New Chat Complaint Thread (Mark 2)

https://chat.canta-per-me.net ! It's different! its's weird! But slightly less weird then the last time, I hope.

Eventually I'm hoping to move from http://www.phpfreechat.net/ 1.x to http://candy-chat.github.io/candy/ - but probably not this weekend. This weekend is a test (January 24th through 26th, approximately) for general comment.

Since there have been relatively few bug reports, I'm going to be leaving Candy Chat up at least until the end of the month.

There are currently no plans to switch back to the old chat.

Any bug reports would be more helpful if they included a http://www.whatsmybrowser.org/ link, so I have some idea how to reproduce your issues.

As Candy Chat is built on top of jQuery, not all browsers will be supported. Again, a http://www.whatsmybrowser.org/ link will help me figure out what can and can't be done.

If bugs fail to make it to this thread, or sent to me via a private conversation, they won't be fixed. If bugs don't show up, I'll assume the new chat is stable enough to stay in place after the 26th. Vague feelings of discontent do not count as bugs. Not working exactly like the old chat does not count as bugs. Missing functionality does count as bugs.

If you get a gray screen & can not log in, please Like the post of the first person reporting it, rather than make another reply. I don't expect that will happen much, but it always could.

I await your feedback.

EDIT: Please do not provide personal information beyond a http://www.whatsmybrowser.org/ link. Screenshots are ok.

Bugs reported so far:
  • Document Title not being updated with unread message count (2 votes)
  • Notifications not playing on Firefox (flash loading, but also getting no sound - see if I can get away from the flash dependancy) got rid of flash, at least.
  • Darken info messages for better visibility, including /me messages - done.
  • Opera Mini not working (jQuery support questionable) Can't do it, added browser test
  • Nicknames sometimes not changeable
  • No way to set status (away)
  • No messages when person leaves (candy chat) seems to be fixed
  • iPad doesn't work
  • Highlighting not catching changed nicknames
Fixes may require the chat be force-refreshed (F5 or shift+F5) to be visible.

OK, so still no notification in the browser tab of the number of lines of new text?

Is this a problem for others?

[Edit - others are reporting this problem e.g.:

hm would be nice if number of new messages would show up in the tab

Not getting sound notifications for PMs on Firefox (getting them on Chrome/IE though).

Not sure how to change to an away / idling nickname when logged in both on the browser and via pidgin.

This seems to be a more widespread problem:

There is now *no* message in the browser window that says:

<nickname John Doe> has quit

even with "Display Status Messages" enabled.

so the only indication of *when* someone quit is by watching all the time and seeing when their name disappears from the list on the right. If one looks at the list of messages, one only sees what people have typed and when they enter/change nicknames.

Edit - pidgin *does* give both: <nickname xyz> left the room / entered room.

Thanks also for restoring the entering/leaving messages and getting the unread lines of text count appearing in the top tab.

Noticed a problem that if you are trying to read the backscroll, and someone else enters a new line of text, you immediately get scrolled back down to that new line of text, whether you want to or not.

[edit] so that's what one has the auto-scroll control for?

Supposedly audio notifications should be working on all browsers now.

Yes, they work now :touched: Thank you, Sudrien

I think I mentioned this in the old thread, but when joining a private room, one's nickname changes back to kajiuranxxxx (whichever kajiuran ID they first entered chat with) in the private room only.

Chat highlights a line if someone or if I myself type out my original kajiuran name (e.g. kajiuran4141), but it doesn't highlight lines that have my real nickname mentioned after I change to it, even though it's supposed to (e.g. '9999' or 'Kyuu-chan').

Idk what this black thing at the end of a comment is, but it appeared in chat when certain kaomojis are used: http://i.imgur.com/S7UDqjC.png
Could sb give me an explanation? :confu:
Which browser is this? And, could I get the offending characters in a reply?

Added to the bug list.

Just restarted the chat server a few times - FINALLY got some of the configuration as strict as I wanted it.
