What's your favorite and or least favorite show that Yuki has scored?

Pandora Hearts was awesome It was also the first Kajiura-composed show I watched, so it has high nostalgia value to me. The story was an excellent twist on Alice in Wonderland, though sadly, the anime ended prematurely with an abrupt and less-than-satisfying ending. The character interactions, on the other hand, were amazing - the cast had such good chemistry and I could tell that everyone working on the show enjoyed it a damn whole lot (Sharon for best girl).

If I had to pick a favorite, Kara no Kyoukai would be it - no questions asked. Nasu as a writer is praised by fans for Fate/Stay Night's story which really isn't anywhere near the level of what the fans make it out to be - it's basically a glorified RPG - there isn't any "shounen" deconstruction and the debate of "saving everyone vs saving one person" which is its base theme is actually a weak foundation to what otherwise is a good action-oriented series. But I digress. His work on Kara no Kyoukai was above and beyond my expectations. It starts off slow, and rewatching it a second time gives you a much better understanding of the story and characters and what the series is trying to accomplish - but I think that's part of Kara no Kyoukai's ingenuity when intentionally releasing the movies in a non-chronological order. You want to watch it a second time to actually know what the heck just happened - and I loved it, and still love it. Beneath the mystery, magecraft, thriller, suspense, blood, and action, it's a romance. A convoluted one, mind you, but one of my favorites in all of anime. It's the combination of all the elements of the anime as a whole that really leave me wowed, though. There's not a single element, be it music, action, voice acting, character development, and story, that doesn't have what I think is the passion, dedication and love the staff members have for this series. It's incredibly polished, and a great deal of attention was given to every detail, which is something I can't say for most anime, if at all. The only thing dragging down Kara no Kyoukai, however, is its pacing, which may deter some viewers who just want action (not what this series is primarily about, by the way, even though the action sequences are awesome), and the prerequisite knowledge of the Nasuverse that the anime expects viewers to have before watching - otherwise, viewers will be very, very lost in the foundation of how magecraft and Shiki's ability works.

Madoka Magica and Fate/Zero are close seconds, with Fate/Zero slightly edging out Madoka because F/Z, to me at least, has a higher rewatch value. Madoka doesn't suffer from F/Z's pacing issues, but Kyuubei is probably one of my most hated anime characters which makes me give the runner up title to F/Z. Also because fight scenes, Saber's Excalibur and Rider awesomeness.

The worst would be SAO, by far. I think everyone here has already explained why it's such a terrible show, so I won't be adding much. But even Kajiura fans could tell that she really doesn't seem like she even cares for this show in the slightest.

^I would definitely agree about SAO. I remember when I saw "梶浦由記" listed after "音楽" in the opening credits, I was extremely surprised. Even though it introduced one of my favorite sopranos of all time (REMI) as a Kajiura vocalist, the music itself was less than stellar (compared to her other works). As for the show itself, I don't really care for it that much either. I absolutely hated the Fairy Dance arc, felt like the Phantom Bullet arc was way too long, and thought Excalibur was unnecessary. The Aincrad & Mother's Rosario arcs were fine.

Btw, one would think your username would say you like SAO... :ayashii:

The thing is, I did. The first episode was what made me like for the series. And for a few episodes, that continued. But, over time, I just got more and more disappointed with the show as the writing went downhill and after finishing it, it left a bad taste in my mouth for how awful the writing was. The problem wasn;t the adaptation, but the source material. The author has no idea how an MMORPG works, and the romance in SAO has got to be one the worst I've seen in anime as of late - he's got a girlfriend, a canon partner, yet his harem keeps building and building. Yui was SAO's saving grace, but even that wasn't enough to keep me from disliking the show. Asuna's a damsel in distress, Kirito is Gary Stu and Kajiura's BGM, what should have helped redeem the anime, fell flat in execution.

And worse still, I can't change my username. :(

Funny cause I actually loved episodes 1-12 of SAO and didn't bother watching the rest. I also loved the 5th and 6th KnK movies. I remember watching Elemental Gelade when I was younger and enjoyed it for a while. Favorite was definitely Madoka though...
The worst hands down were El Cazador and MADLAX.

