MIKI Masuda

CloisteredFlame

HA! I live in her CLOSET!
I am such a fan of this lady's vocals especially being a Japanese singer. The combination of influences she has is just epic and so is her cool/detached but still expressive personality.

The Bilibili link has 3 consecutive tracks from her from different genres which showcase her vocals in a pop/soul context, a waltzy, fantasy-folk style, and a funky style song. Versatility!

Miki and KenKen 😭
I gotta say, the bassist looks a lot like At-chan (as Revo would call him), Sound/Linked Horizon bassist, who I've really become a fan of in Revo's music. He's so reliable and musical.

But your post says Jun Hasegawa is the bassist, so I'm not sure.

You know, there are surprisingly many things you forget. I spent a solid two hours practicing, trying to recall how I used to hit those high notes, thinking through the basics of vocalization, but I wasn’t satisfied, my voice got hoarse, and on the way home, I was mulling over what to do… then I couldn’t hold back and started practicing again.

And then, out of nowhere, I listened to an old hit song by a certain artist, and suddenly it clicked. I jumped right back into practice, and it all came together in a flash. No matter how much I overthink all these complicated techniques, in the end, isn’t my way of hitting high notes just about sheer willpower? (lol) Not that I’ve gotten worse or anything like that—it’s just about willpower, right?

I’m calling it “willpower” in my own words, but I’m sure there’s some unconscious body technique working behind the scenes that I don’t even notice. Still, if I want to get that sound I’m after, the best thing is to listen to songs with a similar vibe. Alright, let’s charge straight to the live show on pure willpower! Me!

it's kinda funny because the other day i had a bit of a situation I couldn't use my head voice, it's like i had forgotten how to access it and made multiple attempts without success. Then the other day i put music in the kitchen while cooking while listening to kalafina, and I was able to suddenly use positions i couldn't in the other room.

Oh, you're also a singer??? I'm not sure I knew that. Nice!

Very interesting about how listening to the music of a singer you admire unlocks your mental block to achieve (or reengage with) a previously challenging skill.

It's the origin of all our singing - imitation. 🚀

Translated from Japanese
I've wrapped up work for the year. But! For the January 17 live show, I have no time off. From here on, I'll be focusing intensely on vocal practice. I haven't done nearly enough vocal practice at all! It's always like this before live gigs—I do solo rehearsals every day. This is a holdover from my middle and high school days, when I'd sing through a whole album every single day. Thanks to that, I think I've built up the stamina to sing for long stretches

Over the past 9 years or so, my depressive state has been progressing, and I've been almost bedridden. Over the course of the past year, I've been preparing for the live performance at a snail's pace, and I'm grateful to the members who have kept up with my own pace. Last month, I underwent detailed blood tests and checks on the condition of my vocal cords, and it turned out that I'm perfectly healthy. I reconfirmed that the incredible daily fatigue and poor physical condition are indeed issues stemming from mental illness. For this live performance, I've been consciously trying not to lose my motivation, and although I've had occasional downtimes, I've still been able to experience, bit by bit, that I can push just a little further.

This year, I think I can do a bit more... and to keep my heart from giving out, I want to increase the opportunities to sing in front of people, even if it's in a small way. That will become my goal, and since I at least have a sense of responsibility (lol), I believe it will lead to a path where I don't lose to myself. The live on January 17th is with the band, and for me, it's a venue with a fairly large capacity. The other day, when I checked the ticket sales, it had reached the highest number among all my previous lives. Thank you very much.

Of course, it's still far from sold out, but taking this as a starting point, I want to charge through my 50s. Once again, this year as well, I look forward to your kind support.
