Space Battleship Yamato

Space Battleship Andromeda

Did you know that the only surviving Japanese battleship of WWII was Battleship Nagato? She was at all the major naval fronts like Leyte Gulf and Pearl Harbour, as well as only being destroyed at the American BAKER bomb tests in 1946 as opposed to an actual naval battle.

She was also the lead battleship of her class though the Nagato class only had like two battleships in it; Nagato and Mutsu - and was the first battleship in the world to mount 16 inch guns.

I think the Battleship Yamato is more famous, though.

/pointless trivia time

That's generally the reason why I don't like yaoi and yuri, I simply don't like things that come out of nowhere

Doesn't that depend on the quality of the fic or original media you're reading, though? :confu: I mean, like I said, I ship things depending on character traits and character interaction, so if two characters interect adorably together then I'll ship it.

Unless you're reading 100% smut, or something, a yuri or yaoi fic can be just as cute as a het one, and a het fic can be crappy and have random romance just as much as a yaoi or yuri can. Whether the characters are one gender or another doesn't necessarily make it any more likely to be spontaneous romance, so...

I don't think it makes sense to go "i don't like all gay pairings no matter what" because whether the pairing is het or not doesn't affect the pairing dynamics at all. Maybe what you meant was "i hate crappy romance" and I misunderstood, but then... Why did you specify that you only disliked yaoi and yuri?

In fact, from my experience, it's the het ones that're more stupid. It seems people take for granted that there will definitely be sexual attraction between two people just because they're of a different gender, so end up going "omg i like u" "omg me 2" and then, whaheeey! Established pairing. Kind of a "wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am" thing. Although, since most of any canon is het, I think that gives it a lot more basis to call it stupid since there's more of it.

tl;dr Yaoi, yuri and het have equal amounts of stupid and awesome and you shouldn't generalize just because "no homo".

Oh well. :ayashii: In the end, I'm just confused as to how you generalize such a broad spectrum. I don't understand it just as much as I don't understand people who say "i hate all video games because some of them are shit", or "i hate all women because some of them are bitches".

What I meant was more like:
Many, and I really mean it, many yaoi/yuri pairings come out of people's minds out of nowhere. It is clearly friendship and they force every single interaction as "a proof of true love". Like I said, I prefer established relationships, so I can follow its development, rather than just create things in my mind (but I do follow some non-canon pairings).
I wouldn't even say "no homo", since most yaoi/yuri pairings are just fetish. If it was actually about a couple and not about how cute two (generally) androgynous characters look sexy together, I would probably be interested. Really not the case with many "couples" I've come across.

@ Ponti, but it seems Yamato is the biggest Battleship in Japan's fleet, or maybe in the whole WWII, since Yamato is designed to be outnumbered and fight several enemy ships simultaneously.

but too bad if shes in the rear most of the time. i heard the bigest mistake in the battle of midway which was the turning point of US VS japan war was because Japan did not put Yamato at the front line.

FYI, Space Battleship Yamato is a cool anime where the story tells about the Yamato who have been re-build from its wreckage and converted into Space Battleship as earth defense fleet.

@ZoaKaizer Oh, no, I know that. I just had a little military fangirl moment there and decided to share some trivia about a battleship, ahah! I can get like that about fighter pilots of WWII, too, so take care not to mention them!

:ohoho:

@KP-X Maybe they just think it's cute. As long as they're not forcing it to be "omg so canon", then it's hardly a problem to let people's imaginations run with the characters, especially if the characters are just what got you into the original media in the first place. That's what fanfiction is all about, after all; so you can revisit the characters and get attached to them all over and extend the canon unofficially.

Besides, who's to say your interpretation as "friends" is any more valid than "lol they are totally hiding their secret feelings"? I mean, unless it's explicitly stated by the creator that it's 100% friendship or 100% secret gays, it's not fair to go around and say "no MY interpretation is better than YOUR interpretation" when they're just that; interpretations. And even then, if the creator outright states it, it's fanfiction. For the fans to explore and realize their imagination for likeminded individuals. idk, I've never really seen fandom as a place to go around policing other people's OTPs and saying "excuse me you cannot ship this, this is ridiculous, it is not allowed".

Hell, the "yaoi/yuri is just a fetish" argument doesn't make sense either, because I've read way too many of each for me to think that everyone writes yaoi and yuri just to fap. Just like not every het writer writes het to fap, not every yaoi writer writes to fap, and not every yuri writer writes to fap. If anything, het is the more porn-oriented genre, since I'm pretty sure the hentai section is absolutely filled with het pairings.

Searching for episodes of Seikon no Qwaser made me knowledgable about this, sadly enough. But Seikon no Qwaser's anime made me realize that there was a manga, and Seikon no Qwaser's manga has so much literary and artistic and symbolic merit that I don't even-- But this isn't the time to fangirl about Seikon no Qwaser.

It's just way too broad of a generalization for anyone to say "i hate everything yaoi/yuri", so I can't comprehend it.

^ Ahah, sure. I'm always confused when people make huge generalizations based on faulty logic, so I had to bring it up to clarify.

^ I don't. I guess I'm too logical to understand any conviction that can't be supported with evidence. :spotlight:

I do get your point too, as you've said before, there are different tastes. There are also yuri/yaoi love teams which are all fan made.I mean, only speculations from fans.

Alot creator, you are amazing. Please write a book that I can buy.

Yeah... I guess I got kinda confused when KP-X made statements like "many yaoi/yuri pairings come out of people's minds", "it is clearly friendship" and "most yaoi/yuri pairings are just fetish"... That sounds like they were trying to make it as a legitimate argument, when there's absolutely nothing to support anything they've said.

Not that I blame them, though! It isn't exactly hard to get conclusive evidence to support their claim - qualitative as well as quantitative, since they made an assumption on motivation and intention - but it's way too much effort to go out and actually collect that conclusive evidence, especially if it's something you don't like, and so are reluctant to actually involve yourself with.

Since I never make definite claims without evidence, I sorta expected KP-X to do the same, especially with such a blanket assumption which only has one thing in common between all fics: "yes homo".

Then again, if someone ignores any fiction that contains yaoi or yuri, then it's only natural they wouldn't know much about it, and can't back up anything they say with any evidence.

:rain:

And I admit that I got kinda defensive when they said that it's all fetishizing the characters, 'cause... well... I ship both yaoi and yuri as well as het, so I felt the need to explain myself, per se.

:ayashii:

Huh? "Teams"? How do you mean? :confu: You mean scanlators and translators who scan/translate specifically one orientation?

First I thought you meant the genres themselves, but lol. :...:
