Humanity - Chapter V / Thomas Bergersen
h5.png
"Chapter V is an ode to adventure, the unexpected, the drive and passion, taking us on new and exciting journeys in life. New beginnings. Opportunities and magical encounters. It's the musical equivalent of that extra push we sometimes need to find our inner strength and confidence to take a chance."

Not my favorite, but thumbs up for the banger "Memoria", "Reflections of You" and its amazing piano; and the experimental "Xunia" with Punjabi lyrics.

Oh the Corrs were there for me in my early 20s. Their first few albums are incredibly rich musically and include so many hits!

I guess me too. When I tell you I used to be obsessed... Mind you, I don't think I'm any original saying that - there definitely was a bit of TheCorrsmania in Europe between Talk on Corners and Unplugged.

Leave Me Alone and No Good for Me are anthems to this cat.

Edit:
Oh dear, how could I forget about Heaven Knows.
F. Memories flooding in now. Queen of Hollywood. Closer. Forgiven, Not Forgotten. Intimacy. Only When I Sleep.

Wow! You've got the receipts!

I liked "Borrowed Heaven" too! "Closer" was such a beautiful, romantic track (was it used in a movie or something?).

The thing about the Corrs was that their lyrics were quite heartfelt and preformed beautifully by Andrea with her alto-ish voice (she seemed to struggle with high notes later on as she aged but always sang comfortably in a mid-to-lower range).

The sibling harmonies were always on point. They didn't have the biggest solo voices but they had lovely vocal arrangements and the most catchy melodies, singable but not run-of-the-mill.

I LOVED the fact that they leaned on their Irish roots and bore then proudly in their compositions instead of trying to fit into a Brit pop aesthetic to appeal more quickly to the rest of Europe. That always warmed my heart!

One of my favorite songs they performed (especially live) was that traditional Irish jig... "Toss The Feathers"! Oh, I love that song. It really shows the joyful spirit of the Irish, I believe and I took the liberty of feeling vicariously proud of their heritage, even though it wasn't mine.

Their joy in preforming it, and it's unique cadences and expressions, get me hyped every time I hear it (I'm always singing/humming and tapping along). I only listen to it from them as a way to rekindle my enjoyment from time to time, always leading me into a binge - of their music. (I love authentic self-love and high-skill performance of traditional music especially when well-blended with modern instrumentation; part of the reason I'm a fan of WagakkiBand too).

Let's not forget "Give Me A Reason", "Irresistible": that was the video that first made me realize how absolutely beautiful all the sisters were - I mean model/movie star looks. Not so much the brother surprisingly though he was OK. I mean each of the ladies was stunning!

That MV for "Irresistible" was one of their best in my opinion, even though it was a simple concept in one location.

I don't like too too many artists outside of YK and co, but if y'all want some Kajiura-tier rock songs, i highly recommend Guilty Kiss. They're a subunit of Aqours, a Love Live group I don't care for. Guilty Kiss, on the other hand, oooh, their rock songs are very Evanescence-coded like a lot of Kalafina's songs are.

My faves here - Kowareyasuki
https://youtu.be/yW4TfhhtrL8?si=vqdiuci_neH3U46F

Deep Sea Cocoon (very Evanescence-like in the best way possible)
https://youtu.be/HGp-l0eMD0g?si=CIPnCmFqNpdLkb8D

Shooting Star Warrior

BUT one caveat, as amazing as their rock songs are, the rest of their discography is very 90s Jpop inspired instead of the hard rock in the above songs. Still fun though - I particularly love New Romantic Sailors, which is like the most Japanese song ever:

Oh and they (and pretty much all LL performers except Nanjo Yoshino who was the vocalist for FripSide) are terrible at singing live. You think Hikaru is has issues, wait till you hear Japanese idols. If it weren't for the very heavy autotune, their live performances would be unwatchable.

There's this beautiful song nobody seems to care about much:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=Hf6iT4FArjI&si=MaF_CT6uVDpkejeV

It's by female artist Kanon. It's in epic scope and luxuriously produced (sounds like), reminiscent of Celine Dion and certainly one of the best j-pop ballads I've ever listened to.

BUT HERE'S THE THING: almost nobody seems to even know about the song. Very low viewership on YouTube, very little "buzz" online, fairly hard to find... I wonder what happened. A scandal of sorts? Or some other tragedy? I just can't wrap my head around the fact that such a nice piece of music and expensively-made performance has fallen into such obscurity.

She's a good singer. The song is an cool ballad with good string arrangement.
I heard her A5 note. Nice!

I saw what seems like her first album release and the first track is creatively named (for those that know the reference).
