East Of Eden / IKIZAMA (Music Video)

OK, this song started as a YouTube advert (random recommendation, ok maybe not so random since I follow the bassist, MINA. formerly of the now defunct Girlfriend) and the vocalist immediately reminded me of Hikaru - the vocal range and the visual vibe, and the fact that it's a rock song too! Something Hikaru could totally rock, whether in MV or on stage.

Edit: This is the kind of coherence and artist identity (at least visually) I wanted for Hikaru: be one thing and "be it" strongly. Wakana is much stronger in that sense having the whole classic anisong/Ghibli ballad diva vibe from the start.

@CloisteredFlame Loving your analyses of singers!

I wonder what your take on Tenge Fyuki is, if you're familiar with her. She's a metal singer who's really upped the ante across the releases by アンラッキー・モルフェウス. My particular favorite is the Live album "Live 2017". I think she's technically come a very long way as a singer by this point. This performance might be one of my absolute j-rock/j-metal favorites ever. I've not listened to the later live releases. She seems slightly underrated to me but I could be wrong about this impression.

Do you mind just sending me the YouTube link directly? It would help me to get exactly the performance you're wanting to show.

I know Fuki of Unlucky Morpheus though...

I was kinda hoping you'd have something more general to say about Fuki's development as a singer, so I've nothing more specific to illustrate. I see this general trend, or at least change, from early releases to Live 2017 where she's moving up quite a lot technique-wise. To the point where she's maybe my favorite Japanese female rock singer :)

Oh her vocal style is unique. She's definitely a powerhouse vocalist and her band's style was my first exposure to J-Metal (after Babymetal to be honest, all exposure being from YouTube recommendations).

I keep wondering about her vocal influences - I would definitely say there's some enka/kobushi or other traditional inflections or tendencies involved.

With my favorite singers, I am always curious to know their training/education and favorite artists/vocalists growing up.

Oh I haven’t listened to her long enough to have an informed opinion about her growth/changes over time.

I would need to find her early material (was she always a rock/metal singer?) and maybe a documentary on her career.

Fan-made historical content, like the YouTube channel Ohrenje does for BAND-MAID, are always very helpful in this regard.
