Explain why do you love "This Kalafina Song/Performance" ?

Wow, I think it's really hard to single out songs that I like. It's probably easier to state which songs I don't like, or rather, songs that I occasionally skip. But okay, let's try.

Red Moon
First song of theirs that I really, really liked and the song that convinced me to listen to more songs. Prior to this, I stuck with just FJ because I couldn't relate to Kalafina. Anyway I found this song really unique and how the melody evolves as it moves from verse to chorus kind of threw me off at first, but I liked the overall atmosphere. It was dark, gothic, powerful, and kinda sad too. But what really caught me was Keiko at the end...there are no words for the goosebumps I felt when I heard that the first time. Absolute eargasm.

Magnolia
Because it's an evil song, and all of them sound deliciously evil. :ohoho: I can't explain it too well, but I just really like the overall aura of the song. And Keiko harmonizing with herself is nosebleed worthy~ :nosebleed: I also particularly loved how Keiko harmonized the 'tentai no rondo' line with Wakana during the live performance.

adore
The Kajiuran parts here are just absolutely beautiful. :dote: Anyway, I came across adore around the time when I've started liking Kalafina a little although I wasn't thoroughly convinced yet. Then I heard this and my fate was sealed.

lirica
Same as adore really. These two together with Sapphire and Gloria I consider their not so secret stash of b-sides.

Serenato/Sandpiper
Putting them together because they evoke similar feelings. There's a lot of sadness and longing in these two songs, and Wakana really brings out that feeling. I find serenato more forlorn, while sandpiper sounds grand, almost epic even with how the melody builds.

Hikari no Senritsu
To be honest I hated this song at first. It sounded way too happy. And it was neverending. I hated that the most. I heard it once and then decided never to listen to it again until one random day I decided for some reason to do just that. And I found it wasn't so bad after all. The melody that I disliked so much even got stuck in my head. So...I don't know, I just suddenly didn't hate it anymore. Over more listening, the melody has somewhat become really calming and relaxing and I even never want it to end. It almost feels like I could follow the melody to some happy place :sohappy:

Love come down
I've made some non-Kalafina associations with this song, and so every time I hear this I'm reminded of those things :XD: Hikaru is always ruining the final 'dandan' in lives though :ohoho:

Red Moon (my absolute favorite)
I love Keiko's solo, its very nice that she really got to show off her voice. Because it's so nice and deep but she doesn't get to flaunt it much. It give she the chills every time I listen. Also the harmony of Wakana and Hikaru's voices make a beautiful background, their notes just send me flying into the clouds. And it's even better like because you can hear all parts clearly.
Utsukushisa,
I love in the middle when the music really takes off, the uh, (okay I apparently don't know my sting instruments very well) I don't actually know what it is it I'm guessing it's either a violin although my first guess was cello, (but like I said I don't know instruments very well) usage is just amazing. It has a very calming and other worldly feel to it. Now that I've made a complete fool of myself. :XD:
Oblivious,
I just like how the three parts fit together.

manten:

- LOVE THOSE AMAZING LYRICS :TdT: and when I think of Iri's fate in the anime...with this song...not to mention all the other awesome characters that eventually die :TdT: :TdT:

- Hikaru sounds freaking amazing

- Keiko's harmony line when Hikaru was singing her 'yasuragi no aru to hito no iu saihate made..." (especially on the 'saihate made') went so low, even my teeth were shivering :shy:

- Love the way Wakana sings the line that goes "tsubasa wo hoshigatte dare mo ga naiteita..." especially the "tsubasa wo hoshigatte.." part. I just think she sounded so emotional and passionate there, both utterly despairing yet fiercely defiant at the same time. :TdT: :touched: It's probably my favourite line in the whole song.

- in fact, my favourite verse is just that whole:
"tsubasa wo hoshigatte dare mo ga naiteita
inochi ga kanaderu
manten no chorus"
(to be honest, though, I would have liked the last line better if Hikaru hadn't overwhelmed Wakana on the word 'chorus', but still, I LOVE )

- Also loved Hikaru's "kirei na yume dake ga anata wo kirisaita tsumetai hitomi no yasashisa to shinjitsu..." The strings in the background are lovely, this part sound so bittersweet for me :TdT:

- Okay, so in the end I just love everything about this song, I love every verse/chorus and all the girls (apart from the aforementioned parts where Hikaru threatened to drown out Wakana, but even so, it's not that big a deal for me in the end, it wasn’t enough to detract from the overall awesomeness of the song)

- This song is really emotionally complex to me for some reason, it seems to be full of contradictory feelings - it seems to be hopeless and tragic yet at the same time fierce and defiant. Kind of reminds me of in movies where the character knows they're going to die in the end but they make sure they go out with a bang and have a really epic death. :touched:

Red Moon

It has a dark and intense feeling of power and melancholy to it. The melancholy is well-expressed by Wakana. And how I loved the Kajiurago part, the way it was whispered and chanted makes the song so mysterious. Last but not least, I love Keiko's battle cry near the end of the song!

