listen to the girl's voices. Even seventh heaven gets really loud when the music swells. Snow falling though, it really lets you listen to their voices.

They ended with symphonia, introduced the fbm, and walked off. It's time for encore. Already? I've not had nearly enough.

We clapped for encore. It took a while to get everyone synchronised and for the most part it was all over the place.

Music comes back on. It's a new intro (?) with some very scary sounding kajiurago. Then a familiar tune plays. It's red moon! I can't believe I forgot about red moon! I didn't expect them to put it in encore. What else can I say aside from it being a very powerful song. I think I stopped breathing and held my jaw open like an idiot.

Believe next. I actually like this song quite a bit now. Lol. Even the repeated intro part didn't feel jarring.

Mc time. It's Hikaru's corner! Hikaru says this time, they have blue goods made especially for blue day, but today, she's not gonna promote any of those. Lol. She chooses to talk about the member produced goods. Hikaru first asks wakana about her socks. Wakana says she kinda likes sharks (haha yeah right. Kinda). Well ok she likes sharks quite a lot. she likes socks a lot too. So she decided to combine the two and made shark socks!

Keiko made a hair band. Hikaru says it's something girls must have a look at. She asks keiko if she has anything to say about it. She uhmhm and shakes her head. I think she's trying to avoid the inevitable girl appeal she'll do if she speaks to the girls, after failing to control herself yesterday. Lol. Hikaru then speaks on her behalf. In Keiko's written message about her hair band, keiko first says sorry to the men. This time she decided to do a present for the ladies. It's designed with usability in mind, and she asks the girls to certainly please use it and become cute♡. Hikaru says that they decided on the colour together, one they think would suit most people. H: "There's a "k" on it. So wear it and if someone asks, "eh? You don't have a 'k' anywhere in your name so why do you have that there?", that's your chance! Chance! That's where you ask "do you know this group called kalafina??". Please spread the kalafever." lol. Hikaru then talks about her coin case. It's a very practical design. Complete with a slot on the other side for a card. (Btw, last I saw, like the first day, only the coin case and hair band were sold out. Poor wakana. I thought the socks were really cute)

They then announce the ring your bell single. "well then... Today... We're... Not going to sing it" EHHHHHH??!! she has another announcement! A new ending theme for historia! Far on the water.

I can't remember much except that keiko gets to open the song. Sorry. It generally takes a while for songs to enter my head. I think only magia and gin no niwa made an immediate impact thus far. I don't think it sounded like symphonia though it is quite a bright song and is faster than Yume no daichi? Quite a bit of Kajiurago. I also remember the song changing quite drastically? Nothing more. Sorry.

Then they started the lethal mc as outlined by yumi-san and ended it with sprinter for a two punch knock out.

Oh my god I have to check out in a little over 5 hours and I have not slept a wink and have not packed. I am not gonna bother with the rest of the typos. So tired. Had fun reliving the concert while typing though. Whee.

Edit:
Ok maybe I'll just add the post sprinter stuff too..
After they did a bow with the fbm, it was time for the girls to do their budokan stroll. They first bowed in the centre area, before walking towards the east wing. Keiko ran with all her might up, before stopping suddenly, her hands on the railings and turning to see where wakana and Hikaru were. There's was a sort of "oops I did it again" (not the pop song) feel to it. They greet them and head over to the west side. Wakana was in the front so as they neared the West side, keiko got impatient and put her hands around wakana's hips and pushed her along in a nice way. They both do an exaggerated crash grab on the railings. As they left the stage, wakana blew a kiss to the audience. Hikaru though, lol, raised her hand in a rocker kind of way, complete with an eyes shut single head bang. YEAHHHHHH! The crowd cheered. So then something plays on the screen. Ohhhh?? It's just the release dates for ring your bell, presented in a dramatic way. But that's not all! Boom! 2015 fall. Ohhhh???!! KALAFINA 2 days at Tokyo international forum (Hall A I think) on the 10th and 11th October, marking the start of their 2015 national tour! Kalafina will sprint on in 2015 too! What a message to end on. I cried again at that. No other details on the tour aside from that. Am I going? After that mc. After filling me with overflowing feelings of love for kalafina? WHY YES. Do you even have to ask?

