Yuki Kajiura LIVE vol.#21 - 60 Songs (July 26 - August 24, 2025)

I am not sure how to view their dresses just that I know that I loved vol.9 costumes the most. I was not that much a fan of their vol.11 costumes.
YKL 9 has gorgeous dresses. They're not exactly cohesive for a group dress but they're pleasant to look at and at least they have something that ties the look together. To be fair YKLs dresses are really weird because at times they clearly aimed for a group look, the other time they're dressed individually with nothing connecting the look together, and sometimes 3 of them have cohesive look (like they dressed as member of a group) yet the other one has completely different look from the others.
Obsessed I tell ya!
that's how you know i am a real fan because i actually paid attention and remember nearly everything :p

I don't know why you have to complicate things with your elaborate ponderings when every live has a credit roll... lol. Effort for me to check every live but ykl17, ykl20, ykl21 have the same person for "Costume Design & Styling". Edit: I looked at ykl11 YUUKA 2days special and it's the same person there for "Styling & Wardrobe". Aaand the same person again for "Styling" in ykl4 and ykl2 too (no Costume/Wardrobe credit). Kajiura's been consistent with YKL stylings (and the same person) from the start it seems. ;) Dunno about Kalafina. Kalafina had someone else for Consolation and 9+one at the very least ('cause they are on youtube lol).

Anyhow, you have fun discussing this.
i was about to do this lmaoo (checking the credits)
honestly the same person being in charge for YKL checks out because the inconsistency has been around since forever and Kajiura loves familiarity no wonder it's the same staff members and costume and styling are often outsourced. I guess it's only budget getting tighter that this designer/stylist had to make some of the ugliest dresses ever since YKL16. They weren't always bad (some are still great tbh) but I can see where they had to cut corners. I mean part of the reason of her dispute with Spacecraft was staff changes and iirc Kalafina getting a new live director and the live director did great with Kalafina live 2016 and 2017 but I guess Kajiura and Mori were allergic to stage production being good. In line with her idealism of music should be the main focus tbh

Come on... 🙄

Live directors are not plug and play. If Kajiura couldn't see eye-to-eye with the new director and they had conflicts it would be reasonable she wouldn't just capitulate and accept it. Like you said, this conflict was just a part of the reason.

I still think the issue of creative control was a bigger part of it.

Yeah, I thought about it as I typed, but too tired to check the credits.

Consistency Across Events: Fans note that the costumes follow a consistent aesthetic: flowing dresses, layered fabrics, and dramatic colors that match the ethereal tone of Kajiura’s music. This suggests a guiding stylistic vision, even if not attributed to one named designer.

There isn’t a single famous “costume designer” attached to Yuki Kajiura’s lives. Instead, her live staff and stylists coordinate costumes to maintain the signature mystical, gothic, and elegant look that fans associate with her performances.

(AI response to the question)

There's literally ONE and the SAME person listed in every YKL credit under "Styling"/"Styling & Wardrobe" (up until YKL11) or "Costume Design & Styling" (YKL16 & beyond)... They may not have designed everything from scratch but put it together from what they could find I guess but "Costume Design" after SpaceCraft would certainly suggest more effort...

So am I supposed to trust the credits or a random AI "opinion" generated from scouring the net (& probably your question in itself)?

Or are you trying to take AI saying "Fans note that the costumes follow a consistent aesthetic" as some sort of argument in your discussions? I am so confused.

@ritarudandoo , like you and everyone else, is allowed to have their opinion on the general YKL aesthetic &/or individual looks...

PS. And why am I working myself up? lol.

I think i mentioned it alraedy but Joelle's dresses tend to be the worst and I don't know why. I sometimes wonder because she is a bit bigger or if the dresses make her look bigger. It makes me wonder if the artists have a choice of how comfortable they feel showing skin or cuts they prefer (maybe Joelle is self concious of her shape so she hides?) or if there is a unspoken rule that after certain age, you don't show skin anymore.

For the last volume, it made me wonder if, for example, Kaori didn't want to show cleavage but legs were ok, so it ended up looking awkward (but in line with what she was comfortable with).

I do like that they try to keep some sort of theme across the dresses, even if the execution is questionable at times.

Joelle is bigger (shoulders, arms). My favorite dress for her is still Princess Principal with the cinched waist, exposed shoulders and arms, mirroring Keiko's dress in some aspects (also one of my faves for her in that concert).

Kaori doesn't show cleavage usually, but I appreciate how she continued to present herself attractively/youthfully even while pregnant (YKL20), after wearing longer skirts for a while.

I do not know about the dresses from VOl. 1. For Vol.2 i am not that found of them but i think Wakana had the best one, followed by Keiko. Vol. 3s swapped with Keiko then Wakana, vol.4 is clearly Keiko again, followed by Wakana, vol.6 is Wakana, then Kaori, 7 for me is Keiko then Wakana (Kaori would be higher, if her hairstyle did not seem so awful), 8 is clearly Kaori and then Keiko, 9 Kaori and then Wakana, 11 for me is Keiko, then Kaori. I will continue in another Moment with the other ones.

I will continue with the lives from 2015-2024. Vol. 12 are not as artistically as Vol.9 but they still manage to be stunning albeit simple. I have difficulty to determine which one I like the most, but I will go with Kaori for first and Yuriko a close 2nd, for 13 is more Remi, then Yuriko, in 2017 there were no Events with FJ, and 14 is the first time without Wakana, and for this event I will go with Yuriko as the best dressed, followed by Joelle. For vol.15 I like Keiko, followed by Kaori the most, 16 I will go again with Keiko, then Kaori, (its a shame what they gave Joelle, a woman of her beauty did not deserve this), 17 came 3 years before out and from the pics I will say Kaori, although it begins to look rather bland, then I will go with Joelle, but if I can include those who did not seem fix members, I will say Lino Leia looks the best, I am not that fond of 18, so I will make it short, Kaori, then Keiko, vol.19 has one of the worst outfits, but I will go with Yuriko, and then Keiko. 20 is none of the classical formation, but Hikaru, followed by I think rito or Lino (I am not that well with the newer members, since after 2018, I did not followed it so strongly than before), and 21 Kaori, then Joelle. You are free to disagree with me.