+1!! :shy:

Moonfesta,

the intro sounds like arabic song, the rest is happy song, and the blending voice of hikaru and wakana :sohappy:

Ashita no Keshiki

I saw it while stalking youtube and instantly fell in love with it. The buildup to the chorus was very good, and when the marching drums finally came and Wakana finally belted out "Yoake ni obieteru, tayorinai mirai wo" it was...it wasn't just melancholic, it was like, there's the sadness, there's the knowledge that the sad end was inevitable and they were just going along with the flow, the helplessness, the acceptance of their fate... I loved the way Wakana (bless her vocal cords, she must have been breathless after she finished) and Hikaru sang the song, and even though I could hardly hear Keiko, but when I did, my thought was that she also added to the chorus, making it even more melancholic and more fitting.

Hikari no Senritsu

My first Kalafina song. (Don't ask me how I came so late). It was an uplifting song especially with the PV, I loved the dressing, the setting of the song (wonder where they shot it, anyone knows?), I liked the way the song had an uplifting tune, but rather...sad, ... lyrics... and the part where they all sang together, the choruses at the end, i can listen forever... no matter what anyone else says, their voices really gel together to make that special effect.

Kagayaku sora no shijima ni wa

Wakana's and Hikaru's lines in the middle-- "ama soltia mari miltia" part. And Keiko's chorus.

Neverending

Both the tune and the lyrics gelled together very well. Loved Keiko's part, and the lalalalalalala at the end. Kudos to Hikaru for bringing off the verses so well, too.

Destination Unknown

The initial groove is catchy as all hell - THAT BASS - and has the classic Kajiura rock sound - similar to the initial line of Stone Cold I feel, but darker.

This songs arrangement helped me to understand Yuki Kajiura's composition a little and it kind of blew my mind. She uses Hikaru's voice, with it's sharp point (I think a bias to mid/high frequencies?) to cut through the heavier instrumentation. Also, when singing at a loud volume, her voice takes on a different quality - A forceful, gritty, raw sound. This really made me appreciate how specific each girl's part is for her voice. They are written for almost as if they were instruments themselves.

When the double time groove kicks in and Keiko starts harmonizing (Her melody line is really cool), you really feel the force of this piece. The short breakdowns before the chorus sections (if you can them that) are perhaps the pinnacle of this force, where the girls are literally roaring their lines. The way Hikaru sings "naka wo" is brilliant. With so much emphasis on the "k", it's such an expressive word. I can't get enough of that.

Then, of course, that instrumental section is storming. I assume Kyoichi Sato is on drums - He's incredible.

And finally, the live version of this song - Hikaru looks possessed throughout, which is marvelous. xD

I think this song sums up why I like Kalafina. They are a darker, heavier and more mature sounding counterpart to FJ.

Yane no Mukou ni made it to my top 5. Can't stop listening to it since yesterday~

this thread is my most avoided thread since i guess i can't stop writing to explain the beauty of each song... :blood: okaaay let's try...
--these songs aren't ordered by "the most i love, the 2nd most i love, etc", i just write songs that come in my mind--

Kagayaku sora no shijima ni wa
the first song i love from Kalafina :shy: the song made me afraid and i was haunted by this song for several days... then i started love it :XD: thanks for Ciel's sad scene that fit the image of "Kagayaku sora~"

Natsu no Ringo, Storia
i think both the songs has something in common, but idk :XD:
for Natsu no Ringo, i adore its lyric. the translation is just nice and i imagine the song as "childhood's love"

Moonfesta
i love the touch of 'arabian' (?)
and i love to move my body just like what Kala girls did in their PV of Moonfesta.
"Tsuki no festaaa~" gyahahah love it!

Mune no yukue
love the EA live version. can't think anything but "Keikoooooo~ :shy: :dote: "

Eden
love both the EA live version and song recorded version. Hikaru and Wakana have nice and almost equal part, and Keiko makes the song more beautiful. the song's feeling is :dote: for me

Kimi ga hikari ni kaete yuku, fairytale
i love the parts when Keiko and Wakana singing 'questioning' and 'asking', like: "yume ni mita eien da" "tozasareta mama de~" :shy:

Magia, Destination Unknown
can't think anything but "HIKARUUUU!!!!" hahaha, she's adorable... in different way from Wakana and Keiko...