Edit2: seems like something I cut from this got accidentally pasted for a bit. Hope no one saw that.

Edit 3: updated impressions on ring your bell. It still doesn't sound like an ending song. It's still very bright. But it's very pretty! I do think the similarity to mirai, etc ends with the similar beat.

I was going to ask that. Did they sang it in the original tempo, or like the usual live version?

Lucky you who could attend, can you confirm that the information regarding the next Tour on October and November please? Because that mean that I may come if so (there must be at least one date between 10/17 and 02/11 :plz:)
Thanks ~~
We don't know yet. Where will you be though. Because it's a national tour and Tokyo is on the 10th/11th. I would guess that they would end with Tokyo eventually but no one knows how long this tour is.

I'm thinking the same. But there are exceptions: for instance the After Eden Tour began with the Special Live, and the national tour began only afterwards. So if there are some lives within my Autumn Break I'll consider going in Japan on purpose.

wow..i have missed so much while i was away hahaha. i'm so glad kalafina is releasing 2 new songs soon! i just listened to ring your bell...don't know what to think of it, but it'll probably grow on me :p

thanks @Hatouchan for your review! i had tix to go to the lives, but ended up giving them to some of my friends in tokyo since i couldn't afford to go to japan and i have been so busy with graduating & the jlpt these past 4 months... >.< perhaps i might go to their fall tour since i'm planning to perhaps go to japan during that time.

seeing all these reviews make me so excited! haha

^ "far on the water" isnt announced for release yet, they just said they will use it for RHH. it will probably be in the next album which I can bet that will come out in Summer (maybe August since June and half July will be busy with YK vol 12) ? Since the tour is on Fall, and ring your bell doesnt come out before May 13.

Maybe a national tour is associated to new album? It would be logic... But album wasn't announced...

^ yes, there's no way they will do national tour to promote a single, so as I wrote album comes around August. This way, Yk vol 12 will have ended, and they will have a month to prepare for the Tour assuming the dont do TV appearances, in-store events and stuff.

Their biggest chance to announce album for spring is just gone, and there's no way they announce first a single that comes out in May and then an album that comes out before that :XD:

National :comeback:. Wasn't getting my hopes up, but you know, adding an inter to that would've made my day.

Those dresses though. Those dresses. Both the green/yellow/red set and the black/red outfits I've been seeing look amazing. Really did look like they went all out with that. Best thing is that a lot of images I've seen have the girls looking really happy, even more so than usual. They seemed to enjoy their time a lot.

Good to hear that Hikaru was better on the second day, too, and good to hear such positive comments about Wakana considering the usual opinions of her, maybe she is indeed getting back on form. Both would please me greatly as they have so much talent when they're at their best .

With all the lighting, the discussion, the sheer mention of overseas fans, the costumes and extra choreography and the sheer fact that it's Budokan, it would seem a huge waste and a massive surprise if they don't release it as a DVD/BD, honestly. And I will buy it. Here's hoping they do a super special edition somewhat like the 5th Anni Live box, that would be something I'd be willing to pay a lot for, even if I don't totally agree with the setlists. The actual order of tracks and the few tracks they've performed not on the Best albums seem positive, though, plus having a new song for each day was a pretty cool idea.

I just wish I could've been there. A first Budokan live is something that can only happen once, after all :touched:.

Those photos from FB and VK are obsolutely illegal, they are candid snapshot. If you guys have the authority, please delete them.
I even heard from twitter that someone took photos during the whole live and didn't stop to clap hands to our uta-himes after their performances, this is too much! I don't think spreading the illegal photos and audios can show how deep you love them. It was impolite.
