^ Hikaru has been trained in vocal since she was kid (Anyone reading Kalafina Record please confirm).
Wahahaha..! I wish I have the record and I wish I can read and understand it... Thanks for clarifying... :XD: (Guess I remembered it wrong)

Yukki88 wrote : I don't understand either, honestly. Hikaru's voice gives a variation to otherwise similar-sounding voices of Wakana and Keiko.
I totally agree with you!! I really like Hicchan's voice and in After Eden's songs , I find that she has reached the shade is best for her! She's fantastic in Neverending or in Destination Unknown!! :dote:

@rian: I read at least one comment in someone's After Eden review on Tumblr (the person basically said "Every time I hear Hikaru's voice it ruins the song for me"), and I'm pretty sure but not positive that I read something in LastFM too. It seems like the more casual fans comment in such a manner, but I try not to pay attention because the way they talk annoys me sometimes. :uh..:

@KP-X: I understand your point about her being featured in the songs, but I think that calling it 'dominating' might be the wrong verb. I've gotten the impression that Kajiura-sensei is working to feature all three girls equally, which means that - as opposed to giving one of them an entire song like Wakana in Oblivious or Hikaru in Aria - she tries to give them at least one solo part in each song they sing. So I think this is the reason for Hikaru's suddenly showing up in songs like Kagayaku - given the fact that she and Wakana have much the same range, Kajiura-sensei is probably trying to make sure that neither of them actually dominate the songs that need such a range.
As for Keiko, I think that she does have a bit more in After Eden than in the previous two albums, but I haven't yet taken the time to count all her parts so I can't really say. But I'm thinking that the reason she gets less is because her range is lower, and it's rare that Kajiura-sensei writes a Kala song for lower ranges now...

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I love hearing opinions about the girls~

I'd like the idea of Kajiura feauting the girls more in the songs, but only if it is necessary. Like I said, Hikaru's voice didn't add much to the song (in fact, some people disliked the song because of her participation in it), so why feature her just for the sake of having her in the song? I find this just useless. It's different than featuring her in the beginning of neverending to then move on to Wakana.
Just like I said, the "dominating" thing is more of the way people perceive it rather than the reality, in a sense. Although I also have the feeling that Kajiura is betting more on Hikaru, even if just a bit. I just wish she would someday move on finally to Keiko lol

^ Good point. I think it's a problem because no matter how the song's arranged, it can't satisfy everyone - there'll be people like you who think that Hikaru doesn't fit, and there'll be other people who don't like that Wakana sang the whole song. At any rate, I'm usually all right with what's done in the arrangements.

I do agree about Keiko, though...Tetote isn't enough :TdT:

^ i also agree! keiko's voice is so soothing~
like on neverending, when she gets her own lines after the first chorus, for some reason i find it sooo soothing :nosebleed:

[smallcaps]hopefully we get keiko as a lead in another song in the future[/smallcaps] :sohappy:

Hikaru does seem to be the least liked member of the group, which is a shame, since I think she's just precious. :TdT: But other than Keiko being my favourite for having such a deep voice, which plays to my inherant bias, I generally like them all equally.

Wakana has a lovely voice that I like listening to, and I think she's a beautiful woman with a charming personality. Hikaru has a lovely voice that I like listening to, and I think she's also a beautiful woman with a charming personality. It's the same with Keiko. Only I like her more. Because she has a deep voice.

A lot of people say they don't like how Hikaru goes mental in some songs when she's singing live, though, but I kinda love that enthusiasm, since I think it's cute she gets so into it. I've never really noticed the "yelling" that she apparently does either, but I'm sort of musically retarded and never notice things like that unless they're doing the auditory equivalent of bashing me in the face with a cuecard saying "huge volume increase".

I guess it comes down to personal taste, really. I dunno. Unless you're going around saying "omg hikaru has a voice like sharp nails being hammered into my throat and that is what i wish would happen so i don't have to listen to this song anymore omg", because that's just people being stupid and nothing to do with personal taste.

Well, I'm obviously biased because she's my favorite member, but I like her enthusiasm as well xD And like I said, that rawness in her vocals sets her apart from the other too and gives the songs a different feel IMO.

I can understand how people who are music pros might be annoyed at this "quality" of hers though, but we'll have to wait until we watch the new Concert DVD they will release to find out if she does justice to the songs live or not.

My point is that it's ok if you aren't particularly fond of Hikaru, or if you like the other girls better or her voice and technique are not your taste, but the sad part is when some people blame her for things that clearly aren't her fault, like the line distribution of the group.

^It's not a matter of blaming her. People that, from the very beginning, are not that fond of her voice most probably got tired of her when she began to "dominate" the songs.

^ I have more of a problem with the phrasing of that comment more than anything else. Hikaru's vocals being 'sharp and annoying' is a purely subjective thing, and I think it's unfair to call them that as though everyone should think so.

I may be wrong but I don't think she said like everyone has to think so. It's implicit that that's her opinion, as she's the one saying this. Just like it's not in all of our posts that we explicit say "in my opinion". If someone disagreed with her about Hikaru's voice and she replied as if what she said was the only truth, then that's another thing.
And unfortunately I don't disagree thaaaaat much with her opinion about the album but that's another story lol

^ I suppose it's all in your interpretation. I tend to be extremely careful about how I write my posts, so I always quality everything with "to me" or "in my opinion"...but there are probably other people who mean it without actually saying so.

I still tend to overreact to those sorts of things anyway. :...:

^ Well, I don't have a huge problem at all...I only looked through the tagged posts the other day and I've only mentioned this once. :uh..:

In case this person reads this, as I said above, it's a matter of interpretation. I interpreted their statement wrong, and I apologize.

EDIT

...also, I do have negative things to say about Kajiura-sensei at times. It might not be obvious because I don't want to give the impression that I dislike her music, but... :imdead:

I have no personal dislike on Hikaru either, i even appreciate her, but there are times when I find her voice annoying to my ears.Well I just say to myself that Yuki wouldn't take her in if she didn't find any potentials in her as a vocalist.Hikaru has improved, it's very clear.Though i also respect why others hate her.

You can kill me, but I don't like Hikaru at all, yeah. I have no problem with her voice or her performance, she is awesome just like all of the other singers, it's just my 'taste'. She annoys me sometimes, but it's not her fault, it's more about me. Actually, I'm starting to like her more, but I don't mind her at all, but she is doing a great job with Kalafina (although I prefer FJ a LOT more). She is cute, this is true, but... still not one of my favorite singers.

It's just my opinion, my personal taste, don't get mad.