ARIA
i love this because i can hear Maya's voice clearly :shy: (from the live version)
but Wakana's version in nice too, "Wow she can sing like this?!" and it is refreshing

Red Moon
haha, i dunno why love this song, but i never be bored to listen to this song :knife:

magnolia
i love how they sing "magnoliaaaaaa" and it stuck in my head for several days XD
and since i love flowers, automatically i love magnolia :XD:

haru wa kogane no yume no naka
i love when Wakana have her own part, then Hikaru have hers, that's just nice and :dote: this reason is also the reason why i love Natsu no Ringo XD
but why Keiko doesn't have her own part? :uh..:

i have a dream
the song is refreshing and calming, different from other songs that have 'dark' images :XD: and i love the kajiurago part. ooh wait i love all kajiurago part, but this song has nice kajiurago (and Kagayaku Sora~ has too) XD

Ongaku, Love come down, Mata kaze ga tsuyoku natta, Sprinter
these songs sound like " :cheer: Go Keiko! Go Hikaru! Wakana, go go go Wakana! :cheer: "
and for Ongaku, i love the 'ichijou pose' :XD:

Symphonia
this song has Keiko's calm voice... hehehe :XD:

in your eyes
the image of AE live version is staying in my mind... Keiko was so cute :XD:
i love when utahimes singing 'in your eyes~' and point at their eyes

okaaaay.... those are for now. another addition may be added in the future :XD:

i guess i'll be killed by saying this, but i want to say, the "avoided song" in my Kalafina playlist is Snow Falling. honestly i want to hear other opinion about this song...

so far i like Mirai from the kalafina club recording.

i like Credens Justitiam. And mirai is the kalafina version with lycrics :TdT:

My top 5 (the songs I've never skipped on my shuffle)

1. Magnolia
I just really love how Keiko starts and ends this song. Her harmony is really seductive, and brings the mysterious and cruel feeling from this awesome song. Korechan's guitar is also awesome. Not to mention I'm a sucker for this type of song.

2. Yane no Mukou ni
Although I don't really like how Hikaru starts this song, Wakana's part is just really soothing. Keiko's "yume no te o totte, sukoshi dake yukou ka" is really pretty. Her counter-melody parts are also awesome.

3. adore
Like what I've mentioned in magnolia, I'm just a sucker for this type of song.

4. oblivious
For the same reason as adore.

5. Seventh Heaven
Is just one-of-a-kind song. Have all the feelings a song could have.

Extras :

6. Progressive
I've loved this song a lot since the first time I hear it, but to hear it in male-pitch version really blew me away. Hikaru sounds so much "awesomer" in her "guy" voice.

7. destination unknown
This song just grew on me. Really love Hikaru's "jibun no kizu naraba" stanza, although thanks to their stupid choreography, that part in AE live was horrible.

8. Te to Te to Me to Me
For the reasons I've said before.

9. To the beginning
Just really love every Keiko's part :3

10. sprinter

Oblivious - something about this gives such a great aura of mystery and wonder and a bit of supernatural vibe. I really make an indie anime short and I want to use this song for the opening titles!

Ongaku - I'm a sucker for songs with a fast tempo and a good bass and beat. This song defiantly has that.

Magia - As the above reasons plus really sets the mood for the second half of Madoka very well, using it as the ED after episode 3 was a clever move. Connect always felt too out of place after episode 3 but Magia always fit the mood just fine. Two aspects I love about this song, one is the guitar solo and the second is the solo following the guitar (by Kieko?) where much of the bass backs down and the vocal just stands out.

My favorite Kalafina song is definitely Red Moon. It's the first song I heard from them, and it's what made me fall in love with their sheer power to harmonize and deliver a song that feels all-too-powerful without even knowing the lyrics when I watched their live performance. When I actually looked up the lyrics, it gave even more of an impact with how poetic the lyrics were.

At number two stands ARIA. As someone who has only listened to what the radio played at the time, it's something very different, unique yet enchanting. It's the very reason why Hikaru is my favorite Kalafina member with her sheer vocal power and the darkness in the song. It's also my most played Kalafina song on my iPod!

Number three goes to Kimi ga Hikari ni Kaete yuku, the live version of the song. Keiko and Wakana's vocals, while being the complete opposite of each other, complement each other to tears when they sang that song. The lyrics can speak for itself, but it's perhaps the most emotional song I've heard in a long time.

Mirai: I enjoy the light and buoyant mood of this song. Hikaru's voice fits it very nicely. Love the piano (especially when I can hear it better in the instrumental) and Wakana's sustained notes in the background. :dote: :sohappy: Their smiles when they perform it live just makes it even better :sohappy:

Hikari furu: Just love that whole chunk in the middle when the three of them are singing one over another and leading onto each other's lines :shy: :shy: Those big drums really get the climax of the song going :sohappy: Favourite part is from the "shizukana inori ga..." part onwards until Keiko's "mabushii asaaaaaaa" Her long note there is just gorgeous