I've seen the first 6 episodes of SAO and it was one of the worst things I have ever seen.

That's a misquote. You mean Believe :ayashii:.

And Believe still has more structural integrity than SAO.

Oh this is easy.

Kara no Kyoukai

Especially 7>3>1

SAO

Will trade time spent on this for rewatching KNK for the upteenth time.

Heck. I know what I'm going to watch tmr.

I'll add KnK to my "favorites" side. I'm currently watching through the series (6/7 watched), and it's really good.

I also add Le Portrait de la Petite Cossette to the "worst" side (not just because the title shows they have no understanding of French). I'll sum up my entire experience with the show in these few words: "What the hell is going on?"

I suppose I have two strong favorites: One is .hack//SIGN, I love that show, it really showed me the kind of maturity anime can have after seeing mostly kids fare being so limited to what I could see on TV at the time. The music is wonderful and I love the OST but I do admit the OST did have to grow on me a bit but it was my first real exposure so hey.

MADLAX is another favorite of mine and personally my favorite of Kajiura's anime work that I've seen. The music is incredibly solid and incredibly well synced to the anime. Many memorable themes and compositions stick out and it feels very emotionally charged. Both .hack and Madlax are solid but Madlax kind of edges it out only in the fact its compositions from screen to CD are super consistent while .hack has a great amount of variants in the series.

My least favorites in terms of just not caring for the music would be KnK, I am really the minority there among people but the OST was kind of a bore to me. It felt more like a collection of short sounds strung together. I haven't actually seen any of the anime so I can't comment there. I hated SAO in terms of the anime and the shockingly underwhelming OST despite the strong lead in with Swordland which made me very excited.

My favorite is Madoka, the OST is so perfect too, and it's actually what got me back into Kajiura. Least favorite is SAO, I hate it so much. I hate harem animes in general but this one ticks all the wrong boxes.

Hmm, this is a hard one. I did really really love Tsubasa, I guess because of my Clamp love. I know that the show did not get a lot of love, but I did love it. (Westkana, I guess I liked the pace because it focused more on the characters that way. They did a lot of background stuff, not as much as the manga, but still. The soundtrack is awesome too!) Kara no Kyoukai was awesome as well, and Hanako (if we can say non anime shows), because of the amazing music and I enjoyed the story too.

Worst: Hmm, I dislike SAO too, but I found some of it enjoyable. I am working my way through the novels, even though there are a lot of them. I guess the main problem is the director. If they did not have everything so fast, but then again people would complain about it being slow. I do agree about the whole every woman liking the main character for no reason. (Though I liked shows like Tenchi Muyo! and Love Hina) So that and .Hack. It was just soooo slow (heh I am complaining about it now) and the only thing interesting were the battles but I hardly remember them. I have not seen Liminality either, but it looks kind of weird. I do really enjoy the music though.

I would agree, but I feel like it took a priority over the plot. I'll probably need to read the manga and watch Tokyo Revelations at some point :XD:

^Yes! The manga really goes into more detail, like with Fai's background (which FYI is very depressing, at least I think so) and I own the single volumes of it still. Tokyo Revelations was interesting. (That one song! Ugh, I wish she would release it in another WFS. They use a lot of the same music but just take out vocals and instruments and things, like they did in SAO sometimes.)

I've seen the first 6 episodes of SAO and it was one of the worst things I have ever seen.
...And that's the best part of the show. I remember I actually liked SAO at that point, but it went through one of the most rapid downward spirals ever, culminating in me just completely giving up on it forever by episode 16 at which point everything that drew me to the show (except Kajiura's music and the animation I guess) was long gone.

...So yeah. Least favorite is SAO. It's actually among my least favorite anime ever.
Favorite is Madoka. Which is also my favorite anime ever.

Severely off topic but I'll never understand why ya'll hate Believe so much. Oh well.
Btw, I am bummed that Fate/Zero was so boring but the OST was killer. I loved it so much.

Due to how the music coexists with the visuals in KnK I would definitely recommend giving it a try at the very least, if you haven't already. Even if you don't care for WORDS, I would say it should still be very effective on the audio/visuals front alone.
